- Chapter 59- The concept of relationship
“Dreams you ask…well, it was nothing but the creation of my insecurities, Emiko-san. Conscious or not, I always felt that someday, you would leave me…and those thoughts just created some unreal scenarios in my head. ”
Before yesterday, Haruki wouldn’t have been able to say such things to Emiko with such fluency. The fact that he dreaded being abandoned by the girl showcased how he started liking Emiko as well. And the way, a subtle blush adorned her cheeks, signified that it wasn’t only Haruki who realized this.
A brief silence ensued between the two as the only sound of running water and the clatter of plates resonated around the kitchen.
Being torn between the feeling of elation and doubt, Emiko took some time before she asked again,
“…still, can you tell me what actually you see that made you so distraught?”
Under normal circumstances, Emiko would have never pressed a matter that previously hurt her Haru-kun so much. The recollection of his lifeless eyes still haunted her—however, a part of her mind kept on hinting this case to be something more than what it seemed at face value.
This situation with Haruki’s dream rang a dangerous bell in her head—something that made Emiko more terrified than the event that transpired yesterday.
Haruki remained silent a bit. He took a glance at Emiko and without asking, he knew she was extremely distressed about something. And delaying this conversation felt like it would only keep her on edge.
In the end, he sighed a bit and revealed, “In those dreams, we weren’t like this…you weren’t like this, how you generally remain. You felt a little distant and uncaring. While your passion for modeling seemed the same, your interest in me or anything except for your ambition looked minimal.”
*CLANG*
Suddenly, the plate Emiko was holding, dropped to the ground and broke into pieces. The shards of the plate left some cuts on Emiko’s ankle—much to Haruki’s panic.
“Emiko-san?! What are you doing?” His heightened voice didn’t wake her up from her shock, which urged Haruki to first transport her away from the place.
He put down the plate he was holding and after washing his hands, he carefully picked Emiko in his arms. If any glass shard had stuck in her skin, then it would have hurt to walk.
“Ah…” Certainly, being lifted off her feet, Emiko was broken out of her stupor before she instantly hugged Haruki’s neck to maintain her balance.
“Seriously, how clumsy can you be?” The frown that drew his brows closer, signified that Haruki was concerned for her.
That’s right, he was worried for her. He wasn’t resenting her. He was…still with her.
‘Calm down, Emiko…Haru-kun is still with you. Nothing has changed…he haven’t left you even after seeing those ‘dreams’…yes, he is here…I can feel him…’ Calming herself down as much as she could, Emiko dipped her face in his chest, and enshrouded herself with his scent.
Her dropping heart rate began to stabilize and the numbness across her body was finally subdued. This painful feeling was familiar to her. She has suffered countless nights and days while feeling this same sensation all across her body.
However, this time she didn’t need her antidepressant. She didn’t need to see a psychiatrist or depend on some exercise to calm her chaotic mind. Emiko has her Haruki beside her.
His presence alone was able to heal her.
Meanwhile, being entirely unaware of her inner turmoil, Haruki rested Emiko on the bed before he went toward the cabinet and pulled out the medical box.
There didn’t seem to be any glass pierced inside her skin so he slowly began to apply ointment after cleaning the blood with antiseptic liquid and cotton.
In the meantime, Emiko was able to collect herself. Despite being eager to know how much those ‘dreams’ he had seen and whether Emiko’s suspicion was spot-on, she chose to not dwell on the matter any longer.
Her reasons remained many, but the strongest one was her belief in strengthening the bond between them. She would overflow his life with her presence and love so that any of those dreams would no longer influence him.
“Haru-kun, do you have any plan tomorrow?”
Hearing her query, Haruki raised his brows before asking, “No…why?”
Haruki’s college was closed for some days for the preparation of the third-semester exams. In the meantime, Haruki was looking forward to spending his time with his sister and brother-in-law and of course, Emiko.
However, Emiko had different plans,
“Let’s go to Kyoto tomorrow.”
“Ehhh?”

In the evening, Haruki visited his sister’s house. Although Emiko wanted to come, her assistant arrived, and took her away to the company.
Emiko promised Haruki that she would have dinner with them before she finally departed.
“Nee-san, are you upset about the news?” As both of them stood inside the kitchen—where Haruki was helping his sister in slicing and dicing vegetables—he asked in an uncertain tone.
Until now they haven’t talked about anything in that regard, which made Haruki, a little anxious.
Rena glanced at her brother with a soft smile, before she asked, “Before that, tell me, what was your reaction to the news?”
Haruki sighed, “Well, I was kinda upset.”
“Well, that’s a natural reaction, Haruki.” Rena remained silent a bit before she continued while stirring the soup, “However, please don’t ever suspect Emi-chan. Since, once the seed of doubt is planted in your relationship, you both will never be the same.”
Haruki’s hands paused before he turned to look at his sister, “You mean…suspecting your partner would entirely ruin things?”
“It’s exactly as you heard, Haru. Once you start doubting your partner, every single day you will find a reason to distrust her. And truth be told, that kind of relationship tends to break easily. So please, whatever the world says, whatever others say, don’t get influenced by that, and maintain your trust in Emiko.”
Cupping his cheeks, Rena concluded, “After all, a relationship can only last long if both partners trust each other more than anyone, right?”
It wasn’t like Haruki didn’t understand or wouldn’t implicate what his sister suggested, however, he would realize the true essence of her words after a considerable period…
