When I Reincarnated as the Villain of a Game World, I Created a Harem and Broke the Protagonist's Heart and Efforts! - Chapter 74 : Rejection [1]
Chapter 74 : Rejection [1]
Three days have passed since the priest visited the academy.
During these three days, neither the church nor the empire’s emissaries have contacted us and we’ve been able to spend relatively peaceful days.
However, that doesn’t mean nothing happened.
The most notable example is the gates made for entering and exiting the walls surrounding the Imperial Capital.
These gates are installed in the north, south, east, and west.
Normally, a simple inquiry from a knight allows for easy passage.
Yes, that’s how it is under normal circumstances.
On the evening the priest visited the magic academy, stringent inspections suddenly became necessary to pass through the gates.
The reason was not disclosed; it apparently began abruptly.
At first, the people passing through the gates were confused and resistant, but once they realized that being patient a bit longer than usual during questioning posed no problems, they began to comply with the inspections.
Nowadays, only a minority of people were left confused as to what led to the increased security checks.
The actions clearly reflect the church and empire’s desire to secure the saintess at all costs.
In addition to the gates, there were other minor movements to ensure the saintess could not escape. It was evident that the other side would soon make contact with us.
Just as I was thinking that, a man with a document bearing the crest of the Royal Family visited our mansion.
“Wraith Heaville and the commoner girl Lilia under his protection are ordered to appear at the Imperial Castle.”
◇◇◇◇◇◇
“His Majesty the Emperor awaits you beyond this point.”
In front of a grand double door decorated with solemn embellishments, the knights on either side informed us.
The Audience Chamber.
It’s a place used when the emperor and the accompanying nobles meet outside of parties.
In my fifteen-plus years of life since reincarnating into this world, it’s my first time entering this place.
Naturally, it’s also Lilia’s first time here, as she was born a commoner.
“Are you nervous?”
“No. As long as I am with you, my lord, I am not afraid of anything.”
“Is that so?”
While briefly responding to her words full of trust and love, I turned my gaze to the knights. The knights placed their hands on the door and slowly opened it.
My resolve was already set. All that remained was to trample over them.
I stepped into the audience chamber… At that moment, numerous gazes turned towards us. The emotions within those gazes varied.
In response, I answered by releasing the magical power I usually kept suppressed.
Several high-ranking nobles stood along either side of the central path in the audience chamber.
About a third of them collapsed to their knees, falling to the ground.
Even those barely standing had sweat beading on their foreheads and distorted expressions.
Of course. If I unleash my vast magical power, it becomes indistinguishable from intimidation. Those without power can’t even remain standing.
While keeping my magical power released, I walked forward and stood before the emperor sitting on the throne.
Beside him stood my father, the prime minister.
These two, as expected, showed no change in their demeanor. They are the ones who hold this country together and the one who supports it.
“Wraith Heaville, you are before His Majesty the Emperor, kneel.”
My father, in his position as the prime minister, directed his words at me.
I faced him directly and responded.
“I refuse. I did not come here today as a noble who follows the emperor.”
“Wraith—”
“Enough. That is his answer. But I also have my position. I must state things clearly.”
The emperor, who had admonished my father, turned his gaze towards me.
“It was recently discovered that Lilia, the commoner girl under your protection, is one of the three saintesses, the ‘Saintess of Healing.’ This is confirmed information from the church.”
No one else spoke in the audience chamber.
In that silence, the emperor continued.
“Wraith Heaville… For the sake of our empire, I order you to hand over the saintess Lilia to the empire.”
“I refuse.”
My response came with a spear of black flame aimed at the emperor.

This was too out of the left field
i mean he didn’t even put the notion of conversation first
Yeah, I agree. I mean, while I’m glad that this MC isn’t a pushover or a beta or a dense dunderhead, I don’t really like how he’s mega-aggro in this story. He doesn’t bother with conversation, does whatever he wants, and is unnecessarily choosing conflict when there’s no need to. Especially considering that this is Wraith’s fault to begin with for failing to hide Lilia despite knowing that the Priest was coming to the Academy that day. And now he’s willing to risk his title and comfort, along with the lives of his family, by trying to assassinate the Emperor? It’s CRAZY! 😰
