- Chapter 6 - Just When I Thought the Crisis Was Over, the Protagonist Showed Up
Had I been daydreaming this whole time?
I couldn’t help but think that way.
I stood there in a daze, trying to speak to Alice, but it wasn’t the right moment to approach her.
Alice was still brimming with the same intense hostility as before.
However, she wasn’t looking at me.
For some unknown reason, Alice had her back turned to me.
She was glaring intensely at the door of the shop.
But all that was there was an ordinary wooden double door.
Just as I began to feel something was off about Alice’s behavior…
“Who’s there…Show yourself,” Alice said.
Her voice, usually calm, was now filled with clear hostility.
After a slight pause, the door opened, and a woman—no, a man—entered.
The person looked unusually delicate for a man, with a face so beautiful it could be mistaken for a woman’s.
“Apologies for the sudden intrusion.”
The man said this politely, bowing his head with exaggerated formality.
It was so theatrical that if anyone else had done it, it would have seemed ridiculous.
However, in this man’s case, his every movement appeared refined and elegant.
That’s because his appearance was nothing short of extraordinary.
The knight, clad in light armor, was so striking that even I, a fellow man, couldn’t help but be captivated.
If it weren’t for his armor, one might easily mistake him for a beautiful woman with his androgynous face.
More than anything, this knight radiated a powerful aura, as if he were glowing with divine light.
He looked to be around the same age as Alice, young but dignified, likely due to his unparalleled appearance—or rather, the entire atmosphere surrounding him.
Even in the dimly lit slave shop—my shop—he seemed to be illuminated by a spotlight.
And then there was the sword he carried.
It shone with a pale, blue light, almost like it was reflecting moonlight.
If I had to describe it, I’d say it looked like a holy sword, divine in its brilliance.
A knight adorned with such a mystical sword…He had the aura of a protagonist from a movie or a play.
Yes…a holy sword…a protagonist…Could it be—
“My name is Lucius Lepidus. I apologize for the intrusion, but I am searching for someone. A young woman named Alice.”
At that moment, a jolt of shock shot through my entire body like lightning.
There was no mistaking it…Lucius Lepidus…He’s the protagonist of Lunatic Wars.
And he’s the man who, together with Alice, will kill me.
But why is he here now…?
The protagonist isn’t supposed to visit this town until after the Empire’s large-scale invasion of the neighboring kingdom begins.
That’s the start of Lunatic Wars’ storyline.
That’s why I’d been carefully gathering information about the Empire’s movements.
But I hadn’t heard anything of the sort.
Is this man really Lucius, the protagonist…?
But this overwhelming aura…
And that radiant, divine sword hanging at his waist…The Moonlight Sword…
An item only the protagonist can wield…
If that’s the Moonlight Sword, then the man standing before me has to be Lucius.
I stared at Lucius with my confused thoughts swirling.
Lucius, meanwhile, remained as polite as ever.
But I could clearly see the contempt and scorn in his eyes.
There was no doubt about it…Lucius bore hostility toward me.
Then again, no one would show kindness to a slave trader.
That’s the general attitude people have toward someone like me—a slave trader.
That means Lucius hasn’t yet realized my true identity—that I’m the one keeping Alice as a slave.
I need to deceive him somehow and prevent this event from triggering—
“I am Alice. But who are you, and why have you come here?”
Alice responded to Lucius with a suspicious look on her face.
This is bad…
I can’t let Alice and Lucius talk.
If they continue like this, it’ll trigger the event…the event where I die.
“A-Alice…wait—”
“So…you are Princess Alice of Runehold Kingdom?”
Lucius’s expression shifted to one of astonishment and joy, his voice overflowing with emotion.
“You know who I am? Who are you, really?”
“I apologize for the delayed explanation. I am part of the anti-Empire alliance. I’ve come to rescue you, Princess Alice of Runehold. I had heard rumors that you were captured by a slave trader…”
As Lucius said this, he turned a sharp gaze toward me.
Even though he was a man, his beauty was so striking that I couldn’t look away.
Honestly, he didn’t even seem like a man.
He looked more like a beautiful woman.
Come to think of it, there were rumors that Lucius had some strangely feminine qualities, leading some people to speculate he might be a woman…
Some fans even started imagining Lucius as a heroine, developing all sorts of wild fantasies.
I used to look at those fans with disdain, but now, seeing Lucius in person—in 8K resolution—I could kind of understand how they felt.
Even though he was wearing rugged armor that covered all his skin, and certainly wasn’t wearing any makeup, he still exuded an odd charm.
Perhaps this charisma was the result of the protagonist’s aura.
But now isn’t the time to be mesmerized by Lucius’s beauty.
I need to think about my life here…
“To enslave a woman, to enslave Princess Alice after she lost her homeland…You’re a vile man…I, as a woman, can never forgive you.”
Lucius muttered something under his breath, clenching his fists as he glared at me.
His beautiful face twisted, and his eyes burned with fury.
It seemed I had completely earned Lucius’s hatred.
Given that I’m a slave trader, it’s no surprise considering what I’ve done so far…
Lucius slowly drew the holy sword—the Moonlight Sword—from his waist.
And then, he pointed the glowing, divine blade directly at me…
“Release Princess Alice. If you don’t…I…ahem…we—this holy sword and I—will pass judgment on you.”
This is bad…
I had a terrible feeling, but now it’s clear—the event from my memory has been triggered.
