When I was Reincarnated into a Game World, I Was a Farmer’s Son - Chapter 34
Chapter 34
The villagers in Machikane seem to be delighted by the rare visitors which is the lord’s knights and the lumberjacks. Since there is very little entertainment in remote villages like Machikane, it is only natural for them to find it exciting to have a change in their daily routine with the arrival of the lord’s knights and the lumberjacks.
The children from Machikane village have gathered around the knights, creating a lively atmosphere. Despite their slight bewilderment, the knights respond kindly to the children gathering to see them.
Even in their lightweight armour, the knights still look very cool, and it’s natural for children here to look up and be inspired by them.
Even I join in the excitement among the lively children. When I glance at my father, he seems to be looking at me with a warm look on his face.
No, it’s not like I’m excited to see the knights or anything like that. I actually approached them to use the Appraisal skill on the knights so that I can know their status values in detail.
I noticed it while fighting monsters in the forest. It seems that the accuracy when I use the Appraisal skill changes depending on the physical distance between myself and the subject I’m using the Appraisal skill on.
If the distance between us is quite far, only basic information can be read, but as I get closer to the subject, more detailed information will be shown. To read the detailed status values of a subject, I actually have to be quite close, approximately within 2 meters.
So, I mix in with the children who are gathering around the knights with the look of amazement in their faces, and get closer to them. I want to check the knights’ status, confirm my current status and gather information for my future status value goals.
Among the five knights, I decided to use the Appraisal skill on the biggest and strongest-looking one.

—Brief Description—
Goti Dakitanu, the second son of Viscount Dakitanu. After getting involved in adventurer activities, he joined the military in the Marwell Earldom and is currently serving as the Vice Captain of the Marwell Knight Order. He is highly regarded for his abilities.
Height: 187cm
Weight: 92kg
Left-handed
Married
He is gentle, caring, and well-liked by his subordinates.
I thought he looked strong, but it turns out he’s actually the vice captain. The level difference alone is 10 levels higher than mine, and his status values are more than three times higher than mine. Also, he has acquired many skills, it seems that the influence of jobs is quite significant after all. I knew this already, but it’s still shocking how significant it is. My hopes are dropped.
By the way, in order to become a knight, it is a must to become a noble. In the game, as the story progresses, the protagonist becomes a noble in the mid stages of the game, so it becomes an available choice of job for the protagonist.
As a job, being a knight is neither outstandingly good nor bad. It is a relatively strong job in the mid-game, with well-balanced status values, making it quite versatile to use. However, it lacks any standout or special abilities and becomes not quite useful from the late stages of the game to the endgame.
Of course, I also use the Appraisal skill the other knights. While they don’t have the same level as the captain and have lower levels than me, their job as swordsmen or knight gives them higher stat values than me.
Also, I noticed something after using the Appraisal skill on them. The amount of experience points required for them to level up is significantly higher compared to me.
I understand that the vice-captain, who has 10 level difference than me, is expected to need more experience points to reach the next level. However, the difference is just too large.
Focusing on that aspect, I use the Appraisal skill on the other knights again. I confirm that knights who were nearly the same level as me require several times more experience points compared to me for the next level up.
So, does that mean farmers level up more easily? Well, even if that’s the case, it doesn’t really benefit me in any way.
After all, levelling up doesn’t matter if my status values don’t increase. Even if I have a higher level than the knights, it’s meaningless if I have low status values.
Even if I change jobs, my fundamental status values will remain the same, however the status values that I will gain as I level up will be adjusted and added depends on the job I select. So that means, even if my level is high, it won’t mean much if my status values don’t increase.
I also try to use the Appraisal skill on one of the lumberjacks. Even though their level is much lower than mine, some of their status values are nearly the same as mine. It’s likely due to their job as a lumberjack.
I thought five knights won’t be enough to protect dozens of lumberjacks as they are getting firewood, but I suppose the lumberjack themselves can handle weak monsters to some extent.
By using the Appraisal skill to them, I realized that the farmer job is indeed considered one of the lower-tier jobs.
After a while, the knights and the lumberjacks move to a nearby plain, a bit away from the village, and set up tents for their camp. They are planning to stay there for about two months. Since they only come once every few years, they intend to stay for a quite some time so that they can get enough firewood to stockpile for several years.
