- Chapter 23 - No one can match her beauty
“Are you leaving already?”
It was a little after 7:00 AM.
Yuki Ohira had finished eating the breakfast and had already washed the dishes. As she put on her loafers at the entrance, a voice of admiration, or maybe respect, or perhaps something else, escaped from my mouth.
In response to it, she lifted one foot and stuck her finger into her shoe, and answered me.
“The cultural festival is getting closer every passing day. It’s not quite the busy season yet, but I want to get everything done as much as I can.”
“You really are an excellent student council president.”
Although we were supposed to be born in the same year, I wondered how such a difference could arise from upbringing. The difference was so clear that it left a strong impression on me.
Tapping the tips of her toes on the floor, she put on her loafers and said, “Oh, right,” as if she had just remembered something, and took something out of her school bag.
She handed him something wrapped in blue cloth.
“What is this?”
“It’s a lunchbox.”
“A lunchbox…?”
Certainly, as I held it, I could tell that it was a lunchbox. But I didn’t understand why she was giving me a lunchbox.
“Don’t worry. It’s a lunchbox that even boys can use.”
“Well, I mean, whether it’s a Hello Kitty one or a princess one, I wouldn’t mind using a lunchbox you prepared for me.”
“So you’re not the type to worry about that kind of thing?”
“Fundamentally, why are you giving me a lunchbox?”
“Why? As I’ve been saying, we will split the cost of breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so of course there’s lunch too.”
“Oh, I see.”
I hadn’t even thought about what to do for lunch with my drowsy head, but I realized there was a way with a lunchbox. It made more sense now.
“I’m sorry, but I couldn’t ask for your preference for lunch, so I left it up to my discretion.”
“Well, anything you cook, Ohira, is delicious. So, I’ll leave it up to you.”
“Is that so…”
In response to my straightforward opinion, she turned her face to the side, with a slightly embarrassed expression adoring her beautiful face.
“Oh, and you. You got up early, after all. Why don’t you leave the house with plenty of time and go to school without rushing?”
As if trying to hide her embarrassment, she gave me some important advice that was true.
“I’ll do that.”
I replied, and she let out a sigh of relief, but quickly regained her composure and raised her hand.
“I’m off.”
“Take care.”
I waved to her while I was still in my pajamas.
As the front door clicked shut, I turned around and returned to the living room.
“Maybe I should go to school early once in a while.”
Since I had gotten up early, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to follow Yuki Ohira’s advice and go to school early.
I take off my pajamas and quickly change into my school uniform.
7:20 AM. For the first time since my middle school field trip, I left my house at such an early hour.
Just by advancing the time by an hour, the world had completely changed for me. Even the national road I usually take to school had fewer cars and fewer people walking on the sidewalk. Although not completely deserted, there were hardly any pedestrians, just a handful of people passing by that I could count on my fingers. Furthermore, as no one was walking in the direction of the school, I felt like this sidewalk was my own personal path, and it felt good.
The position of the sun was also different, so even though it was sunny like yesterday, it had a subtly different shimmer.
I think it’s just my imagination, but the air feels somehow fresher.
Just by waking up early, having breakfast, and leaving home early, the world view changed so much for me.
Every day, I barely make it to school on time. Sometimes, I have to dash to make it on time, and I end up using quite a bit of energy in the morning.
However, that’s not the case today.
I have enough time, so I walked at my own pace, and realized that going to school is not a burden.
As my footsteps became lighter, and my stride became wider than usual, I arrived at school in no time.
Usually, I enter the main gate with other students who dash to make it on time, but today I walked through the gate with ease. It felt like a parallel world where the tortoise and the hare ran through without slacking off.
I can hear the voices of club members doing morning practice on the faraway ground, but there was no one at the entrance.
Is it just me who thinks it’s kind of emotional to hear the sound of club activity from afar, even though no one is around?
In the school building, there is only the sound of my sneakers, and no one to cross paths with. I don’t usually listen to my footsteps, so it’s a chance to know a new side of myself, and I can’t help but smile from the bottom of my heart.
I entered the usual classroom, but then I stopped in my tracks upon seeing the scene in front of me.
There was a fairy sitting in the classroom, basking in the morning sun.
It’s a different impression than when I saw her in the apartment.
Her long silver hair shone like jewels in the sunlight, and her beauty was unparalleled.
It’s not an overstatement to say that there’s no one who can compare to her.
Just sitting there, if you were to say that’s all what she was doing right now, then that would be correct. But among beautiful girls, there is no other who can sit with such a divine aura just by sitting there like her. Overwhelming beauty must be some kind of a talent.
The beautiful fairy who reigns at the top of this world seemed to sense my presence and looked up, meeting my gaze. Then, from the unattainable illusionary fairy, she showed me a triumphant smile as if she had become a normal girl again.
Seeing her girlish smile, I felt as if I had returned from a different world to the real world, and I could finally start walking towards my own seat.
“It feels good, doesn’t it? Getting up early,” she said, as if she could see through my heart. It was frustrating, but it was true, and I couldn’t come up with a reply.
“Indeed,” I said, conceding defeat as I sat down, and she looked happy.
“I’ll make sure to let you experience this pleasant morning feeling every day.”
“Every day, huh…” I thought suddenly.
If every day, I could have the illusionary and mystical fairy all to myself, like I saw just now, it wouldn’t be so bad.
“Not a bad idea,” I said.
“Hehe~, is that so?” Yuuki Ohira said, satisfied or unaware of my thoughts, as she continued her work.
