We entered the shopping mall one by one. We tried our best not to look suspicious but the way all three of us were going, it was bound to attract some eyes.

“Did you see in which way they went?” (Chihaya)

“They went towards the elevator. So probably they went to the clothes section.” (Otosaki)

“Umm… you know… maybe we could wait outside until they come back?” (Daichi)

“Not at all! We have to see what they’re upto.” (Chihaya)

“She’s right, Daichi-kun.” (Otosaki)

“Okay okay.” (Daichi)

Chihaya’s menacing glare was terrifying. And it seemed like Otosaki was also angry for some reasons.

While we reached the elevator stairs, Otosaki whispered to me,

“I’m so angry at your friend, Daichi-kun.”

“W-Why?”

“Your friend has such a nice girlfriend in Chihaya-san and yet he cheats on her with some random girl.”

“H-Hang on, Otosaki. I still believe Keiichi is not cheating on her.”

“How can you still trust your friend, Daichi-kun? It’s quite impressive.”

Keiichi indeed said so many times that Chihaya was the most beautiful girl to him and he loved her the most in the world.

Otosaki suddenly clung onto my arm to break my thoughts.

“What happened?”

“Well no matter what happens with your friend, Daichi-kun would never cheat on me with some other girl, right?”

I chuckled while looking at her worried face.

“Haha… if I ever did, you would kill me right?”

“No… first I would kill Daichi-kun, then that girl and also myself in the end.”

“Okay, this is extremely disturbing that you could say that with such a serious face. It’s giving me shivers.”

I sighed and gently stroked her head.

“But don’t worry, Otosaki. I’m not that idiot to cheat on such a cute girl.”

“Jeez… stop saying that in public. It’s embarrassing. Oh! Chihaya-san has gone far too ahead of us. We need to catch up.”

“I see. Damn I hope she doesn’t do something crazy.”

We had to run hard to catch up with Chihaya. We were currently in the clothes section. We could see both Keiichi and Wakamiya were seeing some ladies clothes. We instantly hid behind a shelf so they couldn’t see us.

“Are they going to buy clothes?” (Otosaki)

“It seems so. But for whom?” (Daichi)

“Obviously it’s for that girl!” (Chihaya)

Chihaya… was about to burst for real… such dangerous the situation was.

Meanwhile, Wakamiya chose a beautiful sky blue one piece dress and showed it to Keiichi. Keiichi looked likely he ‘approved’ it. Then he asked a worker to pack it.

“Are they really going to buy it?” (Otosaki)

“It… seems like so.” (Daichi)

“Wow… buying clothes together, how close are they?” (Otosaki)

Otosaki said that sarcastically. However, I didn’t think Chihaya would like any of this. Her expressions were a mixture of sadness and anger.

“They sure look like having fun. Look at how they are chuckling.” (Chihaya)

“Chihaya… don’t lose hope right now. I still think this is not what we’re thinking right now.” (Daichi)

“Daichi… sometimes reality is disappointing. I know you’re his best friend. But I don’t think you could defend this.” (Chihaya)

“…….” (Daichi)

I really couldn’t defend this. I didn’t have any evidence to prove Keiichi’s innocence.

After a few minutes, both Keiichi and Wakamiya left with the dress. We got up to catch them but I stopped right beside the clothes from which Keiichi was buying the dress.

“Wait a minute.” (Daichi)

Both Otosaki and Chihaya also stopped after hearing me.

“What happened Daichi-kun?” (Otosaki)

“We will lose them if we stop here.” (Chihaya)

“The clothes here are expensive than normal. They are really good quality.” (Daichi)

“So what? Do you want to buy one for Otosaki?” (Chihaya)

“Hmm….” (Daichi)

“No! Daichi-kun doesn’t need to waste his money. They are really expensive.” (Otosaki)

Otosaki grabbed my hand to pull me out of there. It’s really cute that she cared about my wellbeing. I would make sure to save money from my next allowance to buy a beautiful gift for her.

“Anyway… Chihaya, can you give me your school ID card for a moment?” (Daichi)

“Eh why?” (Chihaya)

“Please just for a second. It’s really important.” (Daichi)

“Okay.” (Chihaya)

She gave me her ID card and I checked it quickly to confirm my suspicion. I was right.

“As I expected!” (Daichi)

“Why are you so happy, Daichi-kun?” (Otosaki)

“Yeah what’s the deal?” (Chihaya)

“Chihaya… you don’t need to worry about Keiichi. He ain’t cheating on you.” (Daichi)

“Eh how are you so confident about it?” (Chihaya)

“Especially when Keiichi-san is buying such an expensive dress for that girl.” (Otosaki)

“No. He’s not buying it for her. He’s buying it for Chihaya.” (Daichi)

“”Eh….””, both Chihaya and Otosaki tilted their heads in confusion.

“You don’t get it, yet? Chihaya, it’s your birthday tomorrow right?” (Daichi)

“Eh? Wait…”, Chihaya looks at her ID card and realized her birthday was Indeed tomorrow.

“You don’t remember when it’s your birthday.” (Daichi)

“No, I normally do remember. But I was so tensed this past few days that I completely forgot that tomorrow’s my birthday.” (Chihaya)

“So that means… Keiichi-san was buying that dress for Chihaya-san? But then why is that girl with him?” (Otosaki)

“Probably she was helping him to choose a dress.” (Daichi)

“I…. I want to believe what you are saying, Daichi. But it seems too good to be true.” (Chihaya)

“I have no doubts at all. Because look at the clothes. Generally, Wakamiya is not a type of girl who likes to wear girly dresses. Do you agree?” (Daichi)

Both of them nodded in agreement. Wakamiya was indeed a girl with tomboyish character. The dress Keiichi just bought, was most likely not for her.

“Plus… the dress is expensive. As far as I know Keiichi, he’s not a type of guy to spend a lot of money on anything unless… it comes to Chihaya.”

Chihaya’s face instantly reddened after hearing me. She somehow regained her composure and said,

“99% sure. But we need to wait for tomorrow to confirm it.” (Daichi)

Chihaya looked restless. Both anxiety and excitement were visible on her face.

“Don’t worry, Chihaya-san. I have full confidence over what Daichi-kun said.”, Otosaki tried to calm her down.

“Yes… Itakura’s explanation is absolutely correct.” (Keiichi)

“Huh?” (Daichi)

“Eh?” (Otosaki)

“Ah!” (Chihaya)

We looked behind ourselves to realize both Keiichi and Wakamiya were actually silently hearing our conversation all this time.
