- Chapter 39- Confrontation
There was no doubt about it. Haruki wasn’t liked by Emiko’s mother much…or more like, she despised him.
An hour or so ago, he was walking down the street after meeting his sister when someone pulled over and told Haruki to walk inside the car. They said that Emiko had called.
Naturally, Haruki didn’t believe them initially, but then, he received a call from the elder Harada herself, telling Haruki to go with them.
Haruki had no other option than to follow the men, who led him to this cafe.
After waiting for an hour, the woman who resembled Emiko a lot, appeared in front of Haruki, with a grumpy face adorning her expression all the time.
No smile, no greeting and the first thing she said was,
“It’s the first time we are meeting…Hayashi Haruki. And I hope it will be the last as well.”
Soon the waiter arrived at their table and put the cup down before dashing away.
Haruki kept on looking at the lady in slight surprise and a dark feeling weighing him down as well,
“W-What do you mean, Harada-san?” Haruki couldn’t help asking since from what he understood, Miyako was not here to meet him, but rather to warn him.
In response, just took a sip of her beverage before frowning in displeasure.
“Ah, it’s quite mismatched.” Haruki’s frown remained as he waited for the woman to speak, not about the coffee but about the matter at hand.
After the woman put the cup back on the table, she looked at him with her chin resting over her entangled fingers, as she said, “You cannot remain in Emiko’s life, is that what I mean.”
Haruki’s breath hitched in his throat as he looked at her serious visage and how severely she stated those words that clearly suggested his separation from Emiko.
Until now, he feared that Emiko might dump him one day, but he was proven wrong. Then came the world, that what if the world gets to know about his existence in her life, then they might need to detach. However, Emiko also negated such a scenario like it was nothing to be concerned about in the first place.
However, now…the person standing between them was Emiko’s mother. The only person whom even Emiko couldn’t go against.
Haruki wasn’t able to say anything in retaliation before the woman continued, “I have already looked for a perfect match for her. See this…” She slid her phone in Haruki’s direction, which made his eyes fall on the screen instinctively.
The screen displayed a handsome blond man standing on a stage, delivering a speech with a charming visage and confidence. He was quite tall and seemed rich and elegant. Someone who can truly be called the prince charming that every young girl desires.
“He is Shimazu Kouske, the heir of BlakeN group of companies and one of the directors. He has received his management degree from Harvard and has been supporting his father’s business for two years now. He earns in seven digits and has quite a widespread influence. He not only would help Emiko in managing her company, but also he definitely is quite compatible with my daughter.”
As the woman finished her words, she took her phone back yet Haruki’s face never lifted. His shoulders were dropped, as he wordlessly sat there.
He wasn’t just being told what kind of a man Emiko deserved but also letting him know, how useless of a guy Haruki was. A complete waste through and through.
Miyako examined his expression, his reaction and she was satisfied with it. Now that the intimidation was done, she needed to strike the last nail and get done with the boy.
“I know it must be difficult for you to support your family, now that you are not with Emiko…so here.”
Throwing a black debit card she had prepared for Haruki just yesterday, she continued, “You can spend up to three million a month and get a bonus of five million per year for the rest of your life. I guess, this is way more than what a college student requires, but I don’t want to take any chan-”
“Why are you behaving like I have already given up on my Emiko?”
Miyako’s brows twitched hearing the last two words of his statement.
For one, she doesn’t like being interrupted and second, she doesn’t like when people talk more than they should.
However, before she could say anything, the boy lifted his cold gaze that held no emotions whatsoever, and spoke in an equally chilly voice,
“You think just because you found a better, well-settled man than me, would he be compatible with Emiko? Is marriage in your eyes, just matchmaking, Harada-san?”
His voice was monotonous like he was just a machine, voicing the input with what it was provided with. However, both of them knew, that Haruki was trying his best to not let his anger surface and say something irreversible here.
Miyako’s frown deepened before she snarled, “But it’s definitely better than having an unemployed student like you being her partner. ”
“Unemployed you say, were you herself teaching students when you still were in college? And you are judging me based on my current situation…even that guy you showed me, did he become a businessman in just one day?”
Haruki stated without holding back which made the older lady, now fuming in anger.
Her fist clenched, and her teeth ground against each other as she retaliated,
“You think someone like you, who has been leeching my daughter since the first day is worthy of her? Someone who just got connected to her, out of nowhere…you think you have any qualifications or ever would be worthy to stand beside her? Do you think, Emiko would ever be able to show your face in the media proudly?”
By now her voice has grown louder, sending chills to the people standing nearby. However, the person to whom these words were directed, seemed unfazed.
Whatever she said, it wasn’t like Haruki hadn’t thought about it before, however, he didn’t need Emiko’s mother to tell him this. The matter she stated, was something Haruki and Emiko have to decide.
Haruki was about to reply to her, when suddenly someone rushed inside the store…a very familiar person to both of them.
“Haru-kun!?”

I am thinking of creating a romance tier on Patreon where I would post every chapter of my SOL romance, up to date. Even the locked ones.
What you guys think?
