When I Brought The Lost Little Girl To Her House, The One Who Came Out Of The Front Door Was The Most Beautiful Girl In The Grade. - Chapter 48
“Next person, please.”
“Thank you.”
It seems students can enter for free, so I showed my student ID to the receptionist, and I was indeed allowed in for free. What a great deal.
Once inside, it’s dimly lit and has a really atmospheric feel.
As I proceed further, I hear a sound like a blizzard, as if I’m in a snowy mountain setting.
From the point where I hear that sound, a snow woman stares at me in silence.
She’s incredibly white, almost like a doll. I couldn’t move forward for a while.
“Huh? Aren’t you scared?”
“Well, um… more than scared, you are beautiful.”
“Huh…”
“Is that something to be down about?”
“But, I want to scare everyone!”
Saying things like that won’t really help. Ayano probably understands that too.
However, it seems like she’s slightly unsatisfied with my reaction and the reactions of others.
“Just earlier, a little girl who was crying until she came here with her mom, the moment she saw me, she stopped crying. Isn’t that weird?”
Oh, maybe that girl also thought she was a doll or something. To stop a crying kindergarten child just by looking at her, that’s quite impressive. Though she doesn’t seem happy about it at all.
“Okay then, I should probably…”
“Oh! I’m going to see the play, so I’ll be going!”
“Sure.”
“Good luck!”
“You too, Ayano.”
Ayano waves at me, and I thought that if the person playing the ghost role was acting like this, she wouldn’t be able to scare anyone. But I swallowed that thought. I waved back.
After the haunted house, I went around and visited various classes. While doing that, the time had already passed 1:00 pm.
“I guess I should have lunch soon…”
I went to the third-year classroom and entered the class that was running a food stall.
Then, the person sitting near the door called my name.
“Kuroda, wanna eat together?”
“Mimura? What are you doing?”
“You’ll see if you look, right? I came here to eat.”
Naturally, I shouldn’t have expected anything less. If I had stayed here meaninglessly, I’d probably be kicked out by the third-years.
Mimura made me sit in front of him. Souta was sitting next to him, but he seemed unusually tired.
“What’s up, Souta?”
“Being on the executive committee is really tiring.”
“I see, it must be tough.”
Souta stretches while saying, “It’s really tough.”
I suddenly remembered that Ayano was also on the executive committee. Even though I didn’t think about it when we met at the haunted house earlier… Is Ayano also going through a tough time?
“Oh, Ayano-san doesn’t have any work today.”
“Don’t read my mind. Are you an esper?”
“You seemed curious anyway.”
“Is that so?”
“Yeah, you were,” he said bluntly, making me embarrassed.
I tried not to show my expression and looked down, hiding my face.
“By the way, what does the executive committee actually do?”
“Well, mainly preparations and clean-up, I guess.”
“It sounds plain and the most troublesome.”
“Also, today’s Miss Contest scores and records will be managed.”
The Miss Contest… Ayano is participating in that, right? Last year, she was the clear winner for her grade. But she said she wasn’t interested, so I wonder if she’ll participate this year.
“Is Shirakawa-san participating this year?”
“Yeah, it seems so. She’s been recommended by the whole class again this year.”
“The whole class? That’s impressive…”
“Well, I guess no one in the class wants to go against Shirakawa-san.”
While having that conversation, the orders placed by Souta and Mimura arrived.
Seeing them, I recalled that I had come here to eat too, so I finally placed my order.
Talking with them, I start to forget the reason I came here in the first place, which is getting a bit frustrating.
Due to my delayed order, I hurriedly start eating the food that’s been brought to me.
I wanted to savor the taste, but it seems that’s not possible. It’s already past 1:30 PM, and we’re supposed to gather by 2 PM.
“Thank you for the meal.”
“Alright! Shall we get going then?”
“Oh no, suddenly I’m getting nervous.”
Saying that, I stand up. My heart starts to beat rapidly.
What’s the use of getting nervous now? Even if I think that, my heart doesn’t seem to calm down.
I can clearly feel my heart pounding in my ears.
As I enter the classroom, everyone is already there. We seem to be the last ones to arrive.
“What’s the deal with the general manager being the last one here!”
To this, Mimura replied, “I thought that being the last one might help everyone feel more focused.”
He didn’t honestly say that the conversation was getting lively and that’s why we were late.
“Alright, let’s do a final check individually!”
Upon hearing that, I was about to review my lines, but I was approached by members of the handicraft club.
“Are you okay with the costume?”
“Yeah, it fits perfectly.”
“All right!”
The members of the handicraft club give each other high-fives. Somehow, I also joined in. I thought I could finally review my lines after that, but now I’m told to do my makeup and several girls came over to help me.
Oh, come on, seriously?
Without being able to confirm my lines, I start to feel quite uneasy.
The girls handed me a mirror. At first, I didn’t understand why.
“What’s this?”
“It’s a mirror! Don’t you know what a hand mirror is, Kuroda-kun?”
“I do, but… I don’t understand why you’re giving it to me.”
“It’s so you can check yourself after your makeup is done!”
That explanation made sense. After all, I can’t see my own face properly.
At that moment, I was a mix of unease due to not being able to review my lines, nervousness about the play, and curiosity about how my face might change with makeup.
