When I was Reincarnated into a Game World, I Was a Farmer’s Son - Chapter 49
Chapter 49
A few days after my parents grant me the permission to join the Marwell knight order, our family make our journey from Machikane Village to Northern town.
Upon our departure, most of the villagers came to see us off. It’s evident that my father and mother are well-liked by everyone in the village, being their child makes me feel proud.
As for our fields, the parts unaffected by the Murasaki Disease will be taken care of by the village chief.
Leaving Machikane Village is a bittersweet moment, but I’ve decided that I will return here one day and fulfil my dream of becoming a farmer. I want to spend my old days living peacefully here.
The distance from Machikane Village to Northern town is about a half-day walk. This is actually my first time leaving the village, and this is also my first time going to a town, so I’m really looking forward to it.
During the journey from our village to Northern town, Dad and Mom share their knowledge of traveling, and I ask them some questions as we walk as well.
I can tell that Dad and Mom are really worried about me, and I can sense their sadness as they tried to remember various knowledge to help me, even if just a little.
We departed from Machikane Village early in the morning and arrive in Northern town around noon.
The first thing I see when I arrive at the Northern town is the walls surrounding the town. They are made out of stacked stones and they kind of look like a stone rampart.
The height of the wall is not actually really tall, they are around 2 meters tall. Perhaps because the walls are covered in moss, they look kind of old.
There are soldiers in light armour at the entrance of the town, it seems that there is a checkpoint for people entering and leaving the town.
Normally, people need to give their name and some kind of identification to enter the town, but it seems that my father know the soldiers pretty well, and after a brief chat, they let us enter the town.
Unlike Machikane village, the streets here are huge and there are a lot of two-storey buildings. Also, something that differentiates this town and Machikane village is the amount of people on the streets. I’ve never seen this many people on the streets before.
After walking straight on the road for a while, my father and mother stop in front of a building near the centre of the town.
“This is your uncle’s shop, your mother’s older brother.”
My father told me so.
It is a two-storey building, has a simple wooden door, and weathered stone walls, giving it a quite aged atmosphere.
My mother opens the door and goes inside. Me and my dad follow mom.
I can see several wooden shelves in the store, pots, farming tools, and various other items that I’ve never seen before. I wonder if there is anything useful for me here.
At the back, there is a small counter where a middle-aged man is sitting. When he noticed us, he stands up.
“Mylene, Doug, good to see you! And you must be Neil, right? Nice to meet you. I’m your uncle, Junke.”
My uncle greets us so with a friendly expression on his face. His face looks like mom in some way, but I don’t know what it is exactly. Perhaps it’s his nose? His eyes? I greet him back and introduce myself for the first time. Then, he leads us to a room in the back where he introduced me to his wife, my aunt. She also seems like a kind person.
Shortly after that, my aunt told us all to sit on the table and offers us the meal she has prepared. We all have lunch together.
“Things have been really difficult lately, haven’t they? Who could’ve predicted the outbreak of the Murasaki Disease? Doug’s father must be frustrated in heaven to see the disease land this country again. During tough times, family is there to help each other, so Doug, Mylene, and Neil, please feel free to consider this place as your own home.”
My uncle said so with a warm expression on his face, my aunt also nods in agreement.
“Nii-san, it’s about Neil. Actually, in a few days, he plans to leave Northern town and head to Marwell county.”
Mom explained to my aunt and uncle that I’m going to be an apprentice knight in the Marwell Knight Order.
Both of them are surprised when my mother told them so, but they are even more surprised when my mom said that I got a recommendation letter from Goti himself.
“My business is actually really small compared to other shops in town, but I have some connection with the noble families. I heard bits and pieces of information about them. It seems that the current Count of Marwell, Schuften Marwell, has an excellent reputation.”
Uncle told us some information about the current ruler of Marwell, Schuften Marwell.
He is known to be a fair and good Count, earning the earning the trust of the people in his domain, and highly respected among the nobles due to his exceptional abilities as a leader.
It seems that Marwell County has seen remarkable development since Schuften became the Count.
“Neil, the fact that you received a recommendation letter to join the Marwell knight order from the vice-captain Goti Dakitanu himself is really impressive. The Dakitanu family is a renowned martial lineage and one of the top noble families in the Kingdom of Eldor. Among them, Goti is said to be the strongest in the history of the family. Since he is the second son, he can’t inherit his family lineage, and so, he became an adventurer. During his time as an adventurer, he participated in the extermination of a large horde of monsters that attacked a certain town, his outstanding performance and achievements were recognized, leading to his recruitment by the Knight Order.”
Uncle praised me so for being recommended by such a remarkable person. I had no idea that Goti is this famous.
By the way, it’s quite surprising to hear that there are some cases where a horde of monsters attack a town. In the game, monsters are generally not supposed to leave the forest. When I was hunting monsters around the lake myself, I’ve almost never encountered monsters outside of the forest.
However, it is true as the game progresses, monsters gradually start to wander outside of the forests. I’ll have to be cautious of monsters even when I’m outside a forest in the future.
Listening to Uncle’s story, it seems that both Count Marwell and Goti are not bad people. Hearing this brought some relief to both mom and dad.
