When My Younger Brother Stole My Girlfriend, I Began Living Together with My Beautiful Childhood Friend Almost As If We Were Married - Chapter 13
Episode 13: A Face I Don’t Want to See
I felt sleepy, but I managed to summarize the key points, and the class ended.
The explanation for next week’s assignment, which is due, finally came, and its lunchtime at last.
As I tidy up my stationery, Shinohara stands up first.
“Alright, shall we go to the cafeteria? What about you guys?”
“I’m in.”
“Then, I’ll join too.”
“Sorry, I’ll pass. I have something to take care of.”
So, the three of us, excluding Sakagami, decide to head to the cafeteria.
As we grab our bags and stand up, my phone vibrates, displaying a received message.
“‘Want to have lunch together?’ Hm. Sorry, I’m eating with friends today.”
“Someone invited you? You could have left us and go you know.”
“We had lunch together yesterday. Today, let’s go with this group after a long time.”
“Right! We should hurry before the seats get taken!”
Lunchtime is a battle for seats.
Fortunately, Building 3 is the closest to the cafeteria, so I think it’s relatively easy to secure seats among the groups attending the second period.
Shinohara took off immediately, and Amamiya and I followed suit at a brisk pace.
Then Amamiya’s phone vibrates.
“Oh, Rik-kun and Yu-yu are going to the cafeteria too. Since they’re coming, it’s fine for the four of us to go together, right?”
“Yeah. Ichijo and the others… don’t they have classes today?”
“Rika has the day off, and Senan should only have the fourth period.”
With two more friends joining us at the cafeteria, we also headed there as quickly as we could.
When we rush into the cafeteria, a line has formed, not too long but noticeable.
Shinohara, who arrived first, is waiting for us with our two friends.
“You’re late! Hurry up, or the curry will run out!”
“No, the curry won’t run out.”
“The limited edition Korean fried chicken bowl seems qustionable, but everything else should be fine.”
Rikuta Sakata, also known as Rik-kun, made a calm retort.
Yukihira Yuma, also known as Yuyu who knows the menu well, stands beside him.
In addition to them, there are two more friends, Ichijo Rika and Jonishima Sena, making seven of us, who are often together during our college life.
Setting aside the introductions, we line up at the end of the queue before it gets longer.
As Yu-yu mentioned, there seems to be a feeling that the Korean fried chicken bowl might run out, but to be honest, except for the ordinary pork cutlet bowl, none of the cafeteria’s bowls are great, so I’m not expecting much. I’m aiming for something else.
After waiting for about ten minutes, we finally got to place our orders. I ordered the daily special lunch set from the lady behind the counter.
Today, it includes teriyaki hamburger steak, scrambled eggs, salad, miso soup, and rice. It’s less than 500 yen, so it really feels like it’s on the side of the students.
Shinohara and the others each order what they want… Seriously, Shinohara, a large serving of curry? That’s the first time I’ve seen someone order that.
As Shinohara struggles to find a seat while preventing the croquettes and fried chicken from falling off his tray, the rest of us follow suit with our trays of food.
And then it happened.
“…Ah, Hayato-senpai.”
I heard a voice I didn’t want to hear, and involuntarily, my expression stiffened.
Silently taking a step forward, the next words came out in a hurry.
“Please wait! I want to explain about that day…”
As I sighed and looked back, there stood the person who needs no introduction.
Anna Iyojima.
She’s my ex-girlfriend who chose my crappy little brother over me, betraying me.
“What?”
“I just wanted to explain what happened that day…”
“You don’t need to explain anything. See you.”
I spat out the words in an irritated tone and turned on my heel.
At this point, Amamiya probably guessed most of the situation or maybe just thought it was a big argument, as she made a small nodding gesture.
On the other hand, with no knowledge of the situation, Sakata and Yuma walked beside me with confusion.
“H-Hey. What happened to you guys?”
“We need an explanation. Hey, what happened to you guys?”
“It doesn’t matter. She and I are done.”
“Done, you say?”
“We broke up.”
As soon as I said that, a voice close to a scream echoed.
“No! I don’t want to break up yet!”
Eyes start flying around from around me, wondering what’s going on.
But more than that, what do you mean you don’t want to break up yet? You cheated on me, slept with someone else, and now you’re joking about not wanting to break up?
It’s too much of a hassle to deal with, so I ignore him and look for Shinohara.
“Wait, please, Senpai! I don’t accept breaking up!”
“…You’re persistent. Even if you don’t accept it, we’re already finished.”
“No! I don’t want to!”
She clung onto me so tightly that the tray was shaking and about to fall.
I immediately grabbed my tray with one hand and thanked Yuma, who held onto my tray with his other hand, while peeling Anna off of me.
“Cut it out already! You cheated, and now you don’t want to break up? Give me a break!”
“””Eh…?”””
Amamiya, Sakata, and Yuma all spoke at the same time with the same tone. Managing to peel Anna off, I accepted the tray from Yuma and started walking. Yet Anna, still unwilling to give up, gripped my arm tightly.
“Wait! At least let’s talk!”
Truly annoying.
Just as I was about to shake her off, even at the cost of sacrificing my lunch, Anna’s hand was suddenly brushed away.
“My boyfriend doesn’t like it. Could you please stop it?”
With a slightly angry tone in her voice, it was Reina who came to my rescue.
