- Chap 14.2: Arrival, Combat, Explosion, The Four Heavenly Kings
(He’s fast!)
Alfred took off in front of Will at an incredible speed. His back gradually faded into the distance, and even though Will desperately tried to keep up, his stamina was quickly depleting. He felt as if he would be completely exhausted before they even reached the troubled area.
(He’s running so fast, but his speed isn’t dropping, and his breathing isn’t even labored!)
Will couldn’t hide his astonishment at the towering figure before his eyes. He was always in the presence of the entity known as Hero Dan. However, Dan was too high above, a celestial existence, and Will had unconsciously rejected the act of comparing himself to him.
However, confronted with Alfred, who was the exact same age as him, Will found himself comparing himself with another person. And he felt despair towards the even greater existence.
Diamond, Eugene, and even he, they were all aware that there are always people better than themselves, and they all felt acutely that they were weak and lacking in every aspect.
In a world where no matter how hard you run, there are countless superior beings. And the fact that there are also beings that exceed his own expectations…
“They’re demons…”
“Indeed, I am Lize. From now on, I will serve as the spokesman for the new Curse King who will rule the world.”
In front of them, hundreds of demons were spreading out. Alfred stared at the being standing in front of this massive crowd. That’s because he was convinced that this massive muscular being was the leader of this group.
“A spokesman… And a new Curse King at that. You mean to say you’re a descendant of the King Daidaros?”
“Indeed, I am the one who inherits the will of the once King Daidaros.”
“Then there’s only one thing for me to do.”
Alfred unsheathed the sword at his waist and pointed its tip. He pointed a regular iron sword, not the Sword of the Beginning, at them and activated his magic.
“Bearing Thunder, Star Thunder’s Strength!”
Electricity burst from the tip of Alfred’s sword, sparking as it went. Instead of striking from above, he stuck the sword into the ground, causing the lightning to ascend to the sky.
Suddenly, he immobilized hundreds of demons at once. He couldn’t incinerate and kill them all in an instant, but he was able to paralyze and restrain them on the spot.
“I see, you’re quite capable. However, besides me, all here are just lowly minions.”
“I don’t care for your idle talk. It would be better if you just come at me.”
The muscular demon who introduced himself as Lize swung his powerful arm. As Alfred dodged his fist, it plunged straight into the ground. A booming sound shook the earth, leaving a crater-like indentation.
(His physical strength seems to surpass mine.)
As a descendant of the hero, Alfred was still developing and could not create a crater by simply punching the ground with his bare hand. Therefore, he was hesitant to engage in a strength-centered combat.
The difference in power was clear. After all, Lize, being nearly two meters tall, had a reach longer than Alfred’s. His arms were even harder than iron.
(To invoke magic without chanting is impressive, but he’s no match for me.)
Once again, Lize’s fist aimed for an instant kill, and Alfred blocked it with his electrified sword. The surrounding area echoed with a grinding metallic sound.
(Fool, if he repeats that over and over, my fist will simply break his blade.)
Alfred quickly scanned the surroundings to assess the situation. Were there any demons who escaped from this place? Was Will, who had come with him, uninjured? After confirming this, he repeatedly aimed his sword at Lize, slashing and blocking the incoming fists.
“Your swordsmanship is remarkable, but it won’t defeat me.”
“Heh, at least you admit that. Your physical capabilities seem to far exceed mine.”
“That’s only natural. There’s no way I, superior, would lose to a lesser species like humans.”
“Is that so? But the game will be over soon.”
“What?”
“Discharge Release.”
“What–?!”
With a snap of his fingers, Alfred signaled, and a small-scale discharge occurred from Lize, the demon, and the surrounding demons.
“My magic, Star Thunder Strain, not only causes paralysis by striking opponents with electricity, but also has the characteristic of charging. And… by invoking it once more, I can cause a small-scale explosive wave of lightning.”
“This… I’ve heard of this… a type of fairy magic invented by the second hero, Darwin… could it be…”
“You’re right. There is no mistake in recognizing that I am his descendant. However, I cannot handle this magic well. Ideally, it could cause a much larger explosion.”
“Why… why was the explosion bigger for me…? The other demons didn’t have an explosion as big as mine…”
“No matter how you look at it, you were on a different level than the other demons. So, I hit you over and over again with my electrified blade, causing a disproportionate explosion just for you.”
(So, that’s how it was!?)
Only now did Lize realize. The attacks he could have dodged, he chose to parry with his sword to increase the charging by connecting the blade with his body. Once a certain level was reached, Alfred executed a sweep.
Thanks to this, all the other demons except for Lize had already fallen.
“I see, that’s impressive indeed. That magic is… truly worthy of a hero’s descendant. However, I’m also somewhat disappointed if this is all it amounts to…”
“Sounds like sour grapes to me.”
“I am not so fallen as to resort to such things at this juncture. But it’s true. Nearby, there is the highest demon who has served since the time of the former Curse King. And the current Four Heavenly Kings, the Muscle King, King Barder.”
“…What did you say?”
“Compared to his power, this is nothing more than a gentle breeze. Kukuku, hahaha…”
Alfred had never imagined that one of the Four Heavenly Kings was approaching. Will, who had simply been watching, was also flabbergasted.
(The Four Heavenly Kings…!? They hardly ever appear these days… The peace that we’ve been building up in this world…)
