A Bad Day. (Maybe)
It hasn’t been my day since this morning.
I ended up savoring my pre-made breakfast too slowly—it was just too delicious! Because of that, I had to rush to school in the rain and, as expected, got completely drenched… Hey, you there. Don’t start saying it’s my own fault. I know that better than anyone else.
But hear me out—when you try to eat a proper breakfast, it takes longer, right?
Before, it was just slurping down some jelly and nibbling on a CalorieMate, and I’d be done. But now, I get to relish the joy of chewing through a full meal in the morning…!
Especially yesterday’s stir-fried meat and vegetables, lovingly made by Shirayanagi-kun. It paired so well with rice, giving me a sense of energy and vitality from the get-go.
Wait, does this mean this is all Shirayanagi-kun’s fault? Maybe? No?
Well, okay, I know it’s mostly my fault for eating leisurely on a rainy day. But still, I want to pin this on him!
Anyway, after finishing my meal and grabbing my umbrella, I headed out in a hurry. But the moment I stepped outside, the rain suddenly started pouring harder.
Seriously, what’s with that?
At that point, umbrellas aren’t very useful anymore, are they?
My shoes were soaked in no time, my uniform was plastered to my skin thanks to the sideways rain, and I just felt miserable all over.
I managed to avoid being late, but my blouse and skirt clung to me uncomfortably, and my wet clothes turned translucent… letting Shirayanagi-kun see my underwear.
Not that I wanted to be seen, but the lack of any reaction from him? From a girl’s perspective, that’s kind of disappointing, you know?
I mean, if he sees, shouldn’t there be more of a panicked reaction or something? Then again… could it be? Has Shirayanagi-kun grown desensitized to seeing my underwear?
He has, after all, washed them before (long story), and he’s probably caught a glimpse or two at home when I’ve let my guard down…
Wait, has my underwear become just another mundane sight to him?
Still, even if he’s used to it, saying nothing feels wrong. But if he did say something, I’d just end up embarrassed and not know how to react.
Yeah, best to let it slide. Thank you, Shirayanagi-kun, for lending me a towel and being a gentleman about it.
So, I attended classes while still damp, but honestly, I was too worried about whether Shirayanagi-kun thought I smelled musty to focus properly.
If he’d whipped out two bottles of Febreze and gone “shh-shh” at me, I might’ve been emotionally scarred enough to leave early. Thankfully, he didn’t go that far.
I have no idea what he really thought, but since I see Shirayanagi-kun as the kind of person who speaks his mind without holding back, I figure I was safe—if he didn’t say it outright, I was probably fine.
I wasn’t about to confirm it, though. Too scary.
Somehow, I made it through the day, but maybe because of the rain chilling my body, my nose started itching halfway through, and I couldn’t stop sneezing.
I used up all my pocket tissues, but, as expected of the ultra-prepared Shirayanagi-kun, he had some on hand and lent me a pack. That helped me survive until the end of the day.
It must’ve been hard for him to watch me like that, though, because he said he’d make me some warm soup when we got home.
Hearing that, how could I not want to hurry back?
I rushed Shirayanagi-kun to get ready to leave, and we headed to the entrance.
With the rain still coming down, umbrellas were obviously a must.
I didn’t want to get wet again, so I scoured the area where I’d left mine… but my umbrella was nowhere to be found.
This is a serious problem.
Shirayanagi-kun calls it “borrowing without returning,” but… is that really what happened?
Given this weather, I can kind of understand the temptation to use someone else’s umbrella if you don’t have one. Still, mine is pretty generic—there are tons of similar ones around. So, I’d like to think it’s just a mix-up.
If it is actual umbrella theft, though, I’m not letting it slide.
I just want to get home as soon as possible, drink the delicious soup Shirayanagi-kun promised to make, and warm up my body. But this… this is the hand I’ve been dealt.
The rain may not be as strong as it was in the morning, but it’s still coming down. Charging out into it without an umbrella would be a reckless move.
So, my options are to borrow an umbrella or share one.
When I looked at Shirayanagi-kun’s umbrella, I figured it was probably big enough for the two of us.
I may have silently begged him with my eyes, making him suggest it instead, but in the end, he let me share his umbrella. Mission accomplished!
Still, sharing a single umbrella means our shoulders inevitably got wet.
Noticing that, Shirayanagi-kun told me to move closer to him.
See? It’s things like this…!
Even the way he adjusts his pace to match mine, ensuring I don’t get left behind and soaked—it’s such a subtle but thoughtful gesture.
He can be a bit nitpicky and strict at times, but Shirayanagi-kun really is kind.
Today’s been a rough day.
I got drenched in the morning, lost my umbrella in the afternoon—it’s been one misfortune after another. Or so I thought.
But with something like this happening, maybe rainy days aren’t so bad after all.
Not that I’d ever let Shirayanagi-kun know I’m thinking that.
When I realized what was on my mind, my face started to feel warm… but it’s probably just the chilly air making me flush.
I can’t wait to get home and drink the soup Shirayanagi-kun is going to make.
And dinner tonight—I’m looking forward to that too.
I wonder what he’s planning to cook?
