Chapter 4: Princess and teammates (as planned) Part 1.
Out of place, really uncomfortable. That’s how I’d describe myself in the student council room, and I let out a quiet sigh.
“Thank you all for gathering. This will be our first meeting, and we will be managing the student council executive board with this team for this term. I look forward to working with you.”
Katsuragi Minami spoke in a monotone voice and bowed her head slightly.
Seated at the U-shaped table in the student council room were Katsuragi Minami at the chairman’s seat by the window, two female students at the table to the left, and two male students, including myself, at the table to the right.
It appears that these five individuals are the student council officers for this term.
“Other than Vice President Saeki, the rest of you have been appointed by me, so I believe you are not familiar with each other. Therefore, today we will first start with self-introductions.”
Katsuragi Minami slowly looked around the room. As our eyes almost met, I averted my gaze immediately.
“Let me start first. I am Katsuragi Minami, the acting student council president. While there may be many areas where I am lacking, I am committed on making this school a better place. Thank you.”
Katsuragi Minami made a grandiose speech and bowed her head again.
And with that, loud applause erupted from beside me. A large male student was clapping with a broad smile on his face.
I was slightly surprised, but I didn’t want to seem unfriendly, so I clapped lightly as well. The two female students followed suit as well.
“Thank you. Well then, next, the vice president, please go ahead.”
Katsuragi Minami passed the baton. I guessed the secretary would be next after that.
A sense of anxiety started to grow in me.
(I want to go home.)
I had initially tried to see this as an opportunity to understand her better, but in reality, I still found unpleasant things as unpleasant and bothersome things as bothersome.
But backing out now would be quite problematic, and it will ruin my reputation as well. I had no choice but to endure this.
“I’m Saeki Nozomi, and I’ll be serving as the vice president. Nice to meet you.”
The girl diagonally to my right gave a curt introduction. The boy next to me applauded, prompting everyone else to join in.
She was the only one among us elected as the vice president through the election, rather than being appointed by Katsuragi Minami.
Saeki had a striking appearance. Her wavy chestnut hair and sharp, determined eyes made her stand out more than other the average student. Even during her election speech, she spoke quite confidently as well, so it’s to no surprise that she garnered that amount of support.
But as one may guess, she doesn’t quite measure up to what Katsuragi Minami is. Not to demean her in any way, but that’s just how exceptional Katsuragi Minami is in both looks and ability.
Also, their respective positions feel just right. I don’t know their personal thoughts about it per se, but they certainly look as how a fellow president and vice president duo would look like.
(But she does seem pretty grumpy, doesn’t she?)
Right now, Saeki was now sitting with a sullen expression on her face, with her arms crossed. Although during her speech, she seemed quite friendly and approachable.
If she was only acting to leave a good impression, it’s one thing, but if her real personality is the complete opposite, she would be quite difficult to handle.
Katsuragi Minami turned her attention to the girl next to Saeki.
“Next, the treasurer, please.”
“Hy-Yes.”
The girl who was called out responded in a high-pitched voice. She seemed to be the treasurer.
The short-haired girl was looking down, causing her bangs to obscure her eyes.
“Umm, I go by … Hoshino… u. I will be in your care.”
She mumbled in such a low voice that I didn’t even hear it well.
“Wait, I didn’t hear that well. Could you say it again?”
The boy next to me urged her with a smile. His voice was so loud that it startled Hoshino as well.
This boy seemed to be loud in both voice and actions.
“it’s Hoshino… zu…”
“Speak up louder. We still can’t hear you.”
Saeki pointed out irritably, causing Hoshino’s shoulders to shrink further.
I agree with Saeki, but her approach only made Hoshino more nervous instead.
I guess I’ll have to step in.
“Hoshino-san. I understand you’re nervous, but if you could raise your volume a bit more, it would help us a lot. We’re all listening—”
“Myuzu—.”
“Eh?”
“Myuzu! My name is Hoshino Myuzu!”
Hoshino’s shout echoed throughout the student council room.
We all froze and stared at the now downcast Hoshino.
“Myuzu, you say? How do you even write that in kanji?”
The boy next to me asked.
You sure are quite brave huh.
“It’s written as ‘three,’ ‘gentle,’ and ‘bell.’ Isn’t it?” For some reason, Katsuragi Minami answered in her place.
“Heeeh,” Saeki muttered, as if losing interest. Or perhaps he did not to delve further into it.
A Myuzu with 3-in it, huh? A so-called ‘Kirakira name.’ eh
Hoshino’s face was bright red. It was clear that she was quite self-conscious about her name.
No matter what I saw would make her feel just some superficial comfort, so I chose to remain silent instead.
“Then next, the general affairs personnel.”
Katsuragi Minami continued the proceedings without even a hitch.
Damn impressive is this girl.
Or perhaps she’s trying to change the awkward atmosphere with this.
It’s hard to tell, given her all so unchanging expression.
The boy next to me stood up energetically.
“I’m Taro-maru Jiro! I’m 185 centimeters tall and weigh 85 kilos! I used to be in the go-home club! Feel free to rely on me for anything related to general affairs! I will be in your care!”
As I thought, he was loud and assertive. Also, his name is quite unusual.
“Even though you are Taro-maru, yet you are Jiro?”
Saeki asked frankly. What a brave move again.
Taro-maru laughed heartily.
“Exactly that! If I were Taro Maru-Taro, it might have been funnier, but it’s kind of left halfway instead!”
“I can’t understand the feeling of garnering attention by making a joke out of your own name.”
Saeki cut him short and dismissed him. How rude can this girl get even after listening and asking him in return. Now look what you’ve done Taro-maru had a strained smile on his face.
“Well then, lastly, the secretary. Please state your height, weight, chest measurement, sitting height, favorite food, type of person you like, and what you want to achieve with the student council president in private.”
“Don’t you think I have a lot of questions to answer among the others?!”
“I thought you might give a short introduction otherwise.”
“If you think that, then at least make the questions relevant!”
When I couldn’t help but retort reflexively, Saeki, Hoshino, and Taro-maru stared at me in complete astonishment.
Yes, that’s the correct reaction. They probably didn’t expect me to be a person like this, right, you all.
I cleared my throat and composed myself.
“I’m Saiga Takagi. Nice to meet you. By the way, I prefer not to share personal details. I will be in your care then”
“Nice to meet you too! Let’s get along as fellow guys!”
This giant moved his chair closer and put his arm around my shoulder in an instant.
“Whoa there!”
Because of that, I instinctively jumped back.
The metal chair clattered down loudly and fell down.
‘Ah Arre? Did I do something wrong?’
Taro-maru looked at me, bewildered. His mouth didn’t move.
I was hearing his thoughts.
Saeki raised an eyebrow suspiciously, while Hoshino’s eyes opened wide.
Only Katsuragi Minami remained unfazed.
‘Arre, just a min, if I think correctly, I think I’ve heard the name Saiga Takagi before. Where was it again?’
I gulped on hearing Taro-maru’s inner thoughts prying towards me.
“Are you, by any chance, the Saiga Takagi who has a condition where you can’t touch others?”
As if interrogating, Saeki asked that question.
