Chapter 25: The Unfading Wound
“How was Roa-sama doing? If there’s anything wrong with his health, I will go to him immediately.”
“He seems to be physically okay, but to me, it looked like Roa was forcing himself. It seems we succeeded in making him lose his memory, but his body doesn’t seem to obey, as if it remembers the mistakes we made in the past.”
“…Indeed. I had a faint feeling about that too.”
“Even though he calls me ‘oneechan’, I, who loves Roa-kun so much, can tell. I know he’s forcing himself to call me ‘onee-chan.'”
Their faces clouded over in unison.
Although they had restrained themselves in front of Roa, his recent behavior made them feel rejected, plunging their hearts into darkness.
No matter how much Roa tries to forget, they realized that what they did to him will never truly disappear. They understood that they couldn’t look away from this fact. They had no intention of running away; they were prepared to accept it and had vowed to dedicate their entire lives to Roa. Yet, the realization that Roa was rejecting them deep down was the most unbearable thing for them.
“Roa-sama, have I chosen the wrong path? But if I hadn’t done this, Roa-sama would have carried those painful memories for life, and we wouldn’t have been able to lure out the fool who hurt you so. I’m tormented by my own powerlessness. Ah, Roa-sama, could you ever forgive me?”
Aria, with tears streaming down her face, fell to her knees in a gesture of repentance. Even her tears seemed clouded.
“I wonder, can I truly be Roa-kun’s sister? How can someone like me, who makes Roa-kun struggle so much, deserve to be his sister? But kind-hearted Roa-kun still calls me ‘onee-chan,’ even if it’s forced. I have to live up to his expectations. I’m sorry, Roa-kun. I will become someone worthy of being your sister. So, please don’t hate me. Don’t reject me. Let me stay by your side.”
Lilia sat down abruptly on the floor, covered her face with her hands, and wept, her tears too appearing murky.
“Roa, I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. I’m your childhood friend, yet all I do is trouble you. I’m sorry for being like this. But I can’t leave you, Roa. If I leave you, I won’t be myself anymore. Please forgive me. Let me stay by your side.”
Mia looked upwards, tears flowing as she spoke.
The suppressed sobs of the three echoed and faded away in the room.
However, the scars of the past inflicted on Roa—beyond mere violence and harsh words—did not disappear.
