Chapter 55 : After the Incident
The news of Headmaster Dalphus’s death, along with the collapse of his room, spreaded throughout the academy on the same day.
It seems that the homeroom teacher has protected my identity, and within the academy, the story is circulating that the incident occurred due to a malfunction of the magical tools placed in the headmaster’s room.
Of course, my name has not been revealed at all.
The Magic Academy promptly handled this matter and canceled classes for the day to recheck the condition of all magical tools within the academy.
As the students dispersed to their respective dormitories and residences, the academy became deserted. Teachers and magical tool experts are likely running around in the academy during this time.
Since members of the royal family attend the Magic Academy, there might be some involvement from the imperial family.
“Hahaha.”
An event that was not in the original work.
Regardless of the size of the event, the fact that I caused it with my own hands fills me with a smile.
It’s proof that my power is steadily growing.
“You seem happy, Master.”
“Yes. I am in unusually high spirits.”
Lilia and Lulua, sitting on either side of me on the sofa, speak these words.
“Does it look that way?”
“Yes.”
“Did something good happen?”
While tilting her head, Lulua asks.
It’s a very cute gesture, but I can’t say it out loud.
Even if I say it, she probably won’t understand.
“Well, who knows?”
Three days have passed since the day I blew away Dalphus.
Finally, it seems that the Dalphus incident has been resolved, and an announcement came from the academy that classes would resume.
It settled more quickly than I thought. As I finished preparing and headed towards the academy, I parted ways with Lilia and Lulua, who have separate classes.
Walking through the corridors towards my classroom within the academy’s premises, I suddenly thought,
Come to think of it, this is the first time I’m entering the classroom since that duel. The day after the duel, I was summoned by Dalphus, and after blowing him away, I returned with Lilia and Lulua, and the academy had no classes for three days.
Entering the classroom for the first time in four days, I reach it while pondering over such things.
Opening the door and entering, all eyes in the classroom turn towards me.
The emotions in those gazes are stronger than the ones directed at me at the gate three days ago.
Probably because, on that day, the protagonist challenged me to a duel in the classroom, and many witnessed my strength directly. So, they understand the difference in our abilities and, at the same time, fear the protagonist’s lack of mercy, as we are in the same class and often share the same space.
How fragile they are.
But, putting that aside, these gazes are annoying.
“Why are you all staring so much? Do you all want to be like him?”
All gazes averted at once.
Just a slight glare, and they turn away easily; they shouldn’t have stared in the first place.
After exhaling lightly, I move my feet again and head towards the backmost seat.
Without saying anything, Serena also moves to the waiting area for servants.
As I move to the back seat, I notice that Corrid, the second son of the Lesser Marquis House, is sitting in the same place as on the day of the entrance ceremony.
Unlike the others around him, Corrid doesn’t seem to consciously avert his gaze from me out of fear. Instead, he appears to be concentrating on something and, as a result, seems unaware of my presence.
Approaching, I see that Corrid has a magical item in his hands.
Peeking at the open page, I find it contains the magic circle and its explanation that we are supposed to learn at the Magic Academy.
It seems like he’s doing some preparatory reading.
“Diligent, aren’t you?”
“Hmm? Ah, it’s Wraith-sama. I apologize for not greeting you.”
Corrid stands up in a hurry and bows his head to me. I can’t discern any emotions in his attitude like the others in the classroom.
“You aren’t afraid of me.”
“Huh?”
“While others fear me completely after the incident of the duel the other day and give me irritating glances, you remain unchanged. Why is that?”
As I ask, Corrid widens his eyes, then turns them serious, staring directly into mine.
And then, while gazing straight into my eyes, he speaks.
“My father and elder brother, the legitimate heir, judge others based on superficial factors such as appearance, abilities, rumors, or whether they can be beneficial to them. Therefore, they are people who do not look beyond the surface. I’ve seen many innocent people suffer because of my father and brother from a young age. Every time, I harbored anger towards myself for not being able to help those people.”
Corrid’s expression distorts.
He seems to be recalling something from the past.
“That’s why I’ve made it a point to develop the ability to save such people and to see deep into the hearts of others, so I won’t become like my father and brother, causing unhappiness to people based on superficial judgments.”
“So, you’re not afraid of me.”
“Yes. Because I know that Wraith-sama is not someone who uses his power just to show off. There must have been a proper reason for that duel as well.”
“I see…”
I might have a long association with Corrid in the future.
