Chapter 14: The Princess who keeps advancing without breaks.
“Then, with the confirmation of the 85th Student Council Executive Committee members being done, let’s move more on to the specifics now. Our activities will commence after spring break, starting from the entrance ceremony for new students. Nozomi and Myu-chan will handle reception. Jiro-san will be in charge of guiding. Takagi-kun will handle photography. As for me, I will participate in the entrance ceremony as the representative of current students.”
“Understood.”
“Okay.”
“Myu…”
Amid varying reactions from everyone, only I alone struggled to digest the situation.
“Photography? Am I supposed to do that?”
“Yes. Compiling the school report is also part of the Student Council’s responsibilities. While everyone will contribute to describing the entrance ceremony, the editing will naturally fall to you as the secretary. Or rather, it’s better for Takagi-kun to handle the photography, so you can align that with your own ideas, than to rely on some external institute or person for the same.”
Is this for real? I’ve heard before that the secretary has a lot of work, but this is quite a heavy burden.
“Um President, I mean, Minami-san.”
“Yes, what is it?”
Minami responded with a cheerful tone like the sound of a bell.
Saeki sent a menacing glare my way.
For now, I’ll ignore it.
“I think I can manage compiling the school report, but… I honestly don’t have much confidence in photography.”
“Then you have to start practicing your photography. It’s a good opportunity for me as well.”
Minami suggested that immediately. Was this calculated?
I have a bad feeling about this.
“Takagi-kun, please film/capture me while I am reading the congratulatory note. It’ll be a good practice for you, and I’ll also get to practice speaking in public.”
Arre, that’s quite …normal?
“In that case, well…”
“Then let’s set aside some time everyday for daily practice, with just the two of us.”
She sure doesn’t disappoint my expectations!
“Well, I think Minami-san could do well with just one day of practice.”
“Please don’t overestimate me. Even I get nervous and make mistakes.”
“Why are you so arrogant about that!? How about just a few days before then? It’s hard to find time every day.”
If I am with her alone every day, there’s a high degree of danger that my brain will boil over due to the extreme pressure that will get exerted on my brain. However, I am also on a mission to find out about her true, actual feelings, and what led her to fall in love with someone like me. If it only lasts for a few days, I can still endure it, and there will be enough chance for that as well.
I failed to ask her questions when I invited her to my home, but I want to succeed this time. And I want to get out of the boiled-up-my-head state as soon as possible as well.
“Nyu… Well, if you say so, then I guess I can’t refuse. I’ll come over to your house like the other day, there we can practice together.”
“Wait tha–…..!”
Don’t casually ignite the spark!
However, before I could explain, Jiro jumped in, “The other day? At your house?” He stared at me and Minami alternatively with a suspicious look.
“What does that mean, Minami?”
“To complete that assignment, Takagi-kun had to take the assignments home and complete it. However, as per various studies, the concentration at home falls down to one-third of the actual capacity, which could make it difficult to complete, so I went to his home as a supervisor. It was just for a day, but I was with him the whole time.”
Saeki’s mouth hung open in shock, while Hoshino covered her face with both hands.
“Hey, hey, way to go, President!” Oi Jiro, stop that, don’t start clapping instead.
“J—just what the heck are you two doing!”
“It’s not a problem, I didn’t help him.”
“That’s not the point here!”
Saeki rubbed her temples wearily. I understand how you feel, Saeki, as the person with the responsibility to retort in.
“I am saying that. it’s strange to casually intrude into a guy’s house! Or rather, you, I think you are unnaturally obsessed with Saiga somehow, don’t tell me that you are conscious about him way more than usual.”
“……………..Not at all.”
The gap! It’s very suspicious now, Minami-san! When Saeki narrowed her eyes suspiciously, Minami shook her head left and right.
“No need to worry, I haven’t done anything to worry about it.”
“I’m worried about the victim, not the perpetrator!”
“Are you are saying, from Saiga-kun? I’m sure it’s no problem then.”
“Why are you able to–aaah, now that I see, this guy huh, I guess the same then.”
Saeki suddenly lowered her tone and snorted while looking at me.
She probably interpreted that I wouldn’t immediately approach a woman due to my fear of contact.
Well, it’s really fine by me, but I feel like my dignity as a man went down the hill.
Nope… Just wait a minute there.
The way she just said it implies she anticipated that I wouldn’t make a move on her in anyway. But on the day, she was well prepared for that possibility as well.
One of those statements, either the recent one or the inner voice, must be a lie in that case.
Normally, the inner voice wouldn’t be a lie.
(Don’t tell me, is it possible that she already knows about my act and is pretending not to know about it while we are in front of everyone?)
I’m perplexed by my own thoughts. Because I don’t understand how.
Why does she know about my act?
And what is the reason that keeps her to continue pretending in front of others?
“But it’s different from before, isn’t it? Won’t it be better to use a closer to the actual environment than his home?”
“Yeah, that makes sense. Even if we do it on weekends, I think the school would be the better option, President.”
While I was in continuous thought, Saeki and Jiro began to persuade.
Even though she pouted with her lips, Minami nodded in acceptance.
“Understood. Then Takagi-kun, please tell me about your favorite side dish.”
“Side dish? Why?”
“I’ll be making lunchboxes for both of us. Let’s eat together.”
“Unfair!” “Unfair!” and for some reason, Saeki and Jiro shout together.
“If you’re going to do something fun like that, please count me in as well~!”
“That’s right, I won’t accept Saiga get a head-start from me!”
“But practicing with just the two of us should be more efficient.”
“Even you think so too right, Hoshino!”
“Fyue…”
The student council room became increasingly noisy. Being involved into the commotion, I lost the opportunity to think about the questions that had risen in me before.
However, these questions that had already risen, continue to smoulder deep within my heart.
