- Chapter 46- Official meeting~3!
“Yuna-chan? Was she Haru-kun’s friend? I never heard anything from him.”
Normally, when a beautiful girl smiles at you, anyone would naturally smile as well…however, gazing at Emiko’s current smile, Haruki couldn’t muster up to smile at all.
Her lips were arched but her eyes weren’t smiling at all. It was evident that she was just pretending to be casual about the topic.
Haruki gulped as he walked into the room, under the unwavering gaze of Emiko.
“You don’t know? Yuna-chan was Haru’s best friend, to the point that it felt cruel separating these two.”
Rena verbalized her remembrance of that time when Haruki had a person he never wanted to get away from and also the girl, whom Rena considered her sister in the past.
“Is that so…” Because of her daze, the oldest one in the room, missed seeing, how the smile on Emiko’s lips began to break and her eyes now, thinly parted.
Haruki stood near the bed, unsure what he should do in this situation. Denying his Nee-san might be counterproductive since his sister had enough evidence to prove her words.
And agreeing with her seemed like a landmine, on which, Haruki didn’t want to step on.
“Yes…and I tell you, they even took a vow to marry each other when they grow up.” Rena giggled when she said that…but she didn’t realize what a great impact it left on the other two.
Emiko’s eyes immediately shot open, with a sense of betrayal and grief overwhelming her emerald orbs.
Haruki panicked, but before explaining anything to Emiko, he rebuked his sister,
“I never said anything like that, Nee-san! It was Yu-chan babbling nonsense all the time—”
*BAM*
Both Haruki and Rena were startled when suddenly something crashed into the wall and fell on the ground.
Turning their gaze, they found a phone lying on the ground with its screen cracked because of the ferocity with which it was thrown.
“Ah, it slipped…”
Emiko nonchalantly got up from the bed and walked toward the door, which was almost five meters away from the bed, before she picked up her phone.
She remained turned toward the other way for a few seconds before gingerly turning her head and addressing Rena, “I will…start preparing the dessert.”
And with an awkward smile, she left the room.
“Haruki….did I say something wrong?” Rena wasn’t an idiot to not understand how Emiko’s mood swung just now, because of something that Rena said.
Haruki sighed before he took a seat beside his sister and held her hand warmly,
“Nee-san…please don’t dislike Emiko-san for this. She is really caring and kind…but it’s just, she is kinda too attached to me. How should I say this…umm…” Seeing her brother struggling, Rena giggled, much to Haruki’s surprise.
“Nee-san?”
“Don’t worry about my perception of Emi-chan, my little brother. I could now clearly see why you fell for her so easily.” Rena squeezed Haruki’s cheeks as she spoke in a doting tone.
Haruki didn’t understand her words, and thus he could only tilt his head and wait for her to continue.
However, Rena didn’t say anything after that and tried getting up from the bed, only for Haruki to help her up and lead her to the living space.
…he really was a novice at understanding a woman.

There was no dining table in the house and everyone except Emiko was quite used to eating on the floor with a foldable table in the center.
Masato was confused about what to do with the seating arrangement and where to place the food when his savior arrived from the bedroom.
“Masato-san, I have no issue sitting with you all, so please don’t stress over it.” Emiko gave a soft smile as she took the plates from the older one’s hand and with the help of Hayato, placed them over the table.
Masato warmly smiled at the girl, who despite her status, was quite down-to-earth. These were some of the qualities, which made him relief about her being Haruki’s partner.
Unlike in the room, Emiko seemed her usual self around others. Even when Rena got out with her brother, Emiko was conversing with her normally like before. No pretense, just her natural self.
Well, if there was any striking difference in her behavior then it was her ignorance toward a certain someone.
“Did you piss her off, or something?” Hayato, who was sitting beside Haruki, asked in a whisper while the other three chatted.
Haruki sighed, as he placed food randomly in his bowl, “Seems so…”
He knew that there was something particular that made her agitated like this, but Haruki couldn’t remember what it was.
‘I guess I need to-‘ Haruki’s line of thoughts suddenly broke when a hand gripped his own, which was holding the chopstick and was about to feed him his first bite.
Haruki turned his head and found Emiko has held his hand rigidly while everyone turned completely silent, at her sudden movement.
“E-Emiko-san?” Haruki was also quite baffled at her sudden reaction.
“You were about to eat olives Haru-kun…” Emiko’s concern could be easily discerned from her tone as she stated the reason for her panic.
Rena and Masato widened their eyes as they saw the piece of olive stuck in his chopstick along with the rice, which made them realize how big of a blunder they were about to let happen.
Basically, Haruki is allergic to olives and gets rashes all over his body. It’s mild when eating food made in olive oil, but the fruit was quite severe for him.
Haruki slowly let his chopstick down, while Rena put away the dish which had olives.
“Seriously, I specifically wrote in order, to not put olives, yet…” Masato grumbled, already planning to give a bad review to the restaurant.
“You should have checked yourself, Ma-kun.” Rena reprimanded her husband which the man silently accepted since it was his fault as well.
While the two went back and forth, Haruki’s eyes never left Emiko’s.
He stared at her with a look of apology and hopefulness filled in them…and for a second, he saw her gaze flickering. But soon, she steeled her heart and gave him a glare, before continuing eating.
Haruki sighed at that, as he also resumed eating food. This time, a little careful of what he picked.
Meanwhile, Hayato, who was watching the show of the two pairs, one verbally bickering and the other wordlessly, felt extremely out of place.
‘I should have chosen another day to meet Rena-nee…’
Biting on the meat, the single dog wept in a corner.
