When I was Reincarnated into a Game World, I Was a Farmer’s Son - Chapter 38
Chapter 38
Right now, I’m about to witness Adol, the youngest knight among the Marwell Knight Order, in battle. Goti told me to sit on a tree stump a little away from Adol and watch him closely.
“Make sure to keep a close eye on Adol, we don’t know when the monsters will appear.”
Goti who is standing next to me with his arms crossed said so. For a while, no monsters appeared. I’ve been staring at Adol’s figure and listening to the sound of trees being cut down for quite some time now.
Then, Adol, who had been holding his sword in one hand and lowering it, suddenly stands on guard. From beside Adol, I can hear something rushing towards him. It’s a Forest Wolf.
I realized that it’s the same weak type of Forest Wolf that I had encountered at the lake. It is charging through the trees, heading towards Adol.
As the Forest Wolf closes in, it leaps towards Adol. Without making any unnecessary movements, Adol simply adjusts his body position slightly and evades the Forest Wolf’s jump. Then, with a swift motion, he sliced through the Forest Wolf.
The body of the Forest Wolf is cleanly cut in half. He just finished it in one strike.
That was so fast! Seriously?! I’m left speechless by Adol’s fighting skills. His status values are indeed high, and there may be skill bonuses involved, but this is just incredible. He’s no ordinary knight.
Seeing the amazed look on my face, Goti smiles.
“Hahaha. It seems like you’ve gotten a sense of the knight’s true abilities. Since we’re already here, would you like to see a bit more?”
“Yes, please! Thank you very much!”
From then on, I observed Adol’s battles several times. He even took on multiple monsters simultaneously, and I even got a chance to see Adol use his magic. It seems that the magic Adol used just now is wind magic.
Some sort of translucent blades flew through the air, tearing the monsters to shreds. It’s the first time I seen offensive magic. It’s really cool, convenient, and truly amazing.
As we observe Adol’s battles, Goti would talk about combat and the regular training of knights.
Goti said, even though levelling up is important, it is equally important to acquire combat skills. Soldiers and Knights must consistently engage in combat training in order to become stronger.
I see, so skills are really important as well. It does seem really useful, and it is definitely the thing I’m lacking right now. Unfortunately, I don’t have anyone to teach me those skills. It does make sense that combat skills are necessary. For now, I’ll have to learn them on my own. I will use today’s observation of Adol’s battle as my practice reference.
“Alright, let’s head back to the village now.”
Before I knew it, the sun is already setting. Following Goti, we both head towards the village. The rest of the knights and the lumberjacks are also preparing to return to the campsite. I can see the lumberjack who had made me some oak sticks for me is also getting ready to leave.
Huh? Wait a minute… Is there something over there…? I have a feeling that there’s something behind that lumberjack, but it is getting dark, I can’t see it clearly…wait, it moved! That’s a monster, right!? It’s charging towards that lumberjack!
Without thinking much, I start running at him. The knights are nowhere near the lumberjack, and considering the speed of the monster approaching, they won’t make it in time. I hurried towards the lumberjack. Oh no! It’s coming!
“Uncle! Monster! Get down!!”
The lumberjack looks puzzled for a moment, but he finally noticed the approaching sound of the monster and managed to dodge it in time as it jumps towards him.
As the monster leaps through the air, it’s coming right towards me. There is no mistake, it is a Forest Wolf!
I had fought against Forest Wolves many times and had grown accustomed to their attacks. So, I have a good sense of their attack timing and range.
I believe because of that, I’m able to instinctively mimic Adol’s fighting style against the monsters earlier.
Without making any unnecessary movements, I simply dodge by slightly adjusting my body’s position and deliver a counter attack to the Forest Wolf.
I then swing the axe as hard as I can into the Forest Wolf’s body. The axe that I brought happened to be useful after all.
Although I can’t quite cut it in half like Adol, I somehow managed to defeat it.
Phew, that’s a relief. It seems the lumberjack isn’t injured either. Well, anyway, steel weapons really are something. If I had used a wooden stick, I would’ve had to strike it two or three more times to kill it. I wonder if I can somehow get this axe.
While I’m thinking about that, I feel many gazes looking at me. When I turn around, I see Goti and the other knights gathered here. They all are looking at me with surprised expressions on their faces.
Eh, wait a minute, isn’t this situation quite problematic???
