When I Reincarnated as the Villain of a Game World, I Created a Harem and Broke the Protagonist's Heart and Efforts! - Chapter 61 : Planting a Spy
Chapter 61 : Planting a Spy
“Welcome back, Master.”
When we returned from the Ruinveil county to the mansion in the Imperial Capital, and opened the front door, a maid with lustrous blonde hair greeted us.
“Karma? Thank you for welcoming us.”
The maid, who bowed respectfully at my words, was Karma.
Like Liberis, she is one of the slaves purchased to serve and manage this mansion.
Karma originally worked as a maid in a noble’s mansion in another country. However, she was falsely accused of harming the noble and was reduced to the status of a slave.
After being treated roughly and being passed from place to place as a slave for several years, she eventually ended up in this empire.
During her years as a slave, Karma’s beauty caught the attention of slave traders and buyers, who forced her into degrading tasks. By the time I found her, she was on the verge of being discarded, her body and spirit broken to the point where she couldn’t even speak.
Seeing Karma in that state, I decided to purchase her immediately.
It wasn’t out of sympathy or pity for her situation. It was because Karma’s lack of power led to her fate.
The reason I bought her was because she was perfectly suited to be a pawn for me.
Once a human is completely broken, it’s nearly impossible for them to return to their former state. Being broken means their heart, brain, and intelligence no longer function properly, making even basic survival difficult. Thus, there is no force that strives them to return to their original state.
But what happens if someone restores such a broken individual? The answer is simple.
They become dependent on the one who restored them, as if that person were their very heart.
And Karma became just as I wanted — dependent entirely on me, becoming one of the pawns I desired.
Although it was Lilia, who possesses the power of a saint, had healed Karma. I was the one with the ultimate authority, so Karma depended on me. She now follows my words without any questions.
“Karma, from today, one more person will be living here. Please show them around and make the necessary arrangements.”
“Understood.”
Karma slightly bowed her head to indicate her acknowledgment. She then lifted her head and spoke.
“Master, Liberis returned to the mansion a short while ago.”
“Is that so? Where is she now?”
“In the basement. She is probably waiting for you.”
“Understood. Inform Amaryllis to come to the basement.”
“Understood.”
After giving additional orders to Karma, I turned my gaze to Lilia and the others before heading to the basement.
“Lilia, I am going to the basement now. Please relax in the living room.”
“Yes, Master.”
It seemed Lilia correctly understood my words. With this, there would be no disturbances in the basement.
I turned my back to Lilia and headed to the basement.
☆☆☆☆☆☆
The basement was dark and damp, with the air feeling heavy. The only light was a small flame from a single candle.
In the center of this gloomy space, a man was bound to an armchair. He wore nothing but underwear, and his mouth was gagged with a thick rope, preventing him from speaking.
“I have been waiting for you, Master.”
“Is this the man?”
“Most likely. He was wearing a black robe and using stealth magic within the academy, so we captured him. We continued to monitor the academy but found no other intruders besides him.”
“I see.”
Listening to Liberis’s report as she emerged from the shadows, I approached the man.
His eyes were closed, as if he were asleep.
“Wake up.”
“—Mmmph? Mmmph!”
I conjured flames with magic and pressed them against the man’s body. He woke up from the heat and pain, but I did not extinguish the flames, continuing to press them against him.
“Mmmph! Mmmph!”
The sound of burning flesh and the unpleasant odor filled the room but I still continued.
After a while, I decided to extinguish the flames, thinking that the smell might reach the rest of the mansion. The man groaned in pain from the residual heat.
As I silently watched him, I heard the sound of footsteps echoing in the basement.
Since Liberis hadn’t moved since I arrived, these footsteps must belong to someone else.
When I turned around, a woman wearing the same maid uniform as Liberis and Karma, with fox ears sprouting from her head, came into view.
The woman bowed slightly and spoke.
“I have arrived, Master.”
Amaryllis.
This was the name of the fox-eared woman standing behind me.
