Hot Spring Trip – 2
The hot spring trip was scheduled for a weekend in mid-June.
On the day of departure, Ayame and I took a combination of bullet trains and local trains to reach the station near the hot spring resort.
I was caught off guard to find a limousine waiting for us at the station, but it also made me appreciate just how much Yotsuba-san wanted to ensure we were well taken care of.
By the way, the invitation had only been extended to Ayame and me—Mikage wasn’t with us. This was, without a doubt, a trip for just the two of us.
Feeling a bit out of place, we cautiously stepped into the limousine, which whisked us away to the hotel in about ten minutes.
The hotel’s exterior and interior were distinctly Japanese in style, making it feel more like a traditional ryokan than a modern hotel.
“Takamine-sama, Kanda-sama, we’ve been expecting you.”
As we stepped out of the limousine, we were greeted by the hotel manager, a middle-aged man with an air of refinement.
With the grace of a seasoned butler, he offered a deep bow before gesturing toward the hotel entrance.
“Yotsuba-sama has instructed us to provide you both with the utmost hospitality. Please, allow me to show you to your room.”
He led us to a suite on the eighth floor of the hotel.
“This is one of our finest suites, a room we take great pride in. I have no doubt that you will find it to your satisfaction.”
A limousine pickup and now a luxury suite? Yotsuba-san was being incredibly generous.
Yet, I couldn’t quite bring myself to feel entirely pleased.
“Um… this is the only room?”
That’s right. There was just one room. Meaning Ayame and I were going to be sharing it.
The manager’s brows lowered slightly.
“Yes, that is what Yotsuba-sama requested. Is there an issue?”
“N-No! Not at all! No problem whatsoever!”
That was a lie. There was a huge problem.
But I didn’t have the nerve to say it outright. There was no way I could bring myself to do something as ungrateful as rejecting Yotsuba-san’s hospitality.
As I shook my head furiously, the manager let out a relieved sigh.
“If that’s the case, then all is well. I shall take my leave, but please don’t hesitate to call if you need anything.”
With the same refined bow he had given when greeting us, the manager excused himself and walked away.
As I watched his retreating figure, a sense of unease crept over me.
It was awkward enough for two people who weren’t a couple to share a room. Someone as influential as Yotsuba-san should be well aware of that. Surely, he could have arranged separate rooms for us.
And yet, he hadn’t.
Which meant… this wasn’t a mistake. It was intentional.
Could it be that Yotsuba-san was on Ayame’s side?
It was an outlandish thought, but not entirely implausible. After all, he was a regular at Hana Mori. I couldn’t dismiss the possibility outright.
To think that a corporate giant would go out of their way to play matchmaker…
It was almost impressive.
With a sigh, I turned to look at Ayame.
The girl who had likely orchestrated this whole situation simply flashed me a bright, carefree smile.
“Well then, shall we head inside?”
“…Ah. Yes. Let’s do that.”
I nodded mechanically.
There was nothing left to do but let out a dry laugh.
