When I was Reincarnated into a Game World, I Was a Farmer’s Son - Chapter 31
Chapter 31
I finally managed to defeat a monster named Horn Saber, which is a rabit-type monster. It is one of the weaker monsters around here, and perhaps I was lucky to be able to sneak up on it, but still, I feel like I took a big step toward my dream.
I want to defeat another monster today if possible, but when I look at my wooden spear in my hand, I notice that it’s tip is crushed. It would be impossible to thrust monsters using this.
In fact, I couldn’t even pierce through a weak monster like the Horn Saber, so to be frank, it seems like it is impossible to defeat monsters by thrusting my spear into them. It’s such a shame because I put quite a lot of effort into sharpening my wooden spear.
However, since I can deal quite a lot of damage by swinging my wooden spear like a stick, I’ll just focus on that for now.
So, I enter the forest again and prepare for my second battle for today. I decided to go into a different direction from where I encountered the Horn Saber earlier.
When I use the Appraisal skill on the Horn Saber earlier, it showed that it’s edible, so I actually want to take it home. However, I can already imagine being interrogated by my parents about bringing a monster home. I would definitely be not allowed to go outside anymore.
I have never butchered any living creature in my previous life or this life before, so I couldn’t eat it myself here. Even if I knew how to butcher it, I don’t even have the tools for it. It’s such a shame, but I have no choice but to leave the meat behind.
If that’s the case, I don’t want to attract other monsters with the meat like what happened with the Yokozuna Devil. So I decided to go in a different direction from where I fought the Horn Saber earlier.
I push through the grass just like earlier, and after moving forward a few steps, I emerge into a thick bush. Carefully looking at my surroundings, I slowly move forward and immediately spot another monster. It’s another Horn Saber.
The Horn Saber is busy digging a hole just like the one earlier. Since it noticed me when I try to sneak up on it last time, I should be more careful this time. I approach it as close as possible without being noticed and pick up a stone that’s lying on the ground. Then, I throw it with all my might.
Perhaps due to my Throwing Skill, or perhaps just because of pure luck, the stone hit the Horn Saber on the head at the exact moment it turns towards me. It took a significant amount of damage from the impact and seems to be stunned. This is my chance!
I run at it and close the distance between us. Then, I strike the Horn Saber on the head with all my might using my wooden spear. As a result, the Horn Saber, which took my full-force blow, fall down like a puppet with its strings cut.
After using the Appraisal skill on it, it seems that I was able to defeat it with a single strike. After finishing the second battle, I regain my composure and catch my breath. Could it be that I’ve become quite strong? Considering my stats, I should have no problem dealing with weak monsters now.
However, there is still a possibility of encountering stronger ones.
I should continue to hunt weaker monsters while staying vigilant and cautious of my surroundings, I definitely don’t want to be suddenly attacked by a strong monster. Complacency is indeed a great enemy, I shouldn’t let my guard down.
It’s just that, even though I’ve only fought twice, I’ve encountered nothing but Horn Sabers so far.
In the game, monsters were encountered randomly, but I wonder if there are only weaker monsters in the edge of the forest?
While thinking about such things, I hear a rustling sound again in the distance. I look closely towards the source of the voice and see another Horn Saber.
I quietly approach it and throw a stone at it like before. This time it hit its body instead of its head, but it still stuns. So I close the distance between us and strike it as hard as I can.
This time, the Horn Saber doesn’t fall in a single blow, so I quickly follow up with another strike and defeated it. After confirming that I’ve killed it using the Appraisal skill, I look around my surroundings.
Amidst the eerily quiet trees, I spot another Hornsable-like figure in the distance. I approach it and take it down just like the one before.
In the end, no monsters other than Horn Sabers appeared today. I’m able to defeat a total of eight Horn Sabers without much trouble today.
