- Chapter 47- Mood swing?
The rest of the dinner went fine. Despite the slight reservation between Haruki and Emiko after what happened back in the bedroom, the gathering went smoothly.
Around nine, Hayato returned to his home since he lived far away, and around ten, Emiko and Haruki also decided to return home.
Well, it was still too sudden for Rena to accept that Haruki was now cohabitating with his girlfriend, but she didn’t bring any needless objections.
During the dinner and also earlier when she mentioned Yuna, Rena was continuously observing Emiko. Her reaction, her consideration, and the various emotions she showcased tonight were majorly related to Haruki
As a sister Rena only wanted her brother to be with someone who genuinely cared about him and Emiko undoubtedly was the ideal partner Rena could have asked for her brother.
“Please visit us, often. While Ma-kun would be at work, I will get bored at home.” Rena requested the two as they stood near the entrance.
“I will try my best, Rena-san.” Emiko politely responded and she meant it.
To know about Haruki’s past when she wasn’t with him or wasn’t able to keep a record of him could only be obtained through this lady. Well, Emiko might not be too comfortable around Haruki’s sister as of now, but with time, who knows?
“Not ‘Rena-san’. Call me, Nee-san, Emi-chan~” Hearing Rena’s request, Emiko felt slightly embarrassed since Rena was only two years older than her, but not like every relationship is determined based on age.
“Well then…N-Nee-san. See you soon.” Hearing her bashful tone, Haruki smiled while a muffled chuckle arrived from Rena’s side.
Not so long after the two of them finally left the place together and boarded the car waiting for them.
Entering the car there was a black box already waiting for them which Emiko took nonchalantly and pulled out a brand new one from inside.
Seeing her phone, Haruki was reminded of the small incident that occurred back then. It wasn’t like he forgot about it, rather kept it in a corner of his mind since he wanted to take things carefully regarding this matter.
Haruki already sensed her unnatural behavior some of the time and given that, the topic of his childhood friend surely would disturb her.
He was contemplating what he should say to break the ice when suddenly her neutral voice reached up to him,
“Haru-kun…are you mad at me? I mean acting childish back then?” Whether because she was facing the other side or she was feeling low at the moment(which was completely in contrast to how she seemed some moments ago), her voice indicated that she wasn’t her usual self.
Regardless of the reasons, Haruki felt his heart getting heavy in concern as he replied, “Although it was a surprise, I am not offended, Emiko-san. Please don’t feel bad about it. ”
He still wasn’t very good at consoling people since he himself was a younger child of the family. However, speaking what was on his mind seemed to be the best route to tread.
“You have always been kind to me, Haru-kun…yet I couldn’t even control myself and react in such a rude way just because I heard that you were close to another woman in the past.”
Now…Haruki was a little confused. Was she really apologizing or complaining here?
“I should have expected that Haru-kun must have female friends, given your attractive looks and kind nature. However, when I heard that you even promised about marriage and all… I wasn’t able to hold myself. ”
Her voice was now certainly fiercer as she kept her head low and balled her first.
She was…crying as well.
Haruki was broken out of his daze seeing the droplet of tear flowing down her cheek, as he instantly neared the girl
Taking her hand in his, Haruki asked her, “Are you upset that I never told you about Yuna-chan, or is it because I spent my childhood with her?”
Even if it sounded ridiculous, Haruki got the gist that she was bitter about the very fact that he was connected with Yuna in the past.
Although he had no control over it, nor did he regret being friends with her, Haruki could the very least, try to calm Emiko down.
“Everything…even the fact that you are addressing her so fondly makes me feel…uncomfortable. Please don’t leave me for someone else Haru-kun! ” And with that, she jumped on him, with her face pressed against his chest.
Haruki panicked, but he secured the girl in his arms. Thankfully the car had already come to a halt near their apartment or the driver would have a hard time keeping the vehicle in control.
All of a sudden, Haruki’s gaze landed on the front. The driver…or to say Emiko’s secretary Kurihara Naomi pointing a tab screen at him.
Haruki squinted and read the words written on the screen,
[Periods-> Mood swings-> Please tolerate.]
Haruki raises his brows, at how simple and understandable those words were.
While it was true that Emiko became jealous pretty soon, today she seemed a little too emotional.
Haruki didn’t have much experience dealing with a girl who was going through her periods, but still, he had no idea what kind of troubles these few days would bring.
Suddenly, his arms tightened around her shoulder, like he was trying to provide her the assurance that would help her get comfortable.
“If it’s like that..then I won’t call her in such a way. And also, Emiko-san, please don’t worry about that promise since it was nothing but a child’s play. ”
Patting her back, Haruki tried comforting her, and thankfully whether because of his words or the warmth in his arms suited her quite well, Emiko soon fell asleep.
“You handled it quite well. I am surprised. ” The almost whispering sound of Naomi broke Haruki out of his daze before he smiled at her awkwardly.
“I am not very good at it…but I think it worked out somehow.”
Seriously, today was the first time he saw Emiko this much out of character but somehow she seemed so adorable when she was behaving childishly that Haruki secretly wanted to see that side once again.
Well, of course, he wasn’t going to ask for it…
“Haruki-kun…” Hearing her voice turning severe, Haruki again focused on the lady in front,
“…I know it’s not my place to say it, but please don’t leave her alone. Emiko might be quirky at times, but trust me, I have never seen her as passionate about anything as she is about you. So again, I request you to please look over her.”
Haruki was surprised seeing the same lady who was shouting at him during their first meeting, to bow her head and request so earnestly.
However, it wasn’t the time to dwell on that.
Caging Emiko completely in his arms, Haruki responded in a determined tone,
“Don’t worry. Regardless of the situation, I will always be by her side.”
