When I was Reincarnated into a Game World, I Was a Farmer’s Son - Chapter 20
Chapter 20
It took me a total of two months to gather and prepare all the fishing equipment, but finally, the day has arrived!
So, with my homemade fishing gear and a bunch of vegetables from the farm, I make my way to the lake. It’s still as beautiful as before, but it seems to be quieter than the last time I came. The last time I came here, there were a few fishes swimming around near the water’s edge, it was as if they were being chased by monsters, but today I can’t see any of them.
Perhaps all of the fish got eaten up during these two months. Well, either way, it doesn’t matter to me. My main goal is to catch the Yokozuna Devil, a monster. I don’t care if there are no fish around. What matters to me is I need to gain some experience points.
With that in mind, I immediately pierce the vegetables onto my homemade fishing hook as a bait. Then I swing the rope in my right hand in a circular motion, and cast it to the lake.
Splash! The fishing hook makes quite a loud noise as it enters the water, but I can only cast it about two meters away from the water’s edge. While lamenting on my own weakness and reminding myself that I’m still only eight years old and a farmer’s boy, I slowly reel in the rope.
I reel in with the hope to lure the monsters or fishes to take my bait, I got nothing at all. Not giving up, I keep casting and reeling in my fishing hook quite a few times.
I don’t know how many times I have repeated this process, but when I’m about to give up, something takes my bait. Could it be? Making sure, I pull the line back to me. It is resisting, there is no mistake.
Is it really happening? It’s…really heavy!
Even though I am pulling the line with all my strength, I can only reel it in a bit.
Oh no, my grip strength is fading!
Despite its resistance and struggling, when I managed to reel it in bit by bit. Then, I can clearly see a fish-like shadow in the pristine water at the end of the line.
“Appraisal!”
Yokozuna Devil
Fish-type monster
Rarity: E
Omnivorous and highly productive
—Detailed status can’t be shown—
I didn’t really need to shout “Appraisal!” to use the appraisal skill, but I got too excited and carried away.
Alright! Now I just need to reel it in!
I desperately pull the line, and with one final strong pull, the Yokozuna Devil, with its hideous face and sharp teeth, jump out of the water, passing by right beside my face.
It is wriggling around on the ground. Surprisingly, it’s much smaller than I thought. Even though it is that small, it has such a strong power to resist me in the water. I guess that’s just how monsters are.
Despite its small size, its mouth opens wide and it is full of sharp teeth. Thankfully, my fishing hook went through its cheek, making it not able to escape. Well, at least now I manged to gain some experience points from fishing! I decide to use the Appraisal skill to myself to see how much experience I gained.
Hmm? I didn’t gain any experience points?
I glanced at the Yokozuna Devil which is still very much alive, wriggling around on the ground.
Do I have to kill it?
When I take a closer look at the Yokozuna Devil, it has such an incredibly frightening and hideous face. No wonder it is called a “Devil”
Now, what should I do? I don’t want to touch it carelessly and risk getting bitten, with those sharp teeth, I can lose a whole finger if it bit me.
Hmm, let’s try throwing a stone at it. I pick up a nearby stone and throw the stone at it, it made a dry sound and bounced off.
Hmm…in that case. Wobbling, I pick up a large stone and hold it with both of my hands. Aiming for its head, I throw the large stone at it.
A splattering sound can be heard. Even though its head is crushed, the lower body is still wriggling and twitching. I take another large rock and throw it to the moving body. Finally, it stops moving.
I try to poke it with a wooden branch that was lying around, and there is no reaction at all. I think it should be dead now. Carefully approaching it, I lift the stone that had crushed its head, revealing a quite pitiful sight—a completely crushed Yokozuna Devil’s head.
Phew, I managed to kill it somehow. I’m exhausted, it was really scary. I sit down on the spot, taking a deep breath.
