Chapter 37: Alice Is Furious For Some Reason
For now, it seems I’ve avoided being taken away.
I walk with heavy steps alongside Natalia, wiping away the nervous sweat.
Behind me, I feel countless sharp gazes.
Mylene and the others, keeping their distance, follow us from behind.
To be honest, the murderous intent I feel is so strong, it makes me uneasy.
It feels like they might jump on me at any moment.
Perhaps they’re waiting for a chance to get rid of me and Natalia all at once.
As we finally reach the mansion, Mylene and the others suddenly disappear.
At that moment, standing in the middle of the road before us is a woman.
It’s Alice, dressed in her maid uniform, standing there as if she appeared out of nowhere.
I was startled by her sudden appearance.
It was almost like she had teleported.
But there’s no magic like that in Lunatic Wars.
She must have just moved at an incredible speed.
Or wait, didn’t some of the dark-side characters with shadow magic disappear and reappear like that?
I always thought it was just a common game effect, but maybe there really is magic like that.
Either way, I hadn’t sensed Alice at all.
Natalia seems just as shocked.
“Wha…when did you…?” she mutters, eyes wide in surprise.
Alice briefly glances at Natalia.
“Another woman…again? And that crest…she is…”
She mutters something under her breath, sighs, and furrows her brow.
After giving Natalia a brief look, Alice slowly turns her attention back to me and walks toward me.
She steps up close, as if checking something, and stares at my face and body without saying anything.
“W-wait, Alice…what are you…?”
I stammer, thrown off by how close she is.
Alice’s beautiful blonde hair sways in the wind, and she smells incredible. I can even feel her breath.
“Master, I was concerned because you were late returning to the mansion…What exactly have you been doing? You smell like…Mylene and the others…”
Though Alice remains expressionless, I can sense she is quite angry.
She’s probably mad because I dumped all the responsibility for Lucius onto her and left.
“N-no, it’s not like that! I was trying to come back quickly, but Mylene and the others—”
As I try to explain myself, Alice suddenly brings her face close to my neck.
“There’s quite a lot of Mylene’s fur on you…and claw marks…and even lipstick…Heh, what exactly were you doing? Master?”
With her thin fingers, Alice picks off some of Mylene’s beast fur that was stuck to my clothes.
And then, for some reason, she smiles while looking into my eyes with her blue ones.
She might be smiling, but her entire mood has changed.
I can’t help but step back from the strange aura she’s giving off.
Alice looks down and mumbles to herself.
“Ah…calm down, Alice…The ones at fault are those shameless fox women who tempted him…Besides, Master will one day overthrow the emperor and claim the throne…As the rightful wife, I must be understanding…That is my role as a noblewoman and his proper wife…But Mylene…those fox women…They dared touch Master’s body, and even left claw marks…”
She continues muttering under her breath.
Suddenly, the air around Alice seems to darken, as if the very ground is being consumed by shadows.
For a moment, I thought the ground had fallen away.
The earth, once brown, is now swallowed by a deep, black darkness.
From within it, strange, grotesque creatures are writhing.
Wait…these things…I remember them. They’re the dark minions, aren’t they? The ones that, once they appear, will destroy entire cities.
They were one of the mid-game bosses, right?
Seeing it in real life is much more horrifying and grotesque than I imagined…
“What is this sinister presence!? No…it can’t be! Those are the ancient dark minions, the ones that ravaged our kingdom a hundred years ago! Why are they here?! This is bad! If this continues, the city…no, the entire kingdom could—”
Natalia and her guards scream in panic at the sudden appearance of the ominous creatures.
Snap out of it! Now isn’t the time to escape into my thoughts.
I need to stop Alice!
But how? What can I say to calm her down?
I don’t even know why she’s so angry…
Still, I rush over to Alice in a panic.

Chapter 38: Alice’s Flared at Me and the Final Boss’s Glared at Me Too
But…I tripped over part of the grotesque creatures trying to manifest in this world, not just over a small stone on the ground—.
With that momentum, I crashed into Alice, and we both fell to the ground.
