- Chapter 4: Snow White's Homemade Cooking.
Snow White’s Homemade Cooking.
“Unexpected Living Alone”
The apartment had a one-bedroom layout, and no matter how you looked at it, Himeno seemed to be living alone.
For a student living alone, the living room was relatively spacious but quite simple, with only essential items such as a TV, table, and sofa.
I haven’t seen the bedroom, so I don’t know, but it’s likely to be neatly organized.
And it was within a ten-minute walk from Takashi’s house.
“Please don’t stare too much.”
Blushing with embarrassment, Himeno lightly grabbed the sleeve of Takashi’s uniform, as if she didn’t want to be seen too much.
Complimenting Himeno, who could be likened to Snow White, declared the most beautiful in the world by a magic mirror in a fairy tale, had an overwhelmingly powerful charm, but Takashi had just been rejected by his childhood friend, so he didn’t misunderstand.
Although he thought she was cute.
“Um… I’ll change, so please wait on the sofa.”
Himeno, who must have suddenly felt embarrassed after entering the house, hurriedly headed towards the bedroom.
As Takashi sat on the sofa and took out his smartphone for entertainment, he noticed that there was a notification.
“I can’t believe she’s at my house…”
The message was from a childhood friend, and it read:
“I haven’t come home yet, but what do you want to do about dinner?”
Despite being ignored on the first day, the personality of the childhood friend, who came to Takashi’s house to cook dinner, could be described as quite airheaded.
Even in a close relationship with a childhood friend, one wouldn’t usually come to someone’s house on the first day after being confessed to and rejected.
However, the childhood friend was not coming to the house to harass or bother him. Undoubtedly, she was genuinely thinking about nutrition and wanted to cook.
Although Takashi liked that aspect of her, for now, it was a bit of an inconvenience.
He hoped she would give him some space, especially on the first day.
“I’m not in the mood to eat together today, so I’ll eat outside.”
Having sent this message, Takashi pocketed his smartphone.
Feeling no inclination to play with his phone, Takashi decided to space out for a while.
“Sorry to keep you waiting…”
After sitting on the sofa for about ten minutes, Himeno, who had changed into roomwear, returned to the living room.
Wearing a long navy-blue sleeveless one-piece dress over a white blouse, Himeno blushed with embarrassment.
It was probably her first time bringing someone of the opposite sex into her home, so it was understandable that she felt embarrassed.
“It, it suits you.”
Although Takashi complimented Himeno’s everyday outfit resembling Snow White, he himself couldn’t get a good look at her face.
He had some immunity because she was his cute childhood friend, but complimenting a childhood friend and complimenting Himeno felt different.
Perhaps he had patted her head on the rooftop because he had just been rejected and was feeling lonely, seeking human warmth.
Now that he was a bit calmer, patting her head again would be quite nerve-wracking.
Unable to look at her face due to embarrassment, he noticed the cute white socks with frills that Himeno was wearing.
“Uh… thank you very much.”
Feeling even more embarrassed by the compliment, Himeno blushed from her hair down to her ears, visible through the gaps.
They had known each other, but today was the first time they had talked to each other, so they were conscious of it and couldn’t communicate smoothly.
Himeno was probably feeling the same way.
“Um, I’ll make some food.”
“Y-yeah. Please.”
Perhaps unable to withstand the tension, Himeno headed towards the kitchen.
“Looks delicious.”
In less than an hour since Himeno started cooking, dishes were arranged on the table.
The main dish was a Japanese-style simmered kinmedai, and the appetizing aroma wafting through the room alone sparked their appetites.
“Is simmering something that can be done in a short time?”
Takashi asked Himeno, who had let down her long hair, which was usually tied up in a ponytail, during the cooking process.
“Yes. It can be done in less than thirty minutes.”
For Takashi, who had always thought that simmering required a long time of stewing in a pot, it was as if scales fell from his eyes.
He usually didn’t pay attention to the cooking time when his childhood friend was cooking, so he didn’t know.
“Let’s eat while it’s still warm.”
“Yeah.”
Both of them said, “Itadakimasu,” and Takashi immediately took his chopsticks to the simmered kinmedai.
The fish meat easily fell apart, and he picked up the broken pieces with his chopsticks and brought them to his mouth.
“Delicious.”
While it had a different seasoning compared to what his childhood friend usually made, the simmered kinmedai was well-flavored and delicious.
“I’m glad.”
As Himeno had mentioned that it was her first time treating someone of the opposite sex to her cooking, she blushed and looked at him shyly.
Even though she had been cooking for a long time, she seemed slightly anxious about whether the taste was to his liking.
The incredibly delicious dish made his chopsticks move swiftly, and he enjoyed both the simmered kinmedai as a side dish and the white rice.
He also ate a salad seasoned with Japanese-style dressing along the way, and Takashi’s chopsticks showed no signs of stopping.
The ginger served with the simmered kinmedai added a nice texture and flavor to the meal.
Himeno’s homemade dishes were more delicious than those at many restaurants, and as he finished the meal, he couldn’t help but think he wanted to eat it again.