Like Liberis and Karma, Amaryllis is also a slave I purchased. Her fox ears and tail, visible beneath her maid skirt, reveal that she belongs to a special race of beastmen from the Demon Fox tribe.
The Demon Fox tribe are a race skilled in transformation and illusion magic, making them far more powerful than other races.
This is why I purchased Amaryllis.
Unlike Liberis and Karma, Amaryllis’s loyalty to me isn’t based on gratitude or mental manipulation but on her own volition. Although I don’t know the reason, her loyalty is genuine, so I consider her a valuable pawn.
Amaryllis approached and stood beside me.
“The fact that you called me here means that you need the power of the demon fox tribe, right?”
“That’s right. First, absorb this man’s memories.”
“Understood.”
Amaryllis slowly raised her hand and placed it on the man’s head as he continued to groan from the pain.
“[Memory Absorption]”
“Mmmph! Mmmph! Arghhh!”
The man’s body jerked violently as he screamed wordlessly.
The spell, Memory Absorption, causes significant mental anguish if excessive mana is used during activation.
Judging by the man’s reaction, Amaryllis must have done just that. A well-crafted pawn indeed.
“Master, are you satisfied?”
Amaryllis asked, turning back to me with a faint smile.
“Yes, well done.”
“I am honored.”
“Now, tell me the information you extracted from him.”
“Yes.”
Amaryllis conveyed three main pieces of information.
The first was about the organization to which the man belonged — “Gathering of Broken Empire”.
This group consists of those dissatisfied with the current feudal system, including people who resent the luxury of nobles and the resulting disparities between nobles and commoners. They aim to abolish the feudal system by killing the emperor, the royal family, and the nobles, and then rebuilding the empire from scratch.
I already knew this information from my previous life, so it wasn’t surprising.
The second piece of information concerned an informant within the academy connected to this organization. This was somewhat surprising yet made sense.
The informant within the academy was Mikhail Warclain, my S-Class homeroom teacher.
Despite his strong sense of justice, Mikhail being an informant for the “Gathering of Broken Empire” was unexpected.
This revelation also explained his odd behavior around me after the incident in the principal’s office.
Normally, someone threatened by a person of great power would be terrified and unable to maintain composure. Yet, Mikhail only averted his gaze when he saw me, without showing any other signs of fear, which I had found peculiar.
Knowing he was an informant made sense — he was constantly anxious about his connection to the organization being discovered.
The third piece of information was about why the organization infiltrated the academy. The reason was straightforward — to recruit more members.
The academy, where commoners and nobles coexist, is fertile ground for finding people who are dissatisfied with the nobles and sympathetic to the organization’s cause.
That’s why they periodically sent people to the academy to scout for potential recruits, even establishing informants.
“How irritating.”
Such activities within the academy where I spend my days are nothing but unpleasant.
I will crush them completely.
“Amaryllis.”
“Yes?”
“Have you extracted all the information from this man?”
“Of course. I know everything about his past, thoughts, and even preferences.”
“Good. Then, disguise yourself as him and infiltrate the organization.”
Amaryllis smiled broadly at my words.
“That sounds delightful.”
“Doesn’t it? Your job is to feed me information and—”
“Deceive them with false information, making the organization dance in the palm of your hand, correct?”
“You understand me very well.”
A villainous smile spread across my face.
Ah… how thrilling.
To see how the organization will act upon the manipulated information from just one person. It will be incredibly amusing.
“I will infiltrate the ‘Gathering of Broken Empire’ immediately.”
“Go ahead.”
“Excuse me then, master.”
Amaryllis bowed one last time and vanished. Left behind were Liberis, the bound man, and myself.
I raised my hand towards the man and slashed it sideways.
Instantly, the man’s head fell from his body to the ground.
“Dispose of this.”
“Understood.”
I ordered Liberis to clean up and left the basement.
As I ascended towards the ground floor, a villainous smile remained on my face.

Ah, so Teacher’s a traitor. Explains his actions in the previous chapters. And I love how MC is collecting OP waifus like a gacha-maniac.
Also, “Gathering of Broken Empire”? Can’t they come up with a less cringey organization name? 😬