“Ouch…”
I unintentionally let out a pathetic sound as I opened my eyes.
There was Alice, and from the ground, now completely consumed by darkness, countless eyes—compound eyes—were staring at me.
Upon closer inspection, the ground…no, the bottom of what had become another space…was teeming with countless strange creatures, large and small.
I quickly averted my gaze from those abominable beings.
And then, my eyes met Alice’s.
Her eyes were wide open.
She must have been surprised.
Of course, she would be…Instead of convincing her, I ended up knocking Alice down.
Also, her cheeks were clearly flushed.
This is bad…I’ve only made her angrier.
I need to come up with an excuse—.
“…Master…what exactly is this?”
Alice, her face still surprised, suddenly looked down for some reason.
Following her gaze, I realized things had gotten even worse.
Yes…I had both hands firmly grasping Alice’s ample chest…They were so soft I could almost stay like this forever…No, that’s not the point…I had been groping her.
In a hurry—well, maybe I stayed like that for a few seconds—I quickly removed my hands from Alice’s chest.
“This, this is different! It’s not what it looks like!”
“…What exactly is different, Master…?”
Alice’s cheeks were even redder than before, and she glared at me with eyes full of anger, just on the verge of exploding.
To make matters worse, I had the feeling those grotesque creatures squirming in the pitch-black darkness were also staring at me.
“This, this is…I, I mean, Alice…I, I care about you! Alice, you’re special to me, and I’ve always thought about you…And, about earlier…Yes, yes! That conversation! I didn’t explain it well, but…I’m thinking about your future, Alice…”
My explanation was a complete mess.
To be honest, my head was in full panic mode.
Alice had lowered her face, making it impossible for me to see her expression.
Did she think my ramblings weren’t worth listening to?
‘Who dares to summon me…’
Suddenly…an eerie, unpleasant sound echoed in my ears…No, inside my head.
What I was actually hearing was just a series of incomprehensible, terrible groans.
Yet, somehow, I understood what that sound meant.
W-what is this—?
I turned my face towards the source of the voice…No, the sound.
At the bottom of the abyss…no, in the space that had been consumed by darkness, there was something large and writhing, far bigger than the other creatures.
No way…That distinctive, horrifying form, like multiple creatures fused together…Could that be…the final boss, “The One Who Returns to Nothingness”?
‘I am The One Who Returns to Nothingness, the bringer of absolute destruction from beyond the stars…’
Again, the unpleasant sound echoed.
No doubt about it…After all, it had just formally introduced itself.
But…hearing it say its name out loud like that kind of makes it lose its dignity, doesn’t it?
Well…it’s part of the setting, so I guess it can’t be helped…
But wait…now’s not the time for calm analysis.
If the final boss shows up at this point, not just the minions of darkness, but…this city…no, the entire world will—.
Wait…the protagonist—Lucius—should be here to fight it…No, wait, I can’t count on that…The holy sword to defeat the final boss was reduced to ashes by Alice, and Lucius is my slave now. Besides, Lucius isn’t nearly strong enough at this level to stand a chance—.
‘In my presence, all existence fades, and all meaning is lost.’
Once again, the abominable voice reverberated directly into my head.
Yeah…I remember now. Just hearing the final boss’s voice is enough to drive ordinary people mad.
When I looked to the side, I saw that Natalia and the others were already rolling their eyes, drooling, and wandering aimlessly.
It’s strange that I’m still fine, but at this rate—.
‘Now…be consumed by the abyss—’
“Enough of this…I’m in the middle of a very important conversation with my master.”
Suddenly, Alice spoke up, glaring at the final boss, “The One Who Returns to Nothingness,” which was now halfway manifested into the world.
“I only unsealed you because I thought you might be useful in the battle against the Empire…But this isn’t the time. Know your place, you mere servant.”
“The One Who Returns to Nothingness” remained silent…no, soundless.
Then, all its countless eyes turned towards Alice and me.
This is bad…If I’m stared at by those eyes, I’ll be consumed by madness—.
