- Chapter 50- Video call?
“Here.” Handing the cup of tea to his wife, the head of the Harada family, Harada Kouske, sat beside the lady who had her usual stern face on display.
The old man had grey hair, black glasses, and a lean physique, which was quite admirable for his age. It was thanks to the numerous exercising equipment his daughter has bought for him, and also his regular walking habits which allows Kouske to be a lively person.
…unlike the lady in front of him.
“You still are grumpy about your visit?” It was given that Kouske would be aware of what happened back in Tokyo when his wife decided to show up at their daughter’s place…and ended up kidnapping her lover.
Kouske was unaware of what his wife was about to do or he wouldn’t have let her go at all. But well once Miyako sets her mind for something, it is nearly impossible for anyone to stop her.
“I am disappointed at how recklessly Emiko has become after she began associating with that college student. She has lost her mind.”
It was evident that Miyako was quite dissatisfied with their daughter’s decision, but Kouske was not in this with her.
However, siding with Emiko would be nothing less than asking for an early morning one-sided verbal assault.
He wanted to comfort his wife for the time being until he didn’t go and see himself, what Emiko was up to.
Holding Miyako’s hand softly, he told her, “Don’t worry, Miya. I won’t let her do anything that could hurt our child in the future. After all, we both want the best for her, right?”
Miyako let out a heavy sigh and with a soft smile, she leaned her head on her husband’s shoulder.
Kouske was relieved to see that his wife was a little better now…however, he hid the very core of the matter from her, fearing that it may make her feel betrayed.
Kouske did say that he would do something for Emiko’s betterment, but he never said anything about removing that college boy named Haruki from her life.
‘I am sorry Miyako, but I cannot make decisions based on someone’s background….’

“What’s your plan today?” While the pair ate breakfast, Haruki broke the silence and asked her casually.
The breakfast preparation was a kind of rollercoaster ride with Haruki demanding a hug and then Emiko’s collapsing…it was chaotic. In the end, Haruki pitied the girl and walked back to the room to get freshened up.
Emiko used those precious minutes to calm herself down and finish cooking pancakes with almond honey and black coffee.
She really liked having extra hard coffee in the morning with something sweet on the side and knowing Haruki’s taste, she knew he would like it as well.
“I have some work at home after I finish cleaning up. What about Haru-kun?”
Despite how much she resisted, Haruki always ended up helping out by cleaning the dishes and vacuuming the house, so chores would be done in no time. Thanks to that, Emiko would be able to finish her pending work.
Her secretary has been pushed to the edge because the work was getting piled up more and more, because of Emiko’s week-long vacation. But now, the vacation ends, and sadly, she needs to focus on work a bit.
“I was planning to bring some fruits and supplements for Nee-san…but it seems they are going out today. So I think I will stay at home and finish my assignment?”
It was a lie. Haruki never asked whether his Nee-san was going out or not, since he had no plans of leaving the apartment. Although, he yesterday planned to meet his sister, today…he just wanted to be near Emiko.
However, saying it explicitly would be creepy so he chose to make it a little roundabout.
“Perfect! I-I mean…it’s great that we both have work yet we still could be together.”
…something Haruki couldn’t say, Emiko was able to voice it out without reservations.
Indeed a person to be admired.

[Haruki’s POV:]
It was nearly twelve on the clock when I and Emiko-san began doing our respective work in the bedroom.
Emiko-san said that she would get the extra room arranged as a study room and make a small library in there, but until then, we only have the bedroom.
Truth be told, I had no problem with the setup since I have experience studying in some extreme situations. Like when I used to deliver newspapers, I finished my homework on the train sometimes when I got late. Once when I joined a restaurant as a helper, I sometimes finished my work at the kitchen counter due to the lack of time.
So yeah…this bed really was a better and more comfortable option.
I was finishing my part of the speech I needed to say in the group discussion in a few days. Every Management school focuses on the overall development of a student, in which, vocal abilities are a major element.
I had plans to discuss the upcoming debate with my friends today…but well, I didn’t want to leave the house so I had plans on connecting with them using FaceTime.
The time to contact them was nearing, so I was about to get up and leave the room, when suddenly Emiko-san asked me, “Do you need anything, Haru-kun?”
I would die because of guilt, if I asked you to bring me something after that much housework you did—was what I genuinely thought, but in front of her, I just shook my head.
“I have a video call with my friends about the upcoming debate competition…so it surely would disturb you.” Even though I didn’t have any knowledge about what she was doing with those many documents sprawled over the table, I could guess that it must be important to gain such utmost focus from Emiko-san.
I was thinking of changing my location to the dining space since the light was good in that area, but…
“Oh please stay right here, Haru-kun. I would love to hear your conversation with your friends.”
…somehow, that seductive smile seemed a little too dangerous in this situation.
