Thanks to my efforts, Isamu and Haruka were able to maintain a wholesome relationship.

In contrast, Nanaka showed open hostility toward me. In other words, she hated me. Well, that was the expected reaction.

Then came the first semester closing ceremony. All students listened to the principal’s lengthy speech in the hot gymnasium. Rather than bored, everyone was restless. Why? Because once we got through this morning, summer vacation would begin.

After homeroom ended, summer vacation officially started. The class was in high spirits.

“Shotaro, let’s go home,” said a male student who had timed his approach for when our class ended.

“Oh, Isamu.”

It was none other than Haga Isamu. Although he’d initially misunderstood and thought I was after his girlfriend, he then realized that his relationship with Haruka had improved since interacting with me. Now we had risen to friend status and got along well even outside of matters concerning his relationship. His hidden otaku nature, a characteristic fitting for a protagonist, also meant we got along well.

After saying temporary goodbyes to my other male friends, the two of us walked down the hallway chatting.

“Hey Shotaro. Tomorrow starts summer vacation, right?”

“Yeah, that’s right. The beloved summer vacation everyone’s been waiting for.”

“So I was thinking of going to the pool the day after tomorrow. I got tickets from an acquaintance.”

He casually pulled out two tickets from his bag.

“Are you bragging about going with your girlfriend? I’m jealous, you real-life satisfied person!”

“Hey, don’t strangle me! Sure, I’m going with Haruka, but… the point is I have two extra tickets and was wondering if you wanted them.”

Alright, here it was. The first event of the summer vacation arc.

“Thanks. I was just wondering what to do with my time, so I’ll gladly take them.”

“That’s good. I’m glad.”

I received the two tickets. In the original route, Nanaka and her female friend would have received them.

But now, I had successfully positioned myself to be as close to Isamu as Nanaka was. Isamu probably felt safer with me, the Mob, who protected him, rather than with Nanaka who would try to seduce him.

“I think you have a sister, right, Shotaro? Why don’t you go with her?”

“I’d like to, but the day after tomorrow, my sister has plans. It’s okay for me to go with anyone, right?”

“Of course. They’re yours now.”

…Well, if that was the case, there was only that person I could go with.

“Thanks. And Isamu, I just remembered something I need to do, so you can head home first.”

On the third floor in an empty classroom, the person I was waiting for arrived in a room without air conditioning.

“Hey, Nanaka.”

“Don’t call me out in this heat. Although this feels… nostalgic.”

“Your tone has become more natural than it was at first, hasn’t it?”

“Hmph… There’s no benefit in trying to charm you. If anything, I only lose.”

“I guess so. We have opposite goals after all… That’s enough small talk. At this rate, we’ll both get heat stroke as soon as summer vacation starts… so here.”

“…? What’s this?”

I held out one pool ticket in front of Nanaka.

“Let’s go together.”

“Huh? Who would want to go with you—”

“Isamu gave me these. That means they’ll be going there the day after tomorrow too.”

“…!”

Her reaction changed dramatically. It seemed that despite my interference, Nanaka hadn’t completely given up.

Why did I invite Nanaka, who was essentially my enemy? Because at this pool event, Haruka would come into contact with Nanaka’s brother, Tatsu. It would be more convenient to have Nanaka there.

“I don’t know what you’re planning… but if there’s a chance, of course I’ll take it.”

Nanaka roughly grabbed the ticket with a “hmph”, and a difficult expression, without expressing any gratitude.

“Then it’s settled. We’ll meet at the location the day after tomorrow. Those tickets are for pairs, so we have to enter together.”

Chapter 18: The Mob Character And the Heroine In The Role Of The Homewrecker

On the day of the pool outing. 

Mina left home earlier, saying she was going to hang out with friends.

As for me, I was checking the route to the facility on my phone map and selecting clothes to wear.

“If my casual clothes look lame, that girl will definitely make fun of me.”

I could easily picture Nanaka taunting me with comments like “Those clothes are so tacky~”

Lately, I’d been paying more attention to fashion. Though truthfully, Mina, who had good taste, had been picking out my clothes.

Wearing the outfit Mina had selected for me, I swayed with the motion of the train.

“Let’s see, the landmark building…”

After getting off the train, I headed toward the facility following the map and soon arrived without issue.

I searched for Nanaka around the entrance of the facility. I spotted someone who looked like her right away, mainly because the surrounding customers, especially the men, were noticeably fidgeting.

“That girl is super cute. Is she a model?” 

“Hey, you should go talk to her.”

Short black hair. And—there was no doubt she was beautiful. Even for someone playing the role of a homewrecker, she had an overwhelming aura of beauty.

Since I was just looking from a distance, I quickly approached to talk to her.

“Good morning. So you actually showed up.”

“Good morning. Of course I did. This is all for Isamu-senpai, after all ♪.”

“You’re so persistent. You should really move on to a guy who doesn’t have a girlfriend.”

“Unfortunately, first loves are quite hard to forget.”

This was the kind of conversation we always had when we met. In other words, business as usual.

“Besides, you should have arrived before me. Haven’t you heard that you shouldn’t keep a lady waiting? At this rate, that cute girlfriend of yours will dump you by tomorrow, hehe.”

Wait, girlfriend? …Could it be this girl didn’t know Mina was my sister? Come to think of it, Mina and Nanaka had only met that one time at the amusement park…

“What’s wrong? Don’t tell me she already dumped you? How unfortunate~”

“Sorry to disappoint, but we’re still getting along well. Now stop chattering and let’s go.”

I ended up responding to her taunting tone this way. For now, I’d leave the girlfriend misunderstanding as it was, but I needed to keep Mina as uninvolved as possible in my plan to prevent the homewrecking.
