- Chap 37.1: Will Visits the Knight Training School
Will was visiting the Knight Training School, where many nobles attend, for a tour.
While Will is an adventurer, he’s not exactly someone who should be attending a knight’s school. However, the reason for his presence here was due to Alfred.
“Will, since you’re here, how about looking at my school?”
Alfred saw potential in Will and often offered him various privileges.
(Thinking: I came here just because Alfred asked me to… The school is enormous. Of course, there are commoners here, but it’s primarily a school for nobles, so I guess it’s expected.)
(Thinking: A school to train knights to oppose threats like the Demon King and other dangers to humanity. Alfred said one of the school’s aims is to produce individuals as influential as heroes.)
(Thinking: If I could study here, it would be a great opportunity. I’m also aiming to be a hero. I heard that even the Hero Dan occasionally comes as a part-time lecturer.)
As Will entered the premises, he began his tour. Right on cue, Alfred was waiting for him.
“Will, I’ve been waiting for you.”
“Alfred!”
“I’ll give you a tour around the campus.”
“Thanks!”
“Just wait a moment.”
“Eh?”
“There’s one more person I’m thinking of guiding around.”
“Who?”
“His name is Ban, if I recall correctly. I met him the other day, so I invited him.”
(Thinking: Now that I think about it, I remember Ban was reading ancient civilization scripts. Maybe Alfred took an interest in him. I wonder if Ban is a scholar of sorts.)
■■
A few days ago, I happened to run into Alfred. He invited me for a tour of the Knight Training School, but I’ve visited there a few times as a part-time lecturer.
Well, it might be an excellent break to visit without my mask for once. The atmosphere would be different from what I’m used to.
However, I plan to teach there as Hero Dan, so I must be careful and make the switch seamlessly.
“Mr. Ban.”
“So, Will was also invited?”
“If we’re all here, let’s get going.”
It seems Will and Alfred were waiting. I remember meeting this group not too long ago. As we entered the school premises, many students stared intently at us.
“We’re getting a lot of attention.”
“Yeah, seems so.”
We’re not wearing the school uniforms, and being with Alfred, a descendant of a hero, we probably stand out quite a bit.
“Will and Ban. The training inside the school is pretty strict. Students are classified from A to D based on their abilities.”
“Oh? Alfred, are you in Class A?”
“Of course.”
“Amazing!”
“I see a lot of potential in you too, Will.”
“R-really? By the way, Eugene goes here too, right?”
Yeah, Eugene did mention that he attends this school. We meet during training, but we don’t usually chit-chat.
“Yes, he’s in Class A. He started in Class D but quickly climbed up.”
“Eugene is impressive, too, huh.”
“But basically, he doesn’t attend classes. That’s why he eventually fell back to Class D.”
“Oh, I see. Eugene loves Hero Dan, so he’s mostly acting as an adventurer.”
“That’s part of it. But his family has a lot of complications. Eugene has a complex background.”
“Come to think of it, he might’ve mentioned something like that.”
It seems Eugene was said to have no talent. Being from a renowned noble family probably adds to the complications.
“Ah, Ban-kun, was it?”
“Yes?”
Sakura was there, dressed in a neat teacher-like uniform. That she addressed me probably means she remembers meeting me at the Warrior Tournament not long ago.
“Sakura-san.”
“What brings you here? You’re not a student here, right?”
“Alfred invited me for a tour… Oh, he seems to be somewhere with Will.”
It looked like Alfred was particularly fond of Will and had forgotten about me while giving him a school tour.
“Oh, Alfred, right? I think I heard there’d be visitors today. But, you got left behind.”
“It seems so.”
“… Would you like me to show you around?”
“Huh?”
“I can’t just leave you here.”
“Oh, okay then. Please do.”
“Alright.” (This guy was solid when he defeated the fake hero. He’s an acquaintance of Rin-chan, so he can’t be wrong… I think. And I have this feeling I’ve met him somewhere before. But it’s strange for someone so powerful to be unknown. Maybe if I talk to him, I’ll figure something out.)
I’ve occasionally chatted with Sakura in a teacher capacity, so it’s not a big deal. Since I have free time, I might as well look around.
“This is a classroom.”
“Wow, it’s spacious.”
I already knew that.
“This is the armory.”
“Interesting.”
I knew that, though I didn’t say it out loud.
“This is the arena.”
“I know.”
“Huh?”
“Ah, it’s my first time here.”
I inadvertently let my inner thoughts slip out. That was close. I don’t visit arenas often. I’ve heard they conduct mock battles here.
“How about trying it out? Want to spar with me?”
“You’re from the legendary hero’s party, after all.”
“It’s okay.”
Sakura seemed quite eager, tossing a wooden sword to me. I caught it. With this enthusiasm, I guess I have no choice but to play along.
I casually held up the wooden sword.
