When I was Reincarnated into a Game World, I Was a Farmer’s Son - Chapter 51
Chapter 51
The day I start my journey finally arrives. It’s still early dawn, the sun is just about to rise. While the town is still enveloped in silence, I stand in front of my uncle’s wagon parked in front of the shop.
My father, mother, and aunt are here to see me off. Meanwhile my uncle is checking the wagon’s cargo.
“Well then, Aunt, Mom, Dad, I’m off.”
I said so to them.
My father doesn’t say anything to me, he just affectionately ruffles my hair.
“Take care of yourself, Neil. If things get tough, you can always come back here. If you ever encounter something dangerous, it’s okay to run away, you know.”
My mom hugs me while she says so.
“Thank you, Dad, Mom. I’ll definitely come back.”
After checking the cargo, my uncle who is seating on the coachman’s seat, calls out to me and tells me that it’s time to depart. I climb up onto the carriage and take a seat next to my uncle.
“Dad! Mom! I’m off!”
I shouted so cheerfully. The horse pulling the cart slowly begin to move forward, gradually distancing me from mom and dad.
Don’t worry, I’ll do my best, so everything will be okay. I will definitely come back to mom and dad, just wait for me.
With that thought in mind, I keep waving my hand until I can’t see them anymore.
I heard that it takes about two weeks to walk from Northern town to Dasunza, even though we are travelling by uncle’s carriage, I think it will take a similar amount of time as walking.
In my current life and previous life, I had never ridden a horse or a carriage before, but I had the impression that horses are really fast. So, I’m actually quite surprised that my uncle’s carriage is moving at a much slower pace than I had imagined. However, we do have quite a lot of things in the carriage. Well, it’s still much better than walking.
Speaking of horses, the Marwell Knights who came to Machikane Village also brought some horses with them. The horses I saw at that time were beautiful and elegant, whereas the horse in front of me is actually about the same size or slightly smaller, but it is much chunkier and fatter.
When I asked my uncle about it, he explained that horses used for transportation by merchants are generally slow horses, or rather, horses that cannot run fast. He said that even though they can only walk slowly, their strength and endurance for long-distance travel are amazing.
Fast horses are quite expensive, and it seems that they are not easily affordable unless you are a wealthy noble or a large-scale trading company with abundant funds. Therefore, horses used by ordinary merchants for transportation are generally slow and cheap ones.
“It would be good for you to get used to riding horses, Neil. It seems that you can’t become a knight without being able to ride a horse.”
Well, in my imagination, knights are indeed associated with riding horses and fighting. It’s true that getting used to horses might not be a bad idea. So, during the journey to Dansunza, I decided to learn how to take care and ride the horse.
By the way, in the game, there are several missions where you ride horses. You can obtain two horses after completing a quest that occurs around the early to mid-game stages. Then, by obtaining an item called the Magic Carriage, you can use it as a carriage. The Magic Carriage is a very convenient item that can be used as an inn substitute and allows for stamina recovery.
On our journey to Dansunza, we are just simply walking straight through vast plains that seem to be no end. There is no one else or any creatures in sight besides us.
Instead, I saw that there are some areas where the grass in the plains had turned purple, indicating the spread of the Murasaki Disease.
I can see several mountains in the distance, and beyond those mountains, there seem to be several villages and towns.
Although there are called mountains, they are look more like hills, and they are no forests in sight. According to my uncle, it is safe here because they are hardly any monsters, making it a relatively safe area here.
When I expressed my curiosity about the villages and towns around here, my uncle explained that this area is quite challenging for human habitation due to the lack of water sources such as rivers and lakes. Without water, agriculture and utilization of the vast land are difficult, so the area around here remains undeveloped.
So, it seems that when traveling through these plains, it’s essential to always carry water with us. There are two large barrels filled with water inside the carriage, and we plan to replenish them in a village beyond the mountains.
My uncle said that it will take about three days to pass through the plains and cross the mountains at our current pace.
To rest the horse, we took occasional breaks during the journey and camped at night. During the breaks, I took care of the horse, fed it, gave it water, and brushed its body.
By the way, my uncle’s horse is named Chiruru, and he is over 20 years old. In human years, he would be close to 70 years old. When I approached him for the first time, I’m a bit scared because Chiruru is quite big, but he turned out to be very gentle. His round eyes are incredibly adorable, and I quickly got used to him.
When it comes to camping, we don’t specifically choose a location but rather camp wherever we are when it gets dark. It may seem careless, but there are no monsters or bad people like thieves around, so it’s not a problem. The journey to Dansunza seems to be truly safe.
However, between Dansunza and the Marwell County capital, Sains, we will need to pass through some dangerous areas near the forest where monsters can appear, uncle said that thieves even may appear sometimes.
Traders and travellers who engage in trading usually have confidence in their abilities, or if not, they hire will adventurers as escorts to accompany them between Dansunza and Sains.
