When the Villain Joined the Knights to Avoid Doom Flags, but Somehow the Heroines Started Approaching Him - Chapter 17: The Senior
Chapter 17: The Senior
The royal capital’s knights are usually very busy.
They often travel from place to place on missions, rarely returning to their base in the capital.
As a result, opportunities to train together, sweat it out as a team, or enjoy casual meals with everyone are few and far between.
“The commander already left.”
“He left!?”
After completing their first mission, which had turned into a rescue operation, and enduring an exhausting trek back, Yulis and the others finally returned to the knights’ headquarters.
Only to be greeted with this news right away.
“He left even though he still had unfinished tasks!? He just ditched everything—like showing appreciation for his subordinates or dealing with complaints! What are we, some reusable napkins he can just toss aside!?”
“Now, now, calm down. He didn’t just ‘leave’; he went straight to another mission. The commander had already stretched his packed schedule thin to supervise you all, so this was expected.”
The voice came from a woman standing in front of them.
She had long, light blue hair and carried a long sword, her presence exuding maturity and confidence.
She was the first to greet them upon their return to the headquarters.
“My name is Celia Alstar. From now on, I’ll be your direct superior and, for the first time in your life, your trainer. Well, nice to meet you.”
—She was not a heroine.
There was no sign of her in any of the familiar characters from the scenario.
Perhaps that was why, for a moment, tears welled up in Yulis’s eyes.
“Thank you very much…!”
“…Did something difficult happen during the exam?”
“Please, don’t worry about it.”
“Master’s tear ducts are as loose as a housewife’s purse.”
Lately, any girl Yulis encountered seemed to be a heroine.
It was refreshing to meet someone who didn’t fit that mold, and it made him genuinely happy—but the others clearly didn’t understand why.
Celia tilted her head in curiosity but ultimately turned and started walking ahead.
“Well, you’re all probably tired. Let’s head to the dormitory, and I’ll explain a few things along the way.”
Following Celia’s lead, Yulis and the others began walking.
“Knights generally live in the dormitory so they can be ready to respond to emergencies at any time. That said, exceptions are made for those with families or special circumstances, allowing them to live outside.”
“What counts as special circumstances?”
“Most of the knights here are nobles. Many still have responsibilities tied to their noble status. For example, the commander is the head of a count’s household, so he’s allowed to live outside the dormitory to manage those duties.”
Celia chuckled wryly. “Though most knights don’t stay here long due to missions anyway.”
“…So if I bear Master’s child, we can escape this confusing birdcage together.”
“Teacher! There’s a beautiful girl next to me muttering something terrifying!”
“Incidentally, there are a few knights here who’ve married within the order.”
“Really!?”
“Why are you encouraging this!?”
It seemed that girls naturally sided with other girls.
Yulis was startled by how easily Celia heightened the dangerous potential of the situation.
“I’ll show you around later, but unless you’re directly summoned by the commander or vice commander, most training is done independently.”
“Really? I had heard that knights train together at set times every day…”
“Fufu, you’ve done your homework, Lieselotte. What you said is true for most knight orders. Group training is important for fostering teamwork. However, in the royal capital, it’s almost impossible to gather everyone because of how busy we are.”
The knights in the capital were all elites.
Only those with exceptional skills were chosen, so their missions tended to be more demanding and frequent.
With such packed schedules, regular group training simply wasn’t feasible.
“You’ll receive missions soon as well. At first, the three of you will likely work together often. And, of course, I’ll be tagging along to keep an eye on you.”
So I’ve ended up in a workplace as overbearing as a black company, huh…
Yulis thought with a far-off look as he listened to Celia’s explanation.
But then—
“Hey, that’s him.”
“Yeah, Yulis Blanche, the one the commander mentioned.”
“Why is someone like him in the prestigious royal capital knights? What could the commander possibly be thinking?”
Voices came from somewhere nearby.
When Yulis glanced in their direction, he noticed a few knights casting sharp, disdainful looks his way.
“Fufu, you really are famous, aren’t you?”
“If those stares were adoring ones filled with enthusiasm, I’d be thrilled… but no such luck.”
The gazes directed at him weren’t those of fans but ones that perfectly matched his bad reputation.
At least his life wasn’t in danger, so he could tolerate it for now. But no matter where he went, the reactions were always the same, and it was getting exhausting.
Meanwhile—
“Master, may I go take care of them?”
“Nope, nope! Sit! Stay! I’ll give you a treat later, so behave yourself!”
“The fact that they don’t recognize Yulis’s charm just shows how far the royal capital’s knights have fallen.”
“Stop making such sweeping statements! What if someone hears you, Miss ‘Class Representative’!?”
The two girls, furious at seeing their beloved person insulted, couldn’t let it slide.
They were blurting out things that would get them scolded by anyone who overheard.
“…By the way, Miss Celia, aren’t you going to join their side? You know about me, right?”
“I’ve heard plenty about you. Even as a minor noble, news travels. But I’m the type who only trusts what I’ve seen with my own eyes. So, whether I take their side or not depends on what you show me from now on.”
Celia smiled gently as she spoke.
Her impression as a stranger felt refreshing to Yulis—different from the usual negativity he encountered. It stirred something in his chest, making him genuinely happy, but then—
“By the way, there’s enough space in the dorm for separate rooms for men and women. It’s a three-person room setup, but do you want to split it?”
“We’re fine together,” the two girls replied in unison.
“Separate them by gender! Why is common sense and morality completely ignored here!?”
“Oh, I forgot to mention… I have a bit of a mischievous side.”
“Change! I take back what I thought earlier about ‘thank goodness she’s my superior’—get me someone else! I’ll even take cold glares if it means having a boss with a shred of ethics and common sense!”
Still, decisions once made are rarely overturned.
Yulis’s protests were ignored, and Celia, clearly enjoying herself, walked on ahead toward the dormitory with a playful smile on her face.
