Chapter 05: The Fairy’s Relentless Attack
Several days had passed since I discovered the true nature of the so-called Fairy.
From that day on, Yukina Kazama’s assault began.
It was ruthless—so relentless that calling it an all-out attack wouldn’t be an exaggeration.
Let me give you a few examples.
It started during class. A small eraser rolled under my desk.
“Oops, sorry! I dropped my eraser.”
“Got it.”
As a gentleman, there was no way I could just ignore it.
I ducked under the desk to retrieve the eraser. Just as I completed my mission and was about to return to my seat, Kazama shifted her legs.
Her skirt fluttered slightly—just enough to give me a glimpse of what was underneath.
“…”
In other words, a classic lucky pervert moment.
I was momentarily grateful for the unexpected blessing from the heavens, but before I could get carried away, the teacher’s voice brought me back to reality. I quickly handed the eraser back to Kazama, making sure not to let any of my thoughts show on my face. A true gentleman stays composed.
“Here you go.”
“Thanks, Kanbara-kun.”
Kazama accepted the eraser, gently wrapping both of her hands around mine as she expressed her gratitude.
The soft warmth of her hands startled me for a moment.
“That’s so sweet of you to pick it up for me.”
“T-That’s just basic courtesy.”
“No way! You really saved me.”
After a brief pause, Kazama slowly released my hand. Then, flashing a slightly mischievous smile—
“…Did you see?”
“W-What are you talking about?!”
“Fufu, your face is all red.”
That was when I finally realized it.
The way she moved her legs—it wasn’t some accidental blessing from the heavens.
It was an attack. A calculated move to make me fall for her.
It was a trap all along.
At the time, I managed to keep my composure by thinking of my beloved in-game wife.
But that was just the beginning.
In another class, she launched an even more powerful attack.
“Ah, shoot. I forgot my textbook. Mind if I share yours?”
“Yeah, sure.”
Kazama scooted her desk right up against mine.
“Thanks! I do this a lot—I’m such a klutz.”
“Don’t worry about it. I forget things too sometimes.”
“See? We’re practically the same.”
“No, I think everyone forgets their stuff now and then.”
Forgetting a textbook wasn’t a big deal—I barely gave it a second thought.
But then—Kazama didn’t just move her desk closer.
She pressed her body against me too.
She was so close that when I turned the page, my hand brushed against her chest.
No—there was no way that was an accident.
She had timed it perfectly.
“Jeez, Kanbara-kun, you perv.”
“S-Sorry!”
Like hell this was my fault.
She was the one who closed the distance!
But I couldn’t exactly say that, so all I could do was flail around in a panic, desperately apologizing.
Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.
Kazama placed a hand over her chest and gave me a sulky glare.
“…You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”
“I didn’t! It was an accident!”
“Really?”
“Really!”
I completely forgot that we were still in class and ended up raising my voice.
Because of that, my classmates turned to stare at me, and I found myself in an awkward situation.
Feeling a bit resentful, I glanced at Kazama—only to see her laughing like she was having the time of her life.
“Looks like everyone just caught us flirting~”
…What the hell was she saying?
If I hadn’t already seen her true nature, I might have actually gotten flustered, thinking we were sharing some kind of secret moment.
At that moment, I distracted myself by thinking about my favorite Vtuber’s upcoming stream.
Kazama’s direct attacks—like body contact—were frequent.
But sometimes, she switched things up and came at me from a different angle.
“Kanbara-kun, your handwriting is really neat.”
“My parents were strict about it.”
“I think people with nice handwriting are cool. It makes them seem smart.”
“Well, I guess that kinda makes sense.”
It was just a common impression, but yeah—people with neat handwriting did give off the vibe of being intelligent.
“Kanbara-kun, you might seem like a background character, but you actually have pretty high specs. You’re smart, your conversations are interesting, and you’re even good at sports, right? Acting all low-key while secretly being high-spec… that’s totally protagonist material.”
That comment completely threw me off.
Unfortunately, my intelligence was nothing special—just slightly above average at best. My athletic skills were also pretty normal. And as for my conversation skills? Half the time, I was just rambling about anime. No way anyone could find that genuinely entertaining.
Yet this girl—the same one who called me Mob-kun and looked down on me—was now spouting blatant lies with a straight face.
If I didn’t already know her true nature, I might have actually fallen for it.
She was terrifying.
Her attacks only grew more intense with each passing day.
Even knowing she was doing this on purpose, I couldn’t just push her away.
Kazama was my target, after all. If I rejected her too harshly, she might distance herself. And if that happened, I’d have to start over from scratch with another Princess.
That would be a total disaster.
So, I endured.
Day after day, I took her attacks head-on—knowing they were filled with bad intentions, knowing her words were all lies.
Mentally, it was exhausting.
But then, I had a thought.
Ayane never said I actually had to date one of the Princesses.
As long as we looked close enough for people to start speculating, that was enough.
And looking around, my classmates definitely saw us getting along.
…Wasn’t that mission accomplished?
For a brief moment, I considered the possibility.
But nope. Not even close.
Because for Kazama, this level of skinship was just normal.
No one batted an eye. Looking back, she had always been like this with the guys sitting next to her.
In the end, nothing changed.
I was completely stuck.
◇
“…”
And so, the past few days had gone by like this.
Once again, I had been subjected to unnecessary body contact and showered with exaggerated compliments that she probably didn’t even believe herself.
Now that school was over, I slumped over my desk, completely drained.
I used to think that knowing her true nature would make it easier to endure.
Yeah. Past me was a fool.
But seriously—is this normal?!
At first, I thought she was just messing around, playing some ridiculous game.
But the more I observed her, the more I realized—Kazama had a kind of obsessive determination.
It was as if she had made up her mind to make me fall for her no matter what.
…Was there a way to use that against her?
I asked myself, but no answer came.
The only thing I knew for sure—this couldn’t turn into a long-term battle.
Not just for my own sanity, but also because once the next seat shuffle happened, we might not be sitting near each other anymore.
I had to settle things while I still had the chance.
Kazama seemed hell-bent on “capturing” me, but I had no idea how persistent she actually was.
I needed something—a turning point.
Something to break through this stalemate.
“Kanbara-kun~”
Just as most of the students had already left for the day, Kazama called out to me.
“What is it?”
“If you’re free, wanna walk home together?”
“With me?”
“Yeah. I wanna talk with you more.”
A potential turning point had just appeared.
