Chapter 12: Premonition of New Days
“Come to the empty classroom during lunch break.”
“Can you come to the empty classroom during lunch break?”
The day after the thing with Hinata-san’s ex-boyfriend happened.
Right after I got to school, I received the exact same message from both Hinata-san and Arisa-san, so I couldn’t help but wonder if they planned it together, or if it was just a coincidence.
“I can’t tell which one it is.”
Anyway, I’d find out at lunch break.
“So, about yesterday—”
“About yesterday’s practice—”
I put away my phone and joined Kanato and Rio’s conversation.
“Still, lately soccer practice has been so busy that we can’t even hang out after school or on weekends.”
“Yeah… Hey, Tsubaki-kun. Do you get lonely?”
“Not really.”
“You don’t have to say it that bluntly!”
I answered without thinking, and Rio gave me a light smack.
“That’s where you’re supposed to say, ‘I’m lonely, so hang out with me!’”
“Ah, yeah yeah. I’m lonely, super lonely.”
“Mukki!!”
Rio puffed up her cheeks in a sulk, but now that I think about it, I really haven’t spent much time with those two lately… But even if they say they don’t mind me being around them as a couple, I’m the one who ends up feeling awkward.
“But you know, Tsubaki, you’ve been looking pretty happy lately.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, like you’ve come to life. Did something happen?”
“……………”
If you ask me whether something happened, then yeah, something definitely did. And today, something’s going to happen again, right away… But still, I really can’t tell them.
Even though these two are close enough to call best friends, I’d feel bad hiding things from them. But there’s no way I can tell them that I’m in a relationship with two upperclassmen… a friends-with-benefits type of thing.
“Of course I’d be happy. I see you two lovebirds being all lovey-dovey every single day.”
“R-Really?”
“Oh my~! Lovebirds, you say~!”
Kanato stared blankly, and Rio swayed her body saying “Oh my~ oh my~.”
If Hinata-san or Arisa-san moved like that, those big breasts would be jiggling all over the place, but in Rio’s case, there’s nothing to jiggle… Oh wait, her necktie was swaying since she wears her uniform properly.
“Rio’s totally tripping out.”
“Ufufu~♪”
“I’m going to the bathroom before the morning assembly.”
“Bye-bye~”
Once Kanato headed to the bathroom, Rio snapped back to normal.
“…Huh!? Kanato’s gone!?”
“He said he was going to the bathroom. While you were tripping out.”
“Oh, I see… Goodness, there I go again with my bad habits.”
Rio sat down on the chair Kanato had been sitting in.
“…Ehehe.”
“What?”
“Just like how you said seeing us makes you happy, I also like seeing you and Kanato getting along. For me, among guys our age, Tsubaki-kun is the one I trust the most after Kanato.”
She smiled as she said something pretty embarrassing.
But I didn’t feel nervous at all. Even though Rio is a girl, what we have is purely friendship.
“At first it wasn’t like this, but after I started hanging out with Kanato, things turned out this way.”
“There’s that, but also, you helped me when I was in trouble getting hit on by that guy. You said, ‘She’s my friend’s girlfriend, back off, old man.’”
“Oh yeah, that happened.”
It’s a nostalgic memory.
Was it around this time last year? I saw Rio being hit on while I was walking through town. The guy looked pretty persistent, so I stepped in. He totally seemed like a lolicon… Even though Rio has a strong personality, I couldn’t just leave her like that.
“Let’s talk about love stories! Love stories!”
“Love stories?”
“Yeah. Don’t you have someone you’re interested in, Tsubaki-kun?”
“Someone I’m interested in, huh…”
The people who came to mind were Hinata-san and Arisa-san, but considering the current situation, that couldn’t be helped.
“I’m not really sure yet, but… yeah, I do have someone I’m interested in.”
“Eh!? Who!?”
“Not telling.”
“Muuu~~~!!”
Until Kanato came back, she kept bugging me about who I liked. Then Kanato joined in with her, so it got even more annoying. Of course, I didn’t tell them.
And so, time passed, and it became lunch break. I headed to the usual empty classroom.
“Ah, you came.”
“Hey there~♪”
Hinata-san and Arisa-san were already there.
It wasn’t the first time being welcomed like this by the two of them, but I still wasn’t nervous. More than that, I was just curious about what kind of talk we were about to have.
