We are pretending....right? - Chapter 20- Comfort in his presence...
[Personal maid of Sou: Nanabe Kyouko]
I have been serving young Master Sou for a year now, but this is the first time I have seen him so angry about something.
The reason that despite being the son of such an influential man, Sou-sama never allowed someone to serve him was that he never wanted some meddlesome character in his life.
I was appointed after his father pestered him a lot but on the first day of my job, Sou-sama made it clear that he would never use my services and asked me to remain outdoors until it was not an emergency. Since I was given the apartment flat just below this one, I had no problem remaining idle since I was a nearby young master.
However, today for the first time, I was called by the young master, but to do what? To clean up a broken middle-aged man…
“Who was he?”
“Asukasa Wakaru. Age 43, father of two. Both of his children are in middle high school. His wife expired three years ago. Currently, working at HrM private limited as a clerk. He has already been to jail three times because of molesting girls on trains but was bailed after some time. The financial condition of the family looks bleak and the two children already have begun searching for jobs.”
The molester was currently in the hospital ward where no outsider could come and go. Until further orders, Asukasa Wakaru would be invisible to the outside world and would get treated only to the point where he could remain alive.
I have been trained in the way that if I were to be ordered to let Wakaru die, there’s nothing I would do rather than comply with the orders. Though it would be saddening for the two little girls but there is no helping in it.
Fortunately, Sou-sama, despite looking awfully agitated, didn’t take any rash decisions.
“Ensure that man stays in jail for at least six months and help with those kids.”
I was surprised that he didn’t turn a blind eye to the children. My respect for Sou-sama elevated just now.
I bowed and bid my farewell.
‘Come to think of it…who was that girl…’

[Sumire’s POV: ]
‘This is soooooo awkward…’
Currently, I was wearing nothing but a bathrobe after taking a quick shower. But the fact that I was currently in Sou-kun’s house justifies why I am so worked up currently.
Sou-kun didn’t hear a single word from me and just dragged me to this high-end building named ‘The Hailey Tower’ which has the most expensive apartment houses in Tokyo. More to it, Sou’s home was built on the whole top floor…I can’t even compare how big this place is compared to my own.
Sou just told me to put my drenched clothes in a basket near the washroom and told me to use whatever I like in the bathroom. I found a bathrobe just outside so I readily wore it and walked outside.
“S-Sou-kun?”
I slowly walked toward the huge living area but didn’t find Sou-kun at all.
My eyes wandered around a bit as I saw a huge TV hanging on the wall opposite the couch and wall patterns making the background seem decent and peaceful. The overall grey and white wall paint was going perfectly with the setting. There was a dining space as well after the living room and an open kitchen.
I would have explored the kitchen if not for the single person currently filling my whole vision.
“Sou-kun?”
“Ah…hey, Sumire. Gimme a minute.”
He didn’t turn to look at me as he continued to stir whatever dish he was preparing. From the fragrance of it, it seemed to be stew. My stomach growled as my appetite was triggered just by the aroma.
I decided to take the chair at the dining table and watch Sou-Kun for the time being. But suddenly I realized that it was already too late and I haven’t even informed Ryuu and mom about myself…
“Sou-kun…do you know where my bag is?” I am doubtful whether Sou-kun left my bag back in the alley but fortunately, he didn’t.
“It’s kept on the center table and don’t worry about your family. ”
Sou-kun finally turned to face in my direction with a tray in his hands and a black apron draping over his front.
Unlike before, I could see his caramel shade eyes and the gentle expression he held for me made my mind feel at ease.
But soon I realized that his words were a little vague so I asked him, “You called my mom?”
“No, but I asked Akari-san to tell your mother that you would return late today. And don’t worry, I sent sushi to your residence so Ryuu-kun would be having a meal by now.”
Sou-kun walked in my direction before he placed the dishes on the table. However, my focus didn’t go there even though I was incredibly hungry since I wanted to say something more important to Sou-kun.
“Sou-kun I-”
“Let’s eat dinner first, Sumire-san. I know you want to thank me but truth be told it was my fault for leaving you all alone in the first place so let’s count it equal and enjoy the food for now, alright?”
Since Sou-kun was still on my side to place the dishes, his voice seemed more profound at the same time a little too comforting. I felt safe in his presence.
I have no idea how Sou-kun grew so close to me in such a brief period but the fact that in a state of crisis, the first name I called was his, already states how important Sou-kun has become for me.
If anything, I don’t want this good-going relationship between us to ever come to an end.
I smiled as I saw Sou-kun making his way toward the seat opposite me when suddenly my smile broke as I realized something and in the spur of the moment, asked the person who centers around my concern.
“By the way, Sou-kun…how come you have Akari’s number…? ”
