- When I Start Changing My Character's Scumbag Status, Strange Things Started Happening To Me
- 15 - The Red Haired Girl’s Assistant (Part 1)
“Should I wait for her to come here?”
Here I am, waiting in the city station. I was expecting that it’ll get crowded since it’s a work day, but surprisingly, there’s only a few people as far as I can see. It’s way pass the rush hour, which usually occurs at 8 to 9 in the morning.
As I was about to have a good night sleep last night, a sudden message from Emiko arrived, saying:
I know you don’t have Akari’s contact, but I already texted her that you’ll meet there in the city station after the rush hour. Please take care of our treasurer for me okay?
“It’s been an hour already, and I still didn’t see her.” I’ve arrived here earlier than what Emiko told me, which she says that I must be in the station at 9:30 AM.
“Still haven’t seen the red haired girl.”
Maybe she forgot to turn on her alarm and she wake up really late. That would really be bad.
“Well, it’s not like I have anything important to do after this right?”
poke
“Yep, nothing else to do than just goofing around.”
poke poke
“Ah, right, I forgot. I still need to find a part-time job.”
poke poke poke
“Who in the world would poke me–”
I take a look at who was poking me, a noticeably red-haired girl can be seen. It none other than—
“Fu-Fukumoto-san?? Since when—”
“I just got here, you idiot. Damn, I forgot to set my alarm last night.”
Sheesh, talk about having a poisonous tongue.
I take a moment to look at Akari wears. She wears our school’s uniform, which consists of light gray blazer with white blouse underneath and a blue ribbon tie around her neck, paired with black skirt that’s a bit above her knees.
When identifying what years does a student studies, you can easily identify it by the color of their neck ties. Green for first years, blue for the second years and lastly, red for the third years.
If you’re asking on what I wear, I’m also wearing my school uniform. Emiko told me to wear this, but I don’t know why. Couldn’t we just wear whatever we want?
“What are you looking at?” she looks at me with annoyed looking expression.
“Nothing. I was just thinking that seeing you with your uniform up close, I think you look pretty good.”
Seemingly caught off guard by what I said, she turns back opposite to me, with a hint of redness behind her ears.
“Hmph, flattery won’t get you anywhere. Even with Emiko seemingly trust you so easily, I don’t easily trust someone with a face of a scumbag.”
“Yeah, yeah, save your insults later when we finish the task Emiko gave you.”
“Hmphh.” she then walks out towards the exit of the station, I also followed her to where she is. This is going to be one heck of a long day.
A few hours has passed
“Phew. The task is almost finished. Before we knew it, it’s already noon.”
We decided to take a break after all of those task that we did in the morning. We’re at a rather small cafe with people that can be counted by your hands.
The task for today is almost done. First, we went to visit the hardware store, to which we looked around the store to look for the prices of the materials that Emiko listed. Even with the attitude that she shows to me this morning, she’s pretty serious at doing her job.
After the hardware store, we went to a clothing store, which we asked on the prices of the cloth they have per meter. I’m guessing it’s for the class that requested it to the Student Council. Maybe they needed it to write it down a ‘banner’ for their festival activities.
“And the last thing we need to do right now is to go to the appliance store.” says the girl sitting in front of me. “So, what do you think about the prices we’ve gathered so far?” Akari’s voice broke through my thoughts, her gaze fixed on the notepad in front of us. Weird that she’s asking something from me, I thought.
I glanced over the neatly organized list, nodding in approval. “I think we’ve got a pretty good range to work with. It’s definitely going to help Emiko reduce her mountainous work.” What I do as her assistant is to jot down the prices of the listed materials in her notepad. I thought I was going to do something complex, but the task is surprisingly simple.
“Good. It’s crucial to ensure we’re not overspending, especially with the limited budget we have.” Akari nodded at my reply.
As we waited for our orders to arrive, I take a quick look at the cafe we’re staying. Even though it’s a bit small, the café is bustled with activity. It’s a sign that the business here is pretty healthy.
“So, how’s your search for a part-time job going?” Akari’s question caught me off guard, pulling me back to the present moment.
“I think you need to take your medicine, Fukumoto-san.”
“W-What’s wrong with asking someone a question?”
“I have some medicines for headaches and common cold. Pick one.”
“I am so going to punch your face right now.”
“Thank you for waiting. Here is your order~”
As we were having a nonsense conversation, our order has finally arrived. Mine is consist of your classic lasagna with a small garlic bread on the side, paired with an espresso coffee as my drink. Weird combination, I know. As for my acquaintance here…
“A strawberry sliced cake, a strawberry ice cream, and a strawberry smoothie. Huh, so you like strawberry flavored stuffs, aren’t you, Fukumoto-san?” I asked as she was taking a picture of the food that’s in front of her.
“What’s wrong with girls eating what they like?”
Aren’t girls mostly concerned with their weight if they ate too much? I was about to say it but then decided to not to, as it might be a sensitive topic to her.
“You still haven’t answered my previous question, dummy.”
“Please stop calling me that. And yes, I’m still looking for one, but to no luck.”
“Huh, is that so.” she then continues to enjoy the food that she ordered. What’s the point in asking that question in the first place?
And then the task continues on.
