When I was Reincarnated into a Game World, I Was a Farmer’s Son - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
There are two ways to obtain experience points (EXP) and level up in the game:
1. Defeating monsters to gain experience points.
2. Sending characters to training facilities to gain experience points.Training at facilities takes time and provides much less experience points than defeating monsters. However, I’m hesitant to engage in direct battles with monsters, so I’d like to try training if it guarantees experience points.
For now, I plan to do some running, strength training, and practice my swings with a wooden stick imagining it’s a sword, just to see how much experience points I can gain. However, there’s something I need to do before that.
I need to equip the Sapphire Earrings.
After helping my parents with the farm work and finishing in the afternoon, I sit on a rock beside the field, holding the earrings in my hand and contemplating at it.
Earrings…
I’ve never worn earrings in my life or in my previous lives. It seems painful.
After all, I have to pierce a hole in your ear, right?
It doesn’t sound like a good idea!
I can’t imagine it!
But I have to admit that not having the 5x experience point gain effect for levelling up would be highly inefficient. Especially since I’m just a weak farmer’s boy.
Looking at the Sapphire Earrings, I notice that they are just simple earrings without sharp posts. It seems impossible to directly pierce my ears using these.
Does that mean I have to pierce my ear with a needle or something? Then I will need to remove the needle, and insert the earrings into the hole?
Just imagining the process of it sends shivers down my spine.
Eeek! No, no, I can’t do it! It’s impossible for me to do it!
“Hey, what are you doing? Hmm? What are you holding?”
As I’m contemplating my life on it, mom calls out to me with a suspicious look on her face.
Oh no! The earrings!
“Hey, are those earrings? Where did you get those? …don’t tell me, did you steal them!?”
“N-No, mom! I didn’t steal them, I found them…”
“You found them? Really?”
“Y-Yeah, I did!”
“Well, I’m the only one in our village who wears earrings, you know? I don’t even have such fancy earring like that myself. But it’s strange to think that something like this would end up in such a rural place.”
It seems that many people in this country, including my mom, wear earrings. It is said to have a protective meaning against evil spirits. But it seems like my mother is the only one in the village who wears them.
“So, what were you doing? Could it be that you want to put on those earrings but don’t know how?”
“I know how to put it on, but…”
“Hahaha, you’re afraid to pierce your ears, aren’t you?”
“I-I’m not afraid!”
“Really?”
“Y-Yeah!”
“I see. Then, wait here for a minute.”
With a big grin on her face, Mom goes into the house and comes right back out.
Then, mom comes over to me with a needle in her hand.
D-Don’t tell me!
“Well, you’re at that age too, you know? It might be a bit early, but I think it’s a good thing to express yourself through fashion. Plus, earrings protect you from evil spirits.”
My mother grabs my ear tightly with a smirk on her face. She’s such a sadist!
“Umm, well, you know, Mom. Maybe I don’t need to wear it today… I-I’m not feeling well now.”
“Wow, men really are cowards. You’re just like your father, looking all nervous. Alright, leave it to me!”
Suddenly,
“Aaahhh!!”
The needle pierced my ear.
Today, I managed to wear the earrings successfully, but the fear I experienced during the process of piercing my ear took a toll on my mental state. So, I decided to postpone the training until tomorrow.
