Chapter 28: Thinking It Was a Ceasefire
I thought things had calmed down after the whole mess with Arisa’s little brother Takuya, but apparently Arisa totally lost it way harder than I expected, and it blew up into this insane sibling fight.
I only know that because Hinata told me. Plus, Arisa’s disgust toward Takuya got so extreme that it became impossible to even ask her about it.
“That’s pretty much how it went… so, um, I’ll pass it on for you.”
“Thanks…”
Hinata looked worn out, but she was clearly mad about this whole thing too. What surprised me more was that Utsuho had already told her before I even got the chance to contact Arisa myself.
That time when I was about to get punched… the rock that came flying in was apparently thrown by Utsuho. So in the end, she saved me.
“Thank you, Shinomiya-senpai.”
“It’s nothing at all. Wait a second, Tsubaki-kun.”
“Yes?”
“Why are you calling me by my last name? I thought I gave you permission to call me Utsuho.”
“…………”
Anyway, that’s enough about the little brother situation for now.
Ever since what happened yesterday, Utsuho… her attitude toward me has completely changed. She told Hinata and the others what went down, and Hinata gave me this really intense look, but apparently she had expected something like this would happen sooner or later.
“You really shouldn’t add any more. We’re running out of time.”
“I think it’ll be fine… honestly, the fact that I’m even in this kind of relationship with all of you is already pretty weird, y’know.”
Saying “weird” probably sounds like I’m just being humble…
Anyway, I don’t plan on going any further than this, so I’m not worried about that part. Besides, it’s not even clear if things with Utsuho are gonna keep going after this.
“Oh, she’s here.”
While we were talking, Arisa finally showed up at the student council room. She had gone to the bathroom and got a bit behind, but the second she walked in, this obvious angry aura was pouring off her whole body.
“…You look like an Asura.”
“An Asura? Right now I’m way beyond an Asura.”
Even saying that, Arisa quickly softened her expression. Then she practically threw herself at me like she was about to burst into tears, and started talking like she couldn’t hold the words back.
“Please! Please don’t start hating me…! I already gave Takuya a really harsh talking-to… if you end up hating me too, I…!”
“…You’re being way too dramatic.”
I wouldn’t hate her, but even before now Arisa had always seemed strangely terrified of me disliking her. I don’t want to think I’m some big important guy, but I guess to her I really have become that kind of person.
“It’s okay, Arisa. No matter what happens, I won’t ever start hating you.”
“Tsubaki-kun…!”
“Actually, I need to work harder… so I don’t become the kind of guy who makes you lose interest.”
Being wanted so strongly really does feel good. At the same time, it makes me want to become a better version of myself so she won’t get tired of me or give up on me. This feeling is pushing me to grow in a good way… though it’s kinda pathetic that the reason I’m thinking so hard is a girl, huh…?
“I won’t get tired of you… aah, I love you so much! Hey Tsubaki-kun, right now I can’t see anyone but you♪”
“…You’re exaggerating again.”
Arisa kept rubbing her cheek against me like a dog or a cat. By the way, Hinata had been throwing in low-energy comebacks the whole time, and that whole scene was pretty funny too. Still… even though it was just the day after yesterday, it was amazing we could all gather in the student council room like this. Utsuho, being the student council president, had offered the place, and with her authority it turned into a perfect hideout where no one else could enter.
“Hey, that’s right! Utsuhon, you ended up doing it after all!”
“…What was I supposed to do? After seeing something like that, there’s no way I could hold back!”
“But you had zero experience and you still dragged Tsubaki in, right? You total pervert.”
“Pervert…!? Hmph! It bugs me when you say that, but the only time I show that side is in front of Tsubaki-kun! If I’m a pervert just for Tsubaki-kun, then that’s exactly what I want!!”
As a guy, I had no idea how to react to that back-and-forth, so I ended up looking down and turning my eyes away.
“…So cute♪”
“Mgh!?”
But from Arisa’s point of view right now, anything I did apparently looked adorable, because she pulled me right into her chest. Then Hinata jumped in too, and I got caught between the two of them. Just when their little fight was about to heat up, one line from Utsuho brought a ceasefire to the battlefield.
“Hey, I was thinking. You two love Tsubaki-kun as friends with benefits, right? In that case, I want to become his actual girlfriend! Our roles don’t overlap anyway, and I fell for him, so it can’t be helped!”
“Eh…!?”
Of course the one who was shocked was me. Yeah… if she suddenly said something like that, it made sense that Hinata and Arisa’s fight would stop.
But it turned out I was wrong about that.
“Huh…?”
“What are you talking about?”
Apparently it wasn’t a ceasefire at all. Hinata and Arisa’s sharp gazes stabbed straight into Utsuho, and a new spark of conflict rose up.