“Come here, Tsubaki.”
“Come on, Tsubaki-kun.”
They both motioned me over, and I let them pull me into the middle.
Hinata-san gently placed her hand on my shoulder, and Arisa-san leaned in, holding onto my arm.
“…”
They definitely had something to talk about—that much I knew. But still, having them press up against me like this… I wasn’t expecting it. It made me feel embarrassed in a totally different way.
“Hey, Tsubaki.”
“Yes?”
“You and I are connected by feelings deeper than usual, but Arisa insisted. I have no intention of ending this relationship with you, not even a little, but just be with Arisa sometimes too.”
“Hey! I don’t want it to be just ‘sometimes’!?”
So… this means I’ll continue this kind of relationship with both Hinata-san and Arisa-san from now on.
“This is already me compromising, okay? This all happened because you started worrying about my relationship with Tsubaki in the first place. Normally, Tsubaki would be mine and mine alone.”
“I couldn’t help it! I got curious… and when I talked to him, Tsubaki-kun was just so sweet, I really started to think of him like a little brother.”
“‘Like a little brother,’ my ass.”
“Nooo! I wanna be Tsubaki-kun’s sex friend too! If I can’t be by his side, I’ll die alone in sadness!”
W-Wait a sec, isn’t that kind of heavy…?
Even if “I’ll die” was just a joke, Hinata-san let out a sigh. But I had already promised to accept Arisa-san’s proposal, and I had no intention of changing that answer.
“You’re not into it?”
“Huh?”
“Ah… no.”
The two of them immediately looked uneasy.
I never thought I’d make girls show that kind of expression for a reason like this, and I hurriedly shook my head.
“Um, Hinata-san, Arisa-san… I’m just really surprised that I ended up in this kind of relationship with both of you. It’s not exactly normal either. But I definitely don’t hate it… even if we don’t do anything physical, just spending time with you two is fun.”
Still, it does feel different from usual—because it’s not normal.
But the reason I don’t want to stop… is probably because I’ve been completely captivated. I’ve become addicted to that overwhelming feeling that changes everything.
“It’s okay. This relationship is ours and ours alone… and because it’s this kind of relationship, we don’t have to take it so seriously.”
“Yeah, exactly! Though if we take it too lightly, that’s also kind of… hmm.”
The sweet scent in the classroom felt like it was filling the air, and now, instead of just one, two soft, overwhelming forces were closing in. I was more excited than I’d ever been before.
“Ah… hey, Arisa.”
“What?”
“You can’t see in from outside here, right?”
“You can’t.”
“Um… Hinata-san? Arisa-san?”
What is this conversation?
“Since you came all the way here, we’ll help you feel good.”
“Nice! And as long as it’s not the real deal, you won’t make noise either, so it’s perfect.”
“…Wait!?”
No way… no way!?
By the time I thought that, there was no escape. Hinata-san unbuttoned her shirt and crouched down, and Arisa-san brought her face closer… and time passed like that.
“I’m going to the restroom before heading back to class. See ya, Tsubaki-kun~”
“Okay… see you…”
Even after Hinata-san left the classroom, I was still floating in a dream.
“Was it that good?”
“Well… I just didn’t expect it to be both of you.”
One kissed me, the other stimulated me down there… Honestly, if I had to put it into words, it was incredibly good.
Even after it was over, Hinata-san kept her hand on my shoulder and showed no sign of going back to class. I could feel that she wanted to stay like this until the very last second.
“Tsubaki, thanks for yesterday.”
“No problem. Did anything happen after that?”
“No, it’s all fine.”
The last topic of conversation during lunch break turned out to be about yesterday.
“From the look of it, I don’t think he’ll ever talk to me again. Maybe he still liked me a little and tried to get back together… but I kissed you right in front of him and showed him what’s what♪”
“Thinking back on it later… that was totally a brain-melter.”
“Like, a guy who can’t forget his childhood friend tries to talk to her, only to find out she’s already with another guy and didn’t even know it?”
“That’s way too specific!”
But it really did feel like something out of a manga, and I couldn’t help but laugh.
After that, I kissed Hinata-san and went back to my own classroom.
“…I wonder what’s gonna happen from now on.”
My daily life has changed way too much in just the past few weeks.
But one thing’s for sure—my heart is pounding, and I’m seriously excited.
