Chapter 32: Ominous Words
“……” Maybe I overreacted. Looking at this picture, it’s hard to believe their decision to follow us came from a place of malice.
Mizuse might joke about it now, but I can already imagine her handing over the developed photos later with a smile, saying, “You two look so happy together.”
That’s just the kind of person she is. Samidare, on the other hand, might grit her teeth and mumble something like, “I can’t believe a guy like him is taking her away,” but deep down, I’m sure she’d still support Kana.
I need to keep my emotions in check and focus on what matters.
“Sorry, I went too far. Just send me all the photos you took,” I said, running a hand through my hair as I apologized to them.
“No, it’s us who should be apologizing. We shouldn’t have followed you like that,” Mizuse replied.
“In exchange, don’t forget to send me every single one of those pictures.” “Of course. Don’t worry about that,” she assured me with a grin.
“Knowing you, though, I bet you’ll keep one or two for yourself.”
“Ah, busted?” “If you do that, I swear I’ll ruin you socially. You know I’ve got leverage, right?”
“Y-Yes, sir,” Mizuse replied meekly. Dealing with Mizuse is easy. Just hint at exposing her true nature at school, and she’ll behave in no time.
“I’m sorry too! Next time, I’ll make sure not to get caught—” “Wrong answer, you brat.”
“…I’ll reflect on my actions,” Samidare muttered, slumping her shoulders.
This cheeky underclassman becomes docile with just a little scolding. Still, she’d probably listen better if Kana reprimanded her, so I’ll leave her discipline to Kana later.
“Alright, let’s wrap this up and call it a day,” Kana said brightly, clapping her hands to lighten the mood.
“Yeah, let’s do that. No point wasting any more time on this,” I agreed.
I’d come here to have fun, and fighting with them would only ruin the day further.
“We’ll head out now. You two stay and enjoy the rest of your time together,” Mizuse said.
“We’re sorry for the trouble we caused…”
“Come on, Samidare, let’s go.” “Y-Yes!” For once, Mizuse knew when to back off gracefully without her usual antics.
Even though she teases and causes trouble, she’s still a good sister who cares about Kana in her way.
Sure, I often want to call her an idiot, but for today, I’ll let it slide.
“Bye, Sis! See you at school, Samidare!” Kana waved cheerfully at their retreating figures.
Mizuse turned halfway back and called out, “Kana, you’re not going home tonight, so see you tomorrow!”
Leaving behind those ominous words, she disappeared into the crowd with Samidare.
“Not going home? What does that mean?” “I don’t know, but I’ve got a bad feeling about this,” I muttered.
Kana and I exchanged uneasy glances, suspicious of Mizuse’s cryptic remark.
If she’s planning something else, this time I won’t let it slide. Together with Kana, I’ll make sure to deal with her properly.
Ugh… this isn’t good. Because my hunches are always right…
