When I was Reincarnated into a Game World, I Was a Farmer’s Son - Chapter 30
Chapter 30
The thought of fighting against monsters is really scary, but I understand that in order to level up quickly, there are some chances that I need to take. The monsters around Machikane Village are mostly mid-game level and quite strong, so I need to find the weakest monsters around the area.
Even though I said to need to take some risks, I need to be cautious and minimize the risks as much as I can at the same time. Unlike in the game, I only have one life here.
In the game, monster encounters are random, so I don’t know where the weak monsters around here are. To find monsters, I need to go to the forest, that’s why it would be best if I can find a spot where I can escape at any time.
I can’t fight monsters near my house or the village, because if I escape and the monsters chase after me, there is a great possibility that other people will be in danger. On top of that, if the villagers see me going into the forest, they will definitely stop me.
Therefore, I’ve decided that I’m going to fight monsters near the lake, it is a place where I’ve been going to almost everyday for the past year, I’m already quite familiar with it. If I get attacked by a Forest Wolf like before, I can always escape to the lake. However, there is still a possibility of getting attacked by a Yokozuna Devil in the lake though.
Right now, I’m standing in the spot where I usually fish. Taking a deep breath, I hold my wooden spear with both of my hands, and enter the forest. The grass that are at the forest’s edge are over my height making it difficult to see. Using my wooden spear, I carefully push aside the grass and proceed slowly. After walking a few steps forward, I finally entered the forest. There are trees everywhere, but the grass there is not as tall as the forest’s edge. It’s really quiet here, I can hear my heart throbbing.
Then, I hear rustling sounds in front of me. There’s something there. I look closely into the source of the voice. I see something the same colour as the tree trunk moving.
Horn Saber
Rarity: E
Type: Rabbit-type monster
Has sharp horns
Edible
Using the Appraisal skill, it is revealed to be a Horn Saber, a magical creature in a form of a rabbit. In the game, it is said to be about the size of a small dog and has a single horn on its head. However, since I can only see its back from here, I can’t see its horn.
I can’t really see what it’s doing, but it seems like it is digging a hole? It seems to be rustling around. In any case, I managed to find a relatively weak monster. Moreover, it doesn’t seem to have noticed me. Let’s approach it quietly from behind and take it down in one thrust.
My heart is pounding really hard, I should calm down. I slowly approach the Horn Saber without making any noise. Suddenly, the Horn Saber stands up and turns towards me.
At the moment our eyes met, the Horn Saber suddenly charges at me.
I managed to dodge its attack, but my feet got tangled. Oh no, this is not good, I end up falling on my back. It attacked me so suddenly, I’m too surprised that I can’t do anything but to stare at it. No, I should get myself together.
When I snapped back to reality and look, it seems like the Horn Saber is floating in the air. What!? It can fly!?
Upon closer inspection, I realize that the Horn Saber’s horn is stuck into a thick three trunk. I feel relived, I really thought it could fly.
Seeing the Horn Saber desperately trying to free its horn with its legs, I can’t help but find it a bit cute. But this is my chance!
I thrust my wooden spear into the Horn Saber’s back. With a cracking sound, I notice that the tip of my wooden spear is about to break. This is a really bad timing to break my weapon.
Oh no! It doesn’t seem like I have caused any significant damage. Overwhelmed by fear, I pull out my wooden spear out of its back and relentlessly swing my wooden spear like a stick to the Horn Saber’s body.
I swing and swing my wooden spear until my hands are about to give up. Eventually, I noticed that the Horn Saber which its horn is still stuck in the tree trunk, is no longer moving.
Taking a deep breath and calming myself down, I cautiously poke the Horn Saber’s body with the tip of my wooden spear, it’s not moving. It seems like I have killed it.
When I use the Appraisal skill on it, I can see that its HP is at 0.
I did it! I defeated a monster!
“Yes!”
I can’t help but to shout in excitement, but immediately I realized that my voice might attract the attention of other monsters. I hurriedly cover my mouth and quickly leave the forest. I feel really exhausted, so I decided to sit down in front of the lake.
Yes, I finally did it! I managed to defeat a monster for the first time!
After I calmed down, I use the Appraisal skill to check on my status. I gained 250 experience points. It probably took me around 10 minutes to find the monster and defeat it. Sometimes it takes me about an hour to catch just one fish while fishing. I gained more than three times the experience points compared to fishing. It makes me realize that defeating monsters is the only way to level up quickly after all.
