- Chapter 27 - That didn't go as planned
In exchange for splitting the food expenses with my exclusive maid, she cooked breakfast, lunch, and dinner for me, and we ate together. However, even though she had reduced her maid cafe part-time job, there were days when it was impossible to do everything. At such times, she would bring the food she had made in her free time in a Tupperware container.
I told her that it was not necessary to do all of this, but she rejected it because of her stubborn personality.
Even on the days when the school was off, she tried her best to visit me and cook meals for us.
As time passed, this lifestyle became established and became a regular part of the changing seasons. As it was too hot to wear long sleeve clothes, the school had already dropped a notice regarding the summer season’s clothing. Some eager students still had their blazers on, and the class was like a game of Othello, with white and navy blue pieces.
“Today, I would like to decide on our class’ cultural festival program.”
Standing at the teacher’s desk was Koharu Shirakawa, a member of the cultural festival executive committee of Class 2-F. Under her direction, our class’s cultural festival program will be decided from now on.
By the way, our homeroom teacher, Nekoshiba-sensei, was silently dozing off in the corner of the classroom and was sleeping like a cat, seemingly saying that school events emphasize student autonomy.
“So… Does anyone have any ideas?”
And soon the voices of the students discussing the cultural festival grew louder as they were giving their opinions on this matter.
Having too many choices which were both good and absurd, Shirakawa-san came in a pinch as she tried her best to calm down the ruckus.
“Doesn’t the student council have a say in the cultural festival?”
Slightly curious, I asked Yuki Ohira who was sitting behind me. She had a face that looked like she was bored and was resting her chin on her hand. When she caught my eye, she glared at me a little embarrassedly.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
Then she cleared her throat and answered my question with a dignified expression.
“If we meddle, there’s no point in having a cultural festival committee.”
“That’s right.”
“Basically, the student council works behind the scenes. To be more precise, the cultural festival committee is responsible for behind-the-scenes work, so it’s correct to say that we are the behind-the-scenes of the behind-the-scenes.”
“Being behind-the-scenes of the behind-the-scenes sounds tough.”
“It’s tough, but not difficult. At this time of year, the cultural festival committee basically takes the lead, and we make the final decision. However, we won’t shake our heads at something that’s not too weird.”
Shirakawa-san then caught everyone’s attention as she pointed to the class proposal written on the blackboard and asked, “Which of these ideas do you think would work?”
“Takoyaki, shaved ice cream, crepes, and pancakes,” she said, indicating the food stall ideas. “There are also things like bingo games, haunted houses, mazes, maid cafes, and photo spots that can be set up in the classroom.”
“There are also theatrical performances, fashion shows, hero shows, choir performances, and brass band performances that can be held in the gymnasium,” she added.
“Well, any of the ideas on the board would work, I think,” Shirakawa-san remarked in the end.
“Right, they’re all pretty standard,” another student agreed on her words.
“Although, there was one idea that was suggested a while ago, like a swimsuit contest or something like that, but that’s definitely out of the question.”
“Oh, I see,” the other student responded, sounding dejected at the mention of swimsuits getting rejected. Shirakawa-san then changed her tone of voice and said coldly, “Do you want to see girls in swimsuits?”
The other student responds with a defiant “Yeah,” but the girls in the vicinity immediately labeled him as a “pervert” in a hushed voice.
Feeling embarrassed, one of the student murmured, “Uh, sorry.”
Shirakawa-san then continued, “Of course, anything that shows too much skin is out of the question. This is a school event, after all.”
This means that they can do just about anything they like.
“Well, personally, as long as it’s not a maid cafe, I’m fine with it,” Yuki Ohira who was sitting behind me said in a low voice which only I could hear.
“Why not?” I asked.
“Well, you see, I work at a maid cafe, but I don’t want anyone to find out. If we prepare a maid cafe, I might get too into it and reveal my actual personality.”
“It seems like it would be hard to outdo you.”
“That’s right. But if I get too into it, there’s a chance someone might find out, and I want to avoid that at all costs,” Yuki Ohira said, emanating a fierce determination.
“We are serious maids. We don’t allow any playtime maids.”
Suddenly with a rumble, I could feel the intensity of the class reaching to an unimaginable degree.
It looks like the class has finally reached a conclusion.
“““Whoaaa!”””
The entire class was filled with excitement. Although I didn’t notice it during my conversation with Yuki Ohira, the class’s voltage had risen to its maximum.
Particularly the boys were rejoicing, some stood up, and some whistled. The girls’ temperament was also not bad, and the atmosphere was such that they said it. When I looked towards Shirakawa-san, I wondered what had happened.
“In that case, it’s decided that Class 2-F will organize a maid café.”
“Ehhhhhhhhhh!?”
In the midst of great joy, Yuki Ohira’s voice echoed throughout the class. Everyone’s gaze was drawn to her voice, which resounded from one corner of the classroom to the other.
“Oh, and… maid cafes are becoming a staple of the cultural festival.”
I muttered, and she began to tremble. And with her trembling body, she said it with her usual dignified expression.
“Let’s make this the best maid café our school has ever seen.”
“Thank god, you finally read the room of the class.”
Thanks to the encouragement of the student council president, the class’s voltage went to MEGAMAX.
“Woah! The fairy queen has also agreed!”
“Plus we also have Shirakawa-san, Nakano-san, and Saito-san!”
“It’s a feast for the eyes and the sales will definitely reach number one!”
The boys’ collaboration was getting even stronger.
“Maid costumes are cute, aren’t they?”
“The threshold was high, but it’s exciting to be able to wear them at the cultural festival.”
“Welcome, master.”
“It’s dangerous. She’s so cute that I will faint if I look at her any longer.”
In terms of excitement, the girls were no less inferior to the boys.
Amidst the class, Yuki Ohira, who was still sitting behind me, was scratching her head annoyingly as she let out an inaudible scream.
