When My Younger Brother Stole My Girlfriend, I Began Living Together with My Beautiful Childhood Friend Almost As If We Were Married - Chapter 29
Episode 29: At the End of a Casual Day
When I received a call from Takumi, I should have expected it, and I’m amazed at my own stupidity for forgetting the most important thing.
Sitting on the sofa, drying Reina’s hair with the hairdryer, my phone vibrates again, this time showing an incoming call from my parents’ home.
“Takumi is hopeless too. You need to block him properly.”
“Yeah, my bad.”
“And you haven’t blocked your ex-girlfriend’s contact, have you? From what I saw that day, she’s definitely going to be persistent.”
“Yeah, you’re right…”
Unpleasant memories from high school come flooding back.
I don’t think anything like that attempted incident will happen again, but just to be safe, I need to block her contact immediately.
Ignoring the call from my parents’ home, I reject the call and then block it.
Anyway, whatever Takumi has to say will probably be unreasonable and not worth listening to.
After rejecting the call from my parents’ home, I also blocked Anna’s number. And then, I blocked all her accounts.
Although I thought it wasn’t necessary to go this far since there hasn’t been much contact since she approached me at school, it’s probably best to follow Reina’s advice.
I block all accounts and means of contact associated with Anna. This should at least save me from unnecessary worries for now.
Taking a deep breath, I comb through Reina’s shampoo-scented hair.
“Another dream come true.”
“Huh?”
“Having you dry my hair. Since I read a scene like this in a shoujo manga when I was in elementary school, it’s been a dream of mine.”
Leaning back, she entrusts her weight to me.
“If you’re okay with this, just let me know, and I’ll do it anytime.”
“I thought so. Thanks.”
Her hair tickles my nose a bit, making me feel itchy.
Once her hair is nicely dried, I hand her a change of clothes and she puts on her pajamas.
Reina seems to have a habit of being somewhat of a nudist when sleeping… or rather, inside the house, but despite thinking it’s selfish, I want her to wear at least the minimum amount of clothing for my sanity.
After changing into her pajamas, Reina takes out her laptop and accesses the university’s learning website.
“Oh, it looks like the report is out.”
“Can you submit it?”
“The class slides are attached, so I think I can manage to submit it somehow. Haven’t you done your assignments yet?”
“I’m skipping today.”
“Seriously. Even though I overslept today, you still need to do your assignments properly.”
Reprimanded by Reina, I give a half-hearted response and get up from the sofa.
I can’t interfere with Reina, so I’ll either watch anime or play games in my room until I feel sleepy.
“Alright, I’m going to my room.”
“Okay. I’ll come to the room after I’m done, so if you’re still awake, let’s sleep together?”
“Roger.”
After exchanging “goodnight” for formality’s sake, I enter my room.
I feel like I haven’t been in this room much lately. I usually spend most of my time in the third-floor bedroom with Reina, so it feels nostalgic to be in my own room.
I connect my phone to the spare charger and flop onto the bed. Well, it’s weird to call the one in my room the “spare” charger.
I chuckle wryly at the complete reversal of living spaces and reach for the controller to play some games.
When I detach the controller from the game console, the game, which was in sleep mode, immediately starts up, and the home screen is displayed.
I select the open-world game I’ve been playing since its release and resume from where I left off.
As I start, an enemy base is right in front of me.
About to start a battle immediately—,
“I’m done, Hayato~ Oh, you were playing this too, Hayato?”
“Huh!?”
Huh, she finished her assignment already? It takes me several times longer to finish than her.
Passing by me in surprise, Reina takes the controller from me.
“I’ll borrow this for a bit. Let’s create some recommended weapons for you, Hayato.”
“Here we go again…”
This installment of the game has a feature where you can create pretty much anything, even more so than the previous one.
I often see craftsmen online creating demon-like weapons in bulk, but is Reina one of them…?
“Wings here, cart here, rockets and golems and cannons here… There, it’s done.”
“It looks familiar.”
It’s like a smaller version of the flying dungeon with outstanding visuals from the previous installment. The quality is just too high.
Trying it out immediately, the weapon flies over the enemy base and wreaks havoc inside with its cannon, blowing away and scattering enemies.
When used at other bases, it proves to be extremely effective.
“Smart people have rich imaginations.”
“If there’s something annoying, this is how I relieve stress.”
“Yeah, this feels amazing.”
Enemies are blown away while burning. It’s seriously exhilarating.
But this weapon also has one drawback.
“It’s just repetitive work, so it makes you sleepy.”
Just watching enemies being blown away. It’s normal to feel sleepy.
“It’s perfect for a little time before bed, though. You can de-stress with this and then crawl into bed feeling sleepy.”
“Yeah, that feels nice.”
“Alright, how about you, Hayato?”
I immediately agree to Reina’s suggestion. I save the game, exit, and put the console into sleep mode, then unplug my phone from the charger and head to the third floor.
There, I connect it to another charger and check to make sure the alarm is set to wake me up tomorrow before turning off the lights.
“Goodnight, Reina.”
“Goodnight, Hayato.”
We embrace each other without exerting any uncomfortable force and fall asleep.
Ah, I feel so happy.
