When My Younger Brother Stole My Girlfriend, I Began Living Together with My Beautiful Childhood Friend Almost As If We Were Married - Chapter 38
Episode 38: Big Sister Goes Rampage
While Fuyuka-san took the luggage for the car into her room, Reina and I sat in the living room. Reina looked slightly exasperated, holding her head in her hands.
“Really sorry, Hayato. Big sister always does these sudden and unpredictable things.”
“It’s okay. Besides, we’ve gotten used to it by now.”
“But still, wouldn’t it have been normal to at least give a heads-up on moving day?”
Well, I did think about that a little. Even though I didn’t know what kind of luggage there was, if there were large items, we’d need to clear the hallway to get them into the room. Doing things suddenly like this would inevitably cause some disruption to the smooth operation of things. If Fuyuka-san or the movers said it was fine, then there was nothing more we could say about it. Plus, considering how diligently Reina usually cleans, there probably wouldn’t be anything too big in the way.
As I comforted Reina, who let out a sigh, the doorbell rang again.
“Hello! I’m the white cat who is moving in!”
Both Reina and I glanced at the clock simultaneously. The clock was about to strike noon. Sure, it was technically lunchtime, but I thought it would be much later. Reina let out a sigh so big I thought she might have expelled all the air from her lungs and tried to calm herself down again.
“Shall we go help?”
“Yeah, I guess so.”
We got up and headed for the entrance. Fuyuka-san, who had already come downstairs, was checking the packed boxes.
“I’ll help you, big sister.”
“Oh, that would be great! Could you please take these boxes to the front of the room? I’ll handle setting up the contents.”
With that said, I grabbed the bottom of the box. But when I tried to lift it, it was so heavy that I couldn’t lift it. It would be impossible to carry it alone, especially with stairs.
Reina quickly took the heavier boxes and went ahead with one of the movers. The other movers carried relatively lighter boxes.
“I’ll carry this side.”
“Thank you.”
Fuyuka-san, who had finished checking, took the opposite side. Together, we finally managed to lift it and proceeded cautiously with slow steps.
“This is heavy.”
“Yeah, it’s packed with work tools and stuff. I know it’s tough, but hang in there a little longer.”
“I see. Fuyuka-san, what kind of work do you do?”
“I’m a freelance designer or illustrator. I get quite a few orders.”
“I see. And you’ve been successful in investments too?”
“Yeah. So, I have plenty of time and money. Leave the support for your lovey-dovey life to big sis!”
She said confidently, patting her chest, but as she let go with one hand, the weight increased, and she almost dropped the box. Hastily bracing herself, big sister quickly supported the box again with her hand.
I couldn’t help but feel that she might be missing the crucial point at times, realizing it within this short period.
“Sorry about that.”
“Please be careful now.”
With a somewhat dejected expression, Fuyuka-san laughed and exchanged glances with the mover as they placed the box in front of the room. Our boxes were the last items, and Fuyuka-san went downstairs to see off the movers. We heard the sound of the truck departing, and Fuyuka-san returned to the front of the room.
“Thank you both! Feeling hungry, aren’t you?”
“Yeah, let’s think about lunch.”
“If you’d like, shall we go eat out? It’s on me.”
As she spun the car keys around her finger, Fuyuka-san wore a broad smile.
“By the way, wouldn’t it be nice to go out and have some fun too?”
“Big sister. I had a feeling, but did you buy that Mercedes Benz recently?”
“Oh, did you notice?”
“The car I saw the other day looked a bit different. So, you want to show off the ride comfort, don’t you?”
“That’s a bit different, Reina. I’m just trying to do something helpful for my cute little sister and her boyfriend.”
“And the truth?”
“Half of it is wanting to show off.”
She proudly tapped her chest, but the burden increased as she let go with one hand, and she almost dropped the box. Laughing at the thought of wanting to show off at least a little, I internally remarked. Reina also chuckled briefly, shrugged her shoulders, and shook her head.
“Let’s just go for lunch. I have work starting in the afternoon.”
“Oh, right. I have a part-time job today too.”
“That’s a shame. Shall we just go for lunch then?”
Following Fuyuka-san’s light footsteps down the stairs, Reina and I followed suit. After confirming that the door was securely locked, we got into the Mercedes Benz for the first time in our lives. It had a refreshing aroma of air freshener. And, although it might sound weird when put into words with my mediocre vocabulary, it also had the smell of luxurious leather. Thinking how amazing the Mercedes Benz was with my limited vocabulary, Fuyuka-san, who had taken the driver’s seat, suddenly remembered something and clapped her hands. Taking an envelope-like object from the passenger seat, she handed one to each of us.
“What’s this, big sister?”
“I applied for a family credit card, but they said sisters are a no-go. So, I went ahead and got a new one from somewhere else!”
“What!?”
“What are you doing, this person…?”
“If you guys want anything, I’ll pay for it, so feel free to buy!”
“We’ll keep this sealed.”
“Why!?”
Even if you ask why, it’s probably because. I’ll follow Reina’s lead and keep it in my wallet, but I’ll try not to use it as much as possible. Fuyuka-san, who had just shown her eccentricities at full throttle. She truly was an extraordinary person.
