What’s under Kamiyama-san paper bag?
AFTERWORD
“Good morning, Komino-kun,” on a certain spring morning, Arai called out to me from behind as we were heading to school. Dressed neatly in her uniform, she smiled and walked beside me with a cheerful expression.
“Good morning, Arai,” I greeted her back, and Arai walked alongside me. Her smile is always lovely.
“G-G-G-Good m-m-morning! G-G-Good m-m-morning, Komino-kun!” I turned towards the strange intonation of the voice and saw Kamiyama-san there. Today, she had a paper bag on her head, and her uniform was soaked through. A drop of water fell from the hem of her skirt, moistening the asphalt on the school route.
Kamiyama-san awkwardly rushed over to us with quick steps. “Good morning, Kamiyama-san,” I returned the greeting, and Kamiyama-san walked beside me and Arai.
She must have done her best with her greeting. It felt like she had one less “o” than yesterday. Probably…
As we walked among the many students on the way to school, the three of us walking together, suddenly, I heard a familiar voice from behind.
“By the way, A-chan, did you do today’s homework? Actually, I have a favor to ask…”
When I turned to the voice, there was Harusame with a slightly troubled expression. She had shortened her usual checkered skirt even more and was wearing her usual pink cardigan.
“Hey, hey, A-chan, you’re good at English, right? I forgot to do my homework. Can I see yours? Please!”
Oh, she was also there behind us. Just as I was about to call out to Harusame, a female student who was walking next to Harusame responded in a gentle tone.
“Jeez… Haru-chan always relies on me like that… It’s not good, you have to do it yourself.”
“Yeah, you’re right… I have to do my homework by myself. Oh, then, tell me when we reach the classroom. I… I’m really bad at English and I don’t understand anything.”
“Jeez… you’re just going to say that and end up showing me everything… Ah, everyone, good morning!” The female student next to Harusame noticed us and waved her hand towards us.
“Good morning. Harusame, A-chan,” I greeted them, and the two walked beside us. They seemed to get along well today too.
“Good morning, Harusame-chan and A-chan. Looking forward to club activities today,” Arai said with a smile.
“G-G-Good m-m-morning… Harusame-chan, A-chan. Let’s do our best… in the club!” Kamiyama-san, probably with a smile on her face, stuttered.
Just as everyone in the Conversation Club gathered at that moment, the chime signaling the start of class sounded five minutes before.
“Oh, we have to hurry, or we’ll be late,” I called out to everyone and rushed towards the school.
Another day of club activities… Well, there’s nothing much to do even if I go back early. I’ll just do my best as usual!
