- Chapter 54- Emiko\'s boyfriend...
“I can’t believe we won our first team debate… it feels like I am still having the same dream as last night.” Walking beside Haruki and Ayumi was the blond gyaru, Kasumi.
As she spoke, the debate competition where Haruki and his team faced another team ended with a resounding victory. Haruki’s concluding points left the opposing side speechless, and Kasumi’s enthusiasm prevented any chance of a comeback. With support from other team members, the debate concluded favorably.
“It was all thanks to Haruki-kun’s preparation and hard work that we didn’t end up in a tie but won the contest.” The one who spoke with a warm smile, extending her lips, was the bespectacled beauty, Ayumi.
One could easily sense how highly she holds Haruki in her eyes, and the way her eyes always drift toward him vividly shows her affection toward him.
It would be a lie to say that Haruki hadn’t noticed it yet. He might be dense when it comes to matters involving romance, but after meeting Emiko, he has become more aware of people’s behavior around him.
Ayumi’s simple gestures have begun to stir many rumors across the campus, and because of that, sooner than later, Haruki would need to have a serious conversation with her.
“No benefit in keeping your expectations high, Ayumi-chan. After all, Haruki-kun is already dating someone, right?” Hearing Kasumi’s words, Ayumi’s expression fell a little. About Haruki, he didn’t like to flaunt his relationship status, so he just remained silent.
“Those three have gone to the cafeteria, right?” Hearing Haruki changing the topic, Kasumi also didn’t say anything and just simply nodded.
To submit the final draft, Haruki and the other two had to wait a little, so the other three went ahead to have lunch.
It was then when suddenly, the shout of a girl nearby garnered everyone’s attention,
“Kyah! Emiko-sama’s boyfriend is revealed!”
“Huh?! For real?!”
“Yes, yes! See, they are in her private cabin as well…haa, he is so handsome~”
“I have seen this person before somewhere…”
Haruki’s heart began beating faster upon hearing the content of their surprise. And not only them, but other people also began checking their phones to see the news.
Naturally, the avid fan of Harada Emiko—Kasumi also took out her phone to check who the person was, which made Haruki even more nervous.
‘Emiko-san already publicized it…’ Although he gave her permission, Haruki didn’t think she would publish their picture without telling him.
“Haru!” Suddenly, Haruki turned to look at the source of the voice, only to find his best friend Hayato dashing from that direction.
The concern over his face was justifiable, but Haruki had already prepared himself for this day. He even expected some people to already recognize that the person in the picture was none other than their fellow student.
‘Do I look different in the picture?’ Haruki wondered since even Kasumi didn’t give him any reaction, apart from her widened eyes and the way her fingers were zooming in on the picture.
“Haru…have you seen it?” Hayato finally reached Haruki’s side, asking between his rasped breathing.
Haruki was now growing a little tense himself as he took the phone from Hayato’s hand (his own phone was discharged, that’s why Haruki hadn’t checked it yet).
Hayato seemed slightly reluctant to give him the phone, but witnessing Haruki’s confused gaze, he found it unfair to keep Haruki in the dark for long.
Haruki took the phone in his hand before he typed the password, and the website showing the breaking news flashed, with the picture of two individuals in the middle of the article.
The beautiful woman in the picture with the most captivating eyes was undoubtedly Emiko…however, the person being regarded as her boyfriend was not Haruki.
Haruki’s brows grew close as he tried recalling that face. Soon he remembered that this was the same person whose picture Emiko’s mother showed, to describe an actual perfect man for Emiko.
However, Hayato misunderstood the reason for Haruki’s frown as he rested his hand over his friend’s shoulder before consoling him,
“It must be fake news…after all, we both know the truth.” Hayato might still have insecurities regarding this abrupt relationship between Emiko and Haruki, but from what he observed that night, she at least seemed serious in her commitment toward Haruki.
Haruki returned the phone after nodding in assent.
“Well…see you tomorrow.”
“Haruki…” Hayato wanted to stop his friend, but couldn’t. Even Hayato didn’t know what he could say to comfort his friend in this situation.
Seeing Haruki’s distancing back, Hayato inwardly muttered,
“I hope Emiko isn’t the type of person I initially thought her to be…”

As Haruki crossed the campus, he heard various people talking about the same topic, he wanted to hear the least.
The same thing was reaching his ears again and again,
‘They are complimenting each other so much~’
‘Even though it’s fake, I hope this rumor just helps them become a couple.’
‘Damn, I didn’t know such a gentleman could exist. See how he is opening the door for Emiko-sama~’
Even I open the door for her—was what Haruki inwardly thought but he soon shook his head.
He wasn’t immature to think that the news was true. He knew Emiko enough to conclude that this news was fake. For her to even talk with a straight face with a man other than Haruki seemed an impossible task.
However, if something was bothering him the most, it was the fact that Emiko invited that man inside her cabin, despite knowing that her mother had selected the same person as Emiko’s partner.
‘Could it be…that Emiko-san was forced?’ It seemed highly unlikely since the expression Emiko wore in those pictures was anything but strained.
She looked…happy.
“Haru-kun…” Suddenly, Haruki was broken out of his daze when he felt someone holding him by his shoulders.
Lifting his gaze, he was met by the same pair of eyes which always make him dazed.
However, at the moment, Haruki didn’t get lost in her eyes. Instead, he held Emiko’s hand and led her to the car nearest to them.
“Let’s talk.”
Emiko, despite being startled, followed his lead and entered the car behind Haruki.
There was a feeling that told her, something was about to change between them.
