Chapter 20: Busy Emotions
I clenched my fists, veins popping on my forehead, desperately trying to calm my anger.
Yelling here wouldn’t help. I decided to hold off on complaining until this situation was resolved.
“Ugh… Kana-senpai has a boyfriend… My beloved oshi, who had no male interest… she’s… been tainted…”
Confronted with the truth, Samidare froze, tears streaming down her face.
It’s not like having a boyfriend makes her any less of a fan’s oshi, but judging by Samidare’s reaction, it seemed like this was no small matter for her. For a fan, just the idea of their oshi having a partner is a crushing blow.
“Ahh… My image of Kana-senpai is shattered… Ughhh…!”
After quietly sobbing for a moment, Samidare collapsed to the ground, crying out in agony.
I felt like I had seen this scene before.
It’s something you see online when idols or actors get married, and fans post on social media about how devastated they are. I’d never seen it in person, but seeing someone actually writhing on the ground in despair like this… it was real.
“I— I’m crying…!”
Minase watched Samidare sob uncontrollably, a worried look on her face.
“Who do you think is responsible for this?”
Clearly, it was Minase’s fault. She was the one who said something she definitely shouldn’t have in that moment, yet she acted clueless like, Did I do something?
“The best way to deal with this seemed like just being honest,” Minase said, seemingly unfazed.
“Are you serious? Telling the truth just makes everything more complicated!”
“I thought it would be fine to just say, ‘Hey, I’ve got a boyfriend, but it’s not like anything shady is going on,’ and that would be that,” Minase said nonchalantly.
“You really don’t understand how fans of an oshi work, do you?”
I sighed, losing all respect for Minase as I stopped using honorifics. Honestly, I couldn’t see her as a senpai anymore—she was just my girlfriend’s troublesome older sister now.
“I’ll go talk to Samidare-chan. She’ll probably listen to me more than to you,” Kana said, patting me on the shoulder before rushing over to Samidare.
Even though Samidare was curled up on the ground, Kana crouched down to meet her eye level.
“Samidare-chan, I want to talk to you,” Kana said in a calm voice, trying not to provoke her.
“I’m dating Sohma, but that doesn’t mean I’ve changed, okay? The Kana you know is still the same.”
“Did you… fall into a bad place or get all mixed up…?” Samidare asked, her eyes wide.
“No, no, nothing like that. Sohma and I were friends for a long time, so our relationship is just a natural progression,” Kana explained.
“Did you… do it…?” Samidare asked bluntly.
“Eh… Well, I guess… that depends…” Kana said, her voice faltering.
“You totally did, didn’t you!” Samidare snapped, glaring at Kana, who turned her eyes away awkwardly.
Kana’s reaction made it clear she was embarrassed, and Samidare hit her with a sharp retort.
“It’s… well… it kind of just happened, you know? I mean, I like Sohma too…” Kana trailed off.
“Wow, you’re totally smitten, aren’t you?! Look at that face! It’s so cute, you’re practically glowing!” Samidare teased, thrilled by Kana’s rare display of emotion.
Samidare’s emotions were all over the place, a mix of anger and excitement. She really was a bundle of feelings.
Kana, too, was clearly flustered, her voice cracking as she tried to navigate the conversation. I couldn’t help but agree with Samidare—Kana was super cute when she got all flustered and affectionate.
