When I was Reincarnated into a Game World, I Was a Farmer’s Son - Chapter 19
Chapter 19
I don’t remember there is a monster called “Yokozuna Devil” in the game, but anyways, I finally managed to find a fish-type monster. The appraisal skill mentioned that it is highly reproductive, so there it might not be alone. Moreover, since it has a rarity of E, the difficulty of catching it should be low.
By the way, in the game, besides their levels, monsters have ranks that represent their rarity. The ranks go in the order from G which is the lowest to, F, E, D, C, B, A, and S which is the highest, the rarer the monster is the more powerful and dangerous it is.
Even though this rank doesn’t necessarily indicate to the strength of the monster, generally high-rarity monsters are high levelled.
As a low-level farmer, I even doubt I can take on a G-rank monster, but in the case of fishing, the rank represents the difficulty of catching it rather than its strength. So, I should be able to catch it, probably.
Since I’m able to confirm the presence of monsters in the lake, I’ll head back now.
I managed to return to the village before it got dark. On the way back, I tried my best not to be seen by the villagers, but some people still noticed me.
No one said anything in particular, but if I plan to visit the lake multiple times in the future, it would be problematic if they start suspecting, I need to be more careful next time.
The next day, after finishing my morning farm work as usual, I decided to prepare for fishing.
However, the problem is that I don’t have a fishing rod, fishing line, or fishing hooks, so I have to make them from scratch.
Hmm, what should I do?
While training, I looked around for fallen branches that can be used as a fishing rod, but I couldn’t find anything to use.
Well, in the worst case, even without a fishing rod, I can just tie a fishing hook to a string and cast it. I have a straw-made rope that I can use as the string. Now the problem is the hook.
In the game, the protagonist crafts fishing hooks with monster bones or gets it from the wealthy fish enthusiast.
Bones, huh?
“Mom, do you have any bones from the fish we ate yesterday?”
“Bones? I do have some, but what are you going to do with them?”
I casually asked mom for some the fish bones from the fish we ate yesterday. Well, I think I managed to get it without mom suspecting anything. When I touch the bones, they are a lot harder than I expected, maybe it will work just fine? Let’s try to shape it into something like a hook.
And so, another month has passed. While continuing my training, I try to work on the fish bones on my free time. I secretly use my mom’s kitchen knife because it is the only knife we have at our house. However, it is not making any progress at all.
Therefore, I relentlessly try to scrape it against the rough surface of stones scattered in the farmland. It’s a painfully slow process, but progress is progress.
Due to exerting force while scraping, my hands and fingers became covered in blisters. But after a month of working on it, its shape is getting closer to a fishing hook.
Then, another month passed. Finally, it starts to look like a proper fishing hook. The final product is considerably larger than a typical fishing hook in Japan, but since I’m going to fish some monsters, it should be fine, probably.
Well, I have to make it work with this.
Making a hole to thread the fishing line should’ve been the most difficult part, but because I was too scared that I would accidentally break the hook that I had worked so hard on, I just tightly tie the hook with the fishing line instead.
Alright, this will do!
Next, I need to find some bait. Thankfully, I have a clue for that, in the game, the type of baits that can be used to fish varies depending on the rarity of the fish (monster). Since I’m targeting the Yokozuna Devil, which is E rarity, vegetables can be used as bait.
It feels strange to use vegetables as bait, but as the son of a farmer, I can get it quite easily. After I take some vegetables from the field, I am now ready for monster fishing!
