When I was Reincarnated into a Game World, I Was a Farmer’s Son - Chapter 39
Chapter 39
After defeating the Forest Wolf, all the knights are staring at me with surprised looks on their faces. However, as Goti’s expression turns dark, he tells everyone to leave the forest, so I hurriedly leave with them.
Yeah, it was definitely strange. I mean, a 10-year-old farmer’s child just casually defeated a monster. That was completely not normal!
I think about quietly it while quickly returning home before anyone can say anything about it, but I realize that I should express my gratitude for being allowed to witness Adol’s battle. With a sense of trepidation, I cautiously approach Goti.
“T-Thank you very much for allowing me to witness your men’s splendid battle, Knight-sama! …well then, if you’ll excuse me.”
“Nell, there are a few things I would like to ask you, but it’s getting dark now. Could you come to our camp tomorrow morning? Will that be alright?”
I intended to express my gratitude and quickly return home, but I end up being summoned for the next day. A mere farmer’s boy like me can’t possibly refuse a knight’s summon, so I respectfully told him yes and go back home.
Oh no, I wonder what will he ask me tomorrow. I have no idea what to expect. Even though my body is exhausted, I can’t fall asleep as I’m anxiously think about what would happen tomorrow.
The next morning, I go to their camp where the knights and lumberjacks are. There are several large tents set up in the camp. I can also see some horses near the campsite.
Since I don’t know which tent to go, I look around anxiously and happen to see Knight Adol. So, I decided to call out to him.
“Good morning. I’m Neil from Machikane Village. Thank you for allowing me to observe the battle yesterday.”
“Hey! Good morning. What brings you here today? Oh, that’s right! I remember now, you are summoned by the Vice Captain, aren’t you?”
“Yes, but I’m not sure which tent to go to”
“I see. Then come, I’ll guide you. Just follow me.”
“Thank you.”
And so, I follow Adol as he leads the way.
On our way, Adol says that I came quite early in the morning. Well, I was only told by Goti to come here in the morning. Besides, we don’t have a clock at home, so I didn’t ask what time I should come.
It’s actually quite troublesome to not have a clock in situations like this. Clocks do exist in this world, but they are somewhat expensive, although they are not that expensive that a commoner can’t afford them.
However, the farmers in remote villages like Machikane usually think they don’t need clocks. The villagers roughly divide their time into morning, afternoon, evening and night based on the general position of the sun and moon. On rainy or cloudy days, we just rely on our sense of time.
That’s why I thought that I should come a bit earlier than the usual time the lumberjacks start their work, but it seems I arrived a little too early.
“Vice Captain Goti! Excuse me! I have brought Neil from Machikane Village!”
Upon reaching the furthest tent in the camp, Adol said so out loud from its entrance.
“Thank you for bringing him. Let him in.”
After receiving a response from Goti, I greeted him and enter the tent. Hmm? Adol is not following me inside?
I can see chairs and a table inside the tent. Goti is sitting on one of the chairs, staring at me. On the table, there is something that look like a drawing—ah, it is a vicinity map of Machikane village!
“Good morning, sorry for calling you early in the morning like this.”
“Good morning. Thank you again for yesterday.”
“Don’t worry about it. As I mentioned before, I just want to show you a token of my gratitude. Anyway, please have a seat on that chair over there.”
“Thank you very much. Please excuse me.”
As Goti told me so, I sit on the chair, facing him across the table. Oh no, I’m starting to feel nervous. I wonder what he’s going to say now.
“Well then, let’s just go straight into it, I want to confirm something. How old are you currently?”
“I’m 10 years old.”
“10 years old, I see. I saw you defeat the monster yesterday, your movements were quite impressive. It’s remarkable for someone of your age to be able to defeat a monster like that. So, who taught you how to fight?”
“Um, well, no one in particular. I haven’t been taught by anyone.”
“You mean you didn’t learn how to defeat monsters from your parents or the villagers?”
“Yes, that’s right. My parents and the villagers are all farmers, so I don’t think anyone knows how to fight.”
“Hmm, I see…”
Goti’s POV
If his parents or the villagers have some knowledge of combat, it would make sese to some extent.
But even if that were the case, this boy’s movements in yesterday’s battle were truly remarkable, and it’s evident that this child has talent.
If it’s true that this child hasn’t been taught about combat by anyone, then there’s a possibility that he possesses tremendous raw talent.
Neil’s POV
Goti’s expression has become stern. Is he angry? D-Did I say something wrong? Did I do something wrong? No, no, there shouldn’t be any issue…but his face looks really intimidating!
*Gulp*
My heart is pounding, I’m feeling really anxious.
This is bad, this is really bad!
