When I Tried Strengthening 【Rusted Sword】, It Evolved Into An Overpowered Magic Sword
Chapter 37 What I’m looking for
The next morning.
As promised, I arrived at the fountain square, our meeting place, to meet Dia.
The current time was 8:40. Dia hadn’t arrived yet.
Since there were still twenty minutes until our appointed time, I decided to wait for Dia while idly watching the people passing by.
There was still a slight drowsiness lingering, so I attempted to awaken my groggy mind by observing the lively town.
I ended up practicing until the very late hours last night. I was frustrated because I couldn’t grasp the knack of the dual enchantment magic, and the duration of the magic sword kept increasing, so the training time also became longer as a result.
Because of that, even the guards gave me suspicious looks, which was scary.
They should have remembered my face by now. But it seems I still have to keep going there regularly for face recognition.
Anyway, there was more than that, and I’m a little sleep-deprived today.
If I let my guard down, I might fall asleep standing up and enter into a dream.
That aside, isn’t Dia coming yet?
Before I knew it, it was already nine o’clock…
“I-I’m sorry, Rust-san!”
“Oh, Dia…”
Just when I was starting to worry, Dia appeared from the crowd, waving her hand.
And she rushed towards me, panting heavily as she reached me.
Finally making it to the fountain square, Dia leaned on her knees, trying to catch her breath.
“S-Sorry for being late…!”
“N-No, it’s okay, you’re not late at all. You’re right on time.”
Besides, as adventurers, we don’t have set starting times, so being a little late is not a problem at all.
So, there’s no need to look so apologetic.
But more than that, I was curious about something else.
The fact that Dia arrived right on time intrigued me.
She’s similar to me in being a worrier, always being at the meeting place thirty minutes before the agreed time.
So today, I tried my best to arrive thirty minutes early as well, but I ended up oversleeping and got there only twenty minutes early, making Dia wait again.
However, contrary to my expectations, Dia arrived right on time.
Was there some kind of trouble? Or maybe she couldn’t sleep last night?
Whatever the reason, it seems she couldn’t spare any time in the morning.
Because…
“Your… bedhead is pretty wild, want to fix it somewhere?”
“Huh!?”
Dia seemed surprised as she touched her head.
Then she noticed that the hair above her ears was sticking up, and her face flushed red.
She probably slept right up until the last minute without time to fix her bedhead.
Was it because she went to bed late?
Maybe she was thinking about the incident in Bluestoria from yesterday?
She seemed really concerned and was probably thinking hard because she thought it might lead to clues to find her parents.
As Dia blushed and tried to fix her bedhead with a comb, I said with a smile,
“We’re not in a hurry today, so why don’t you take your time and fix it somewhere calm? I’ll wait here.”
“Sorry…”
Dia apologized with a remorseful expression and quickly went to fix her bedhead.
Watching her hurry off, I thought to myself.
I should probably visit Bluestoria soon after all.
I want to investigate the adventurers’ disappearances to ease Dia’s worries, and besides, Bluestoria is a tourist destination with its sea and white beaches.
Seeing the beautiful town, eating delicious food, and taking it easy should naturally ease any pent-up feelings.
Secretly, I began to make plans like that in my mind, without telling Dia.
After what seemed like a few minutes of struggling in front of the mirror, Dia returned, having neatly fixed her bedhead.
Then, we headed to the adventurers’ guild together.
Stepping into the familiar building, as we were about to peek into the reception window as usual…
Before we could say anything, a voice called out from the reception.
“Oh, it’s Rusty and Silver-haired-chan! We’ve been waiting for you!”
“Ah, good morning, Charm-san.”
A young girl in a pink, frilly dress was happily smiling at the reception window.
She still didn’t look like a guild staff member, and seeing her standing on a stack of chairs behind the high reception window made it even more apparent.
“As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve prepared a perfect request for you two! I’m so glad you came to the guild!”
“We promised yesterday, didn’t we? I was looking forward to seeing what kind of request you’d introduce us to.”
Yesterday, Charm-san had promised to prepare a request tailored just for us.
And it’s supposed to be a lucrative one too.
I was excited as an adventurer to see what kind of request it would be.
I always enjoy gathering requests, but I also want to try something different occasionally.
Moreover, this will let us know how Charm-san evaluates us.
A request tailored to us. That means it’s a request that matches our current abilities.
Beyond the evaluation of others, this is a valuable opportunity to accurately assess ourselves.
Knowing how much our current abilities are worth is crucial.
“Now, let me introduce the request right away~. The request I want Rusty-kun and Silver-haired-chan to take on this time is a ‘Search Request’~”
“A s-search request?”
Basically, it’s a request to “search for something” within an area.
It could be searching for an object, a person, or even a lost pet.
Although in terms of searching, it’s similar to a ‘Collection Request’, the emphasis of a ‘Search Request’ is more on finding rather than gathering.
We’ve only tried it once before, searching not in an area but in the town itself, where a wealthy old lady asked us to help find her lost grandchild.
I remember it was a heartwarming request that didn’t seem like a typical adventurer’s job at all.
While it was an important request and surprisingly paid more than a collection request, it wasn’t quite what I imagined as a job for adventurers.
So, even when told about a search request, I didn’t quite grasp its significance.
“It seems like you two are good at collection requests~. I wanted to prepare a request in that area if possible~. Could it be that you two are aiming to become ‘Collection Adventurers’?”
“N-No, it’s not like that… It’s just that in the Bronze Class, we can only choose between collection requests and search requests.”
So, if we had to choose one, we thought collection requests would be better, so we’ve been sticking to those.
So, it’s not like we’re aiming to be collection adventurers. Although that sounds interesting too.
“I see~. That’s a relief to hear~. If you were aiming to become ‘Collection Adventurers’, I don’t think you would’ve liked this request~. But I believe it’s the best fit for you two right now~”
“So, uh, what exactly are we supposed to search for?”
A lost child? Or maybe a pet?
Hopefully not some household item they lost and want us to help find. That wouldn’t be a very pleasant request, would it?
As I had a bad feeling about it, Charm-san smiled and answered,
“We want you to find a certain person’s ‘Relic’~”
“…A relic?”
They want us to find a relic.
Is that really the perfect request for us right now?
