Episode 31: Going To School Early In The Morning

Perhaps due to oversleeping yesterday because of poor health, I woke up early today.

Normally, I wake up at six, finish changing, and toast bread for breakfast.

As I put walnut bread in the oven and browsed the news on the net until it was done, Reina also woke up early.

“Good morning, Hayato. You’re up early today.”

“I couldn’t sleep.”

“Do you have classes from the first period?”

“Yeah. Reina, do you have classes from the second period?”

“That’s right. But I’m going from the first period too. Shall we go together?”

To such an enticing suggestion, I decided to take her up on it.

Since the train to make it to the first period is crowded, it’s convenient to go by car.

After thanking her and pouring milk into two glasses for both of us, I put the walnut bread on a plate when it finished baking, and in its place, I put the frozen pizza for Reina to eat for breakfast in the oven.

While waiting for it to bake, Reina went upstairs to change.

Feeling a bit lonely with just bread and milk, I cut an apple Reina bought yesterday evening into slices and arranged them on a plate.

As soon as Reina came down, the pizza was ready, so I moved it to a plate and sat down to have breakfast together.

The rich aroma of tomatoes and cheese stimulated my nose, but I thought it was quite a meal for the morning. Pizza is a bit tough for me in the morning since I’m not a big eater.

After enjoying the crunchy texture of the walnuts and sipping milk, and savoring the crispness of the apple, I finished eating my portion and went to wash my face.

Splashing cold water to dispel drowsiness, I returned to the living room where Reina had finished breakfast and was doing the dishes, so I started hanging the laundry in the meantime.

After putting the dishes in the drying rack and finishing hanging all the laundry, the morning preparations were complete.

“It’s a bit early, but the roads might get crowded. Shall we go?”

“Don’t you need to do your makeup?”

“I can do it quickly in the car. Besides, I usually don’t wear much makeup, just about five minutes.”

“Because you’re naturally cute, right?”

“If you praise me like that, I’ll only give you a kiss.”

“That’s the best reward.”

Just saying what I thought and getting a kiss in return is the best.

Well, leaving that aside, I picked up my bag, locked the door, and got into the car.

After confirming that I didn’t forget anything, we departed.

Leaving the house at such an early hour seemed to have paid off because the roads were smooth without much traffic. If we were twenty or thirty minutes later, we would have been stuck in traffic.

We only got delayed by a few traffic lights, and we reached the university without any problems.

After parking the car, Reina checked the time and turned to me.

“We still have plenty of time before the first period… What do you want to do?”

“Sorry, I’m going to the lecture hall first. I still haven’t finished the pre-assignment.”

“I see. Then, see you later. Shall we have lunch together?”

“Of course. Then, let’s meet at the cafeteria for lunch.”

“I’ll be waiting! See you later!”

Seeing Reina off, I headed to the lecture hall.

Today’s first period is on the fourth floor of Building 6, which is a bit far from the parking lot. Although I had enough time, I hurried anyway, and due to lack of exercise, my breathing was slightly irregular.

Running through the university campus, which was empty in the morning, I reached the fourth floor of Building 6 and opened the door to the lecture hall I was aiming for.

“Huh. You’re early today.”

“I woke up early because I slept a lot yesterday due to poor health.”

There was already someone in the lecture hall, Sakagami.

Sakagami was also solving today’s pre-assignment with distributed handouts and a dictionary.

I sat next to him and took out the handout as well.

“Aren’t you being a bit too relaxed?”

“Don’t you have any room to talk?”

Even though he’s doing the same thing now, it’s probably today’s assignment for him too.

With a laugh, we started working on the assignment together.

Fortunately, the content was quite easy, and by the time people started entering the lecture hall, we had finished everything.

“I finished early, so don’t worry about it. Shall we go home then?”

“Yeah, let’s go. Can we stop by the supermarket to buy ingredients for dinner on the way back?”

“Of course. What was on sale today?”

I checked the supermarket’s official app that I recently learned about and confirmed today’s advertisements.

It seems that there’s a sale in the fresh fish section today, with discounts on tuna and yellowtail sashimi, so maybe we can make a seafood bowl or something…

“I found you!”

Just as I was contemplating the dinner menu, I sighed in response to the sudden voice.

Putting away my smartphone and looking at the source of the voice, my eyes probably looked like I was looking at a trash can.
