I, Reina Ruinveil, thanks to my conscious effort to maintain a regular lifestyle, rarely woke up in the night after falling asleep.

This remained unchanged even after I came to reside in the mansion owned by Wraith Heavile, in exchange for receiving the panacea for my younger sister. 

I would usually finish my dinner, complete any necessary tasks, then head to the bed during night, sleeping soundly until early morning, when I would begin my training.

This was my normal daily routine.

However, one day, I was woken up in the middle of the night by an excessive noise.

“…What’s happening?”

Opening the door and stepping outside, the first thing I noticed were the red stains on the ground. They hadn’t been there when I returned from the academy in the evening, so they must have been made during the recent battle.

“Please leave this to us.”

Liberis said so and began cleaning up the stains on the ground. 

We went outside the wall surrounding the mansion.

“This is…”

What came into view were more of the same red stains and the figures of knights and mages lying collapsed on the ground. Moreover, their armor and robes bore the insignia of the Empire.

“A-Are you alright!? Why are the knights and mages from the Imperial army here…!?”

“Those are the attackers.”

“—Huh?”

As I reeled from Karma’s words, they efficiently incinerated the bodies of the knights and mages with magic.

Why did the Empire’s knights and mages attack Wraith Heavile? 

Moreover, as far as my eyes could see, similar figures lay collapsed on the ground. 

Such a large number of people just to eliminate one nobleman’s son.

I couldn’t process it.

“Reina-san, we’ve finished cleaning up this area.”

While I was in a daze, every single figure that had been lying around had disappeared. Had they… erased them?

“We’re heading to the back of the mansion. Will you join us?”

The back of the mansion was in even worse shape than the front. 

It was a world of ice. The ground, the buildings, the people… everything was frozen.

Ice-encased knights and mages could be found everywhere. 

Some were frozen from the core of their bodies and then shattered into pieces.

I heard a faint sound. 

A voice that wasn’t mine or Karma’s or the other maids.

Where?… Where are they?

I looked around and found where the sound came from. 

One of the arms of a knight was moving slightly.

“Are you alright!?”

“…Ugh”

“Don’t talk! I’ll heal you now!”

“…S…aint…ess…please…”

“Saintess…? What does that mean—?”

A knife pierced the knight’s neck and then he was no longer alive.

Looking in the direction the knife had come from, I saw Amaryllis-san.

“Amaryllis! What are you doing!? He was still alive! Why would you kill him—?”

“There is only death for enemies. There are no other exceptions.”

Her sharp gaze, which interrupted my words, was very cold and devoid of any emotion. 

Seeing that lifeless gaze, a chill ran down my spine.

“…!”

“Now, shall we continue cleaning up?”

Amaryllis-san’s cold expression gradually turned normal, and she began to melt the ice. 

I couldn’t say anything in return. I was too scared for that.

Just like that, unable to do anything, I remained sitting silently on the ground. 

Then, a loud crashing sound reached my ears.

“—!”

Turning my gaze in the direction of the sound, I saw a part of the Imperial Castle collapsing.
