I searched around the house for some materials I can use to make a weapon, but there doesn’t seem to be anything useful. The only thing I can find which is close to a weapon is a kitchen knife, but it’s obviously not suitable for combat.

It is the only kitchen knife we have in our house, and mom usually uses it for cooking, I can’t just uses that as my weapon. Moreover, the kitchen knife was given to my mother as a wedding gift when mom and dad got married. It is a very valuable item for us. As we are just a family of common farmers, mom always takes a good care of it and makes sure it always stays sharp every day. I can’t just take it without permission and run around hunting monsters with it.

As for other tools made of steel, they are also valuable for us farmers and not suitable as weapons. Besides, it is unlikely that I will able to learn any skills from using farming tools as a weapon. Looks like I’ll have to make my own weapon after all.

So, as usual, after I finish helping mom and dad with the farm work in the morning, I start to make my spear in the afternoon. First, I will need to find a wooden stick that is strong enough to be a spear. Luckily, I found and had already collected some of it beforehand while I was running around the field as my training.

Ideally, I want to use bamboo instead of wood. When you think of farmers, you will of course think of bamboo spears, right? However, I couldn’t find any bamboo at all. When I asked my father about it, he told me that bamboo does exist in this world and they are not particularly rare, but unfortunately, there are no bamboos around this area.

There’s a possibility that there might be a bamboo forest in the woods, but nobody has confirmed it because of the danger of monster attacks. No farmer is crazy enough to go to the forest. It’s really unfortunate that I couldn’t find bamboo, but well, it seems like I have no choice but to use a wooden stick as my spear instead.

I actually want to finish my spear as soon as I can, but just like when I made my fishing hook, I have no tools to make it. So, I have no choice but to patiently scraping the stick against the rough rocks to sharpen it.

The wooden sticks I have collected comes in different sizes and shapes. I need to chose the one that is strong enough to be a spear, and easy to be hold in my hand.

After I chose the stick, I start scraping against the hard rocks, shaping its tip. To make it not too boring, I imagine that I am sharpening a giant pencil.

It took me a about month to shape the fish bone into a fishing hook, but this time, it took me around three days to shape the wooden stick into a wooden spear. The process is quite similar to making the fishing hook, but wood is so much easier to shape than the bone, and on top of that, I think the growth of my status values also helps.

It seems that my current status values allow me to shape the wood even faster than before. I even feel stronger myself. Well of course, even though I say ‘stronger’ I’m still a nine years old farmer boy.

Then after about a week, the spear is finally ready. It is not too similar to what I imagined, but this will work. To put it simply, it looks like a giant pencil, it is shaped specifically for thrusting. Let’s use the appraisal skill and take a look of the details.

Sharp Wooden Stick

A Sharp Wooden Stick…so it is not exactly considered a spear, huh? And it’s the lowest rarity, G, too.

Afterward, I try to shape it like a spear as best as I can. When I use the appraisal skill on it again, it still says ‘Sharp Wooden Stick’. Well, I guess I have no choice but to use it for now.

I’m also feeling impatient to level up as quickly as possible, and I don’t want to spend too much time crafting weapons. Even though it’s called a ‘Sharp Wooden Stick’, I convinced myself that it will be considered a spear in combat and there will a possibility of acquiring spear ability skills if I use it. It will be easy, it will be just like how I acquired the ‘Rock Throwing’ skill by smashing a rock at the Yokozuna Devil’s head rather than throwing it, I hope…I’m not actually sure about it.

And so, the ‘Sharp Wooden Stick’ became my first weapon.
